Does your sim look like this?

No.

I often have moments where I'm just blown away by how good the sim looks. Approaches in IMC conditions with low cloud and breaking out just above minimums are particularly impressive.

Frequently I sit at the gate after a flight and just pan around, watching the BATC traffic land and taxi around the airport to their gates.

It isn't faultless of course but it is just amazing to me how far we have come from FSX (and even P3D) 10 years ago.

It looks great for a Hollywood film, but when it comes to scenes from a real-life simulation, my eyes would never see that in the real world.

Lighting in 2024 is great and far surpasses 2020, overall 2024 is better for my visual needs in VR but as ever everyone sees things differently.

However texture sharpness was much better in 2020 until Asobo did their usual and downgraded at the sake of performance, we've also still not got back the 512x512 textures they somehow broke last year...so overall even though 2024 is better it should be a lot better than it currently is.

That ship has sailed and we should make peace with it never being the same again.

Make peace with constant downgrades? if we do that we'll be back to FS9 Graphics by 2029 😅

Seriously though Asobo did something, maybe unintentionally, but until it gets back to where it was they are still fully accountable so therefore deserve to be reminded at every given opportunity. Someone at FSExpo needs to ask them these questions and not kiss their backsides like we see at every convention, but alas no one ever does.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

That’s true – I hadn’t used the simulator for quite a few weeks. I’ve done two flights of about three hours each with A2A Comanche, and the drop in quality is quite noticeable. I’ve had to turn the texture detail up from high to ultra, and it doesn’t look as good as it used to.

Look at the images above. Obviously not! There's an atmosphere present in the 2024 images that is missing in the 2020 image. It's part of 2024's new lighting engine.

2020 has some decent art assets but it tends to look like a backdrop with weather art assets just placed on top. 2024 is more homogenous and 'baked' together.

The only people who think 2020 looks better are 2020 users who haven't used 2024. ☺️
