February 11Feb 11 What's the consensus on the Carenado Cessna 404 that's available in MS2024? Any glaring issues? I'm looking for a surrogate for a C402 for Cape Air routes and this is as close as I'll get. Any info is appreciated.
February 11Feb 11 Its a carenado... it's "fine" for a default plane. Tim did a cape air paint for it too https://flightsim.to/file/89822/microsoft-cessna-404-titan-cape-air-n2748y If you use the TDS GTNxi there is also a mod for it to use those 750s https://tdssim.com/ProUpgrade/msfs2024mods Edited February 11Feb 11 by ryanbatc | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

However, I notice that I'd flown the C404 on a flight, back in 2025 once (in MSFS2024), and I had posted my account (see below). As I recall, it flew well, of course, subject to the caveats of it being a Carenado aircraft. I personally enjoyed flying it. If you could supplement (the default flight-deck, that I used) with the TDS GTNXi, as Ryan said, it might be worth it. Cheers...! Edited February 11Feb 11 by P_7878

But, again, I've not flown it recently, and might do it again. I'll try to test the C404 once more. Edited February 11Feb 11 by P_7878

February 11Feb 11 It’s ok, best “simulated” Cessna 172 I’ve flown is Airfoillabs in XP12 … yes, even better than A2A 172 in P3D. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan
February 11Feb 11 My two cents--Spend the bucks on the Flysimware C414. Same basic aircraft, but much better done. More interesting. Get it direct from Flysimware--not marketplace, as you will get updates sooner. Edited February 11Feb 11 by vp49p3 Forever indebted to the late Michael Greenblatt of FSGS.

I own that one, and if I were to select one, it would be the C414. I'm not sure though, how rigid you're in your requirement for a "surrogate" for the C402 ... Here is what I find: The Cessna 402 is fundamentally closer to the Cessna 404 Titan in terms of design lineage, operational role, and lack of pressurization. Cessna 404 (Closer): The 404 Titan is a direct outgrowth and "stretched" version of the Cessna 402B/C. They share similar unpressurized fuselage construction, similar nose sections, and both are designed primarily as utility/commuter/cargo haulers. Cessna 414 (More Distant): While the late-model 402C borrowed wing design and landing gear from the 414A/421 series, the 414 is a pressurized aircraft designed for cabin comfort (business travel), whereas the 402 and 404 are not. The C402 and C404 are commercial regional piston aircraft. They work in revenue service and carry up to (I think) 12 or 14 passengers. Not splitting hairs, but the C402/404 is a very different aircraft to the C414. Its $15, and you’ll get what you pay for… After a long, long time simming, I’ve realized the folly of buying addons because they LOOK the closest to whatever aircraft I’m seeking - on paper. It’s been far and away more satisfying, and ultimately less expensive, to stick with High Fidelity addons that are operationally similar. for eg, in this case I’d stick with my Black Square Duke. If this particular Airline/scenario was very important to me and I really wanted a Cessna twin piston, I’d likely buy the FSW Chancellor - on sale. So While the Carenado is only $15, I’ve never found any great satisfaction with any of their addons, even when the aircraft is personally important. E.g., I have their C337, in which I have a couple hours of IRL stick time, and I absolutely LOVE the funky IRL aircraft and its history. But I only flew the Carenado perhaps 3 times in MSFS. Unsatisfying… Life’s too short for cheap planes: Buy Once, Cry Once! (then you’ll be happy 😎) Edited February 11Feb 11 by UrgentSiesta

What makes me cry is when I get blindsided...doesn't usually happen anymore, but it has in the past. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
February 12Feb 12 Just to get the Cessna 400 series in semi correct order first came the C411 which had a geared engine - which then morphed into the C401 & C402 with various cosmetic & engineering variations & a non geared engine The C411 then got pressurised & morphed into the C421 - still with the geared engine Then they swapped out the geared engines & pressurised the C402 & called it the C414 - again with various cosmetic & engineering changes Around this time the also mucked around with the 300 series & produced the C340 - pressurised & non geared engine (a bit of a dog all round) Needing a real commuter airplane to see the Navaho off they lengthened the fuselage & brought back the geared engines & called it the C404 - which the Frogs took & bunged in a couple of PT6's & called it the C426 Cessna took the C404 & did a pressurised hull - bunged in a couple of Garrets & called it the C441 (best of the lot BTW) (with reservations about just how quiet the C421 was) flown all of the above in R/L with the exception of the C426 check out the history it's an interesting trip through design & marketing Rattso Cooler Master Cosmos 700M - MSI Godlike X (Devillike!!) - AMDD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (water cooled) - 128gb Corsair Vengeance 5200 D5 - ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Liquid OC GDDR7 32GB - EVGA 2000W P/S - Creative AE-7 - intel Optane 500gb - 3x 2tb M2 SSDs - 2x 2tb Samsung EVO SSDs - 1x Hybrid 2tb HDD - Brunner CLS-63E Joystick - Honeycombe Bravo quadrant - Brunner CLS-B rudder pedals - Samsung Odessey Ark 55" - G9 49" monitor

And, yes, above is the reason, sometimes I can tolerate the (deficiencies) of the Carenado versions. I like to fly them, albeit with imperfect renditions, while reading their history...alongside. It helps with visualization. Thanks.
