No  -  I don't do betas.  This was the full release.

No, I still keep FS2020 on my computer.  Why?  It's stable.  If changes made in some future update to FS24 booger things up, I can instantly revert to FS2020 (or XP12, or P3Dv5).  I also have a fair n

No. I intend on keeping 2020 indefinitely, just in case any of the updates to 2024 render it broken or degraded. That way I'll always have one that I can fall back on, if needed.

I left it installed, haven't used it for a year or so now, but wondered what happens in My Library which has references to 2020 install which is why haven't uninstalled 2020 yet.   One could always reinstall it if something went awry.

That doesn’t refer to your install of 2020. It shows that way even if you don’t have 2020 installed - it’s about whether that package is native 2024 or a 2020 package that is working in 2024.

Put another way, uninstalling 2020 will have zero impact on 2024. They do not share files in any way.

True, but don't uninstall 2020 community. Move it to 2024 community. And then use 2024 My library to activate a few of those assets and give them a quick test. If they work, then leave them activated in 2024. If they don't work, then just click on deactivate for those assets in 2024 My Library.

Edit: if you erase the contents in 2020 community, then you probably will forget all of what was there (cities, airports, planes). Wasted money. So instead, put them into your new 2024 community for a test drive sometime in the future.

Very true. I have totally forgotten that I spent $10-20-30 on various addons over the years. Small'ish amounts, so they dont' stick in the memory, but still it adds up.

This is also a reason why I'm starting to move my purchases to the MSFS Marketplace when feasible. As I get older, I don't want to deal with keeping track of all this (I'm 43 so not quite "old" yet). If MSFS Marketplace itself dies.. well, it was fun while it lasted.

Life would be easier if all my addons were Marketplace instead of Orbx, Contrails, AeroSoft, JustFlight, Simmarket. All of these have their own "app" to manage addons. And they all work differently. Different traps and confusing processes. It's easier to just remember the tricks for only one app: the marketplace.

I thought I had moved on, but I kept getting wasm crashes on the A350 in MSFS 2024, I still have 2020 installed so I just flew SYD-LAX as DL40, with no issues at all, unloading at gate 131 as we speak.

Delete the WASM files for the A350 and let it rebuild. That usually fixes it.

Thanks Toronto I will take it up once just to re-try ChasePlane which is installed in it.  Then will go ahead and uninstall 2020 I have zero need for it ever since installing 2024.

Cheers

Sadly I've cleared the wasm folders more than I've flown lately, I get annoyed and shut the whole sim down, when I should be reporting the crashes to the dev.

No haven't deleted MSFS2020 as it is on its own 2tb NVMe SSD with  MSFS on its own 2tb NVMe so abosolutely no need to.

Good idea. I think I will move MSFS 2020 to an external SSD.

This thought rhymes well with my life and my less-than-perfect memory spans…🙂…these days…

I recall well couple of decades of maintaining my SIM products and updates on multiple sites in my earlier SIMs, with distinct logins and passwords etc. Once, I even recall purchasing an a/c twice, from 2 different sites…🙂

It’s so convenient for me to filter and track my (owned) purchases and updates, all in one place.

Of course, the limitations and disadvantages of a singular Marketplace interface are also well-known, though being on Xbox, I don’t have a choice.

 Convenience is clearly not free…!

Very true…!

Even if you don’t have (or don’t wish) the MSFS2020 installed in your system, you may at least like to give a try to the a/c etc. (freeware and payware) that were inherited by MSFS2024, from MSFS2020, despite no official compatibility statement.

There are clear labels in the My Library list e.g., which one is “Unverified” by the publisher (but worth testing), or which one is deemed “Permanently Incompatible”. You can then enable and disable these items as you wish.

Without what came free to me from MSFS2020, I could not have flown this week e.g., the ATR or the 737 NG or the EDDF Gaya scenery, at all in MSFS2024, just to name a few…

I've left them both on as I've got lots of space. 14 tb on m.2 drives and 8 on SSD drives.
