Hey, at least were not fighting over which simulator is better!

other than that, it seems pretty normal 😂

  • As I mentioned, for some, not knowing how it works is fine. And you are so wrong about the second statement: iFly737, Fenix, and even that A380 freeware emulate many of their systems very well, re

  • Funny you say that because I feel the same way...somewhat. And to be honest, I feel the same way about the actual plane. I'm a 77F capt and even in real life the plane feels a bit...boring. Hand flyin

Ok.  Few things.  😉 (And we're wildly diverging from what is relevant to the sim hobby, but this discussion is interesting and perhaps useful not only because other pilots are involved but becaus

if you don’t know how to get correct answers out of  AI, then you don’t know how to prompt it.

A bit of fun;

You might recall the thread discussing the air India 787 crash last year where someone is suggesting the aircraft crashed because it was vastly overweight because it was tankering fuel.

When I politely said they would not be tankering fuel on that route, ( you’re WAT limited ) based on my experience of actually flying 787s between India and Europe for a living,I was challenged by the individual with a barrage of AI and then basically accused of being an imposter as my explanation didn’t correlate with his AI.

I’m still not sure wether I’m extremely amused or extremely offended by that 🙂

You are the new generation...🙂...Some of us here learned programming in the university with Fortran punched cards.

Nobody even talked of any kind of AI then, though the ideas certainly existed.

Wow, how times have changed. As recently as 2023, I hadn't come across AI. Then copilot and so on were optional. Now even Google has AI overview. I'm sure a day will come when people will post on forums...

"Need help to uninstall copilot  (a system app)" haha 😄

Again, just like talking to kids.

Sounds easy on paper ...

Of course, the problem is, the older we become, the more resistant we become to such kind of change....🙂... yours truly included...despite knowing very well how to talk to kids...

Yeah - it’s not ready for prime time in that way.

people just don’t realize that it’s more of a super fast personal productivity assistant.

Shouldn’t be empowered to make life changing decisions for anyone.

Bemusement is the proper response 😁🤙

I mean, other than the AI aspect, I’ve been challenged like that my entire career!

We desperately need another flight report, Rob! Please get me out of this AI nightmare

Well, clambering up a human-only learning curve, after 4-5 failed flights (more to do with the MSFS's interaction with the Navigraph flight plan than to do with the PMDG FMS) I've now completed three successful landings EGKK to EBBR with the 777F - and another two with the 777-200ER RR!

Now I know better what I am doing, I'm planning to repeat the flight this evening with a view of catching some screen shots  👍

Chris: @RobJC is a dedicated (heavy) airliner type aviator.

Maybe, you wish him to diversify to GA, before making another flight report, not sure that would help you, though…?

You’re persistent, @AJZip2.

And you seem to be on a roll.

Congrats…!

The AI discussion has been interesting, but it seems to boil down to:

You can only get reliably useful information out of AI if you are well-versed on the subject and know how to "lead" the AI to produce the correct answers.

Which means in order to get correct answers from the AI, you need to already know the answers.  So, how is the AI being helpful?

Seems pretty circular.

Thanks.  If 'on a roll' means that I'm now down to only a 50% failure rate, then...yup, maybe I am on a roll

Anyway - since my last post:

- One failed flight

- One absolutely SPLENDID flight...and I even have a video to prove it!!!

Tomorrow, I will take one or two stills from the video but wow, learnt a lot over the last few days.

And now I'm starting to understand how it all works - and therefore starting to do the things correctly more often than not correctly - I'm beginning to like this aircraft, and PMDG's rendition of it, a LOT 👍

I'm glad for you, @AJZip2.

In the last 5 years of MSFS, if I were to single out two (higher fidelity) jetliners that have performed flawlessly in my Xbox system, it would be the PMDG 737 NG and the 777.

Frankly, I do not recall a single issue with either a/c ever...a perfect example of design, testing and validation for the Xbox platform...credit goes to PMDG for sure.

Cheers...!

Been digging into P2ATC and GSX Pro. Just did a shakedown flight with the Fenix today and sorting out a few things!

Learning new things every day buddy.
