Paying attention to the World Cup?

I don't know what Jude Bellingham was grumbling about in his interview. Thomas Tuchel was absolutely right to be critical of that performance. It was far too "slow and safe", and we nearly paid the price for it. They were lucky last night. They cannot afford that same luxury again.

Several hundreds of millions around the world. It’s the world’s most popular sport. Looks like you’ll be streaming Netflix for the next five weeks.

Well, it didn't work at all: US 1-4 Belgium. The best reply from an UEFA team 😎

That Embolo "dive" in the Argentina-Switzerland game cost them any chance of winning the match. I hope he learns his lesson.

England just scored in "Extra Time"....... now 2-1.

That's how it ended!

I thought, that's it then, I'm off to bed, after Norway scored the second. Woke up this morning to find it was disallowed and England won. 😁

I find it both very concerning and am somewhat dismayed that Global Football (Soccer to 'Muricans) has become in many respects a 'full contact' Sport, replete with full on body checking, all manner of grabbing, pulling, throwing elbows and raking the flanks of opposing players with their metal tipped cleats.

If you're a North American and slightly unfamiliar with how football has developed over the decades, here's a look back in time to half a century ago......😎

....btw, not sure what they are but football boots don't have 'metal tipped cleats'....

He means studs. Which are still worn on soft ground.

One of them was running in high temperatures and high humidity. The other was sat or stood. It’s very easy to criticise when you’re not playing in such difficult conditions. Bellingham was right in my opinion.

Were you really expecting Premier League style football in such conditions? Why hasn’t the Miami stadium got a covered roof with aircond?

I guess cheap shots and 'enforcing' isn't limited to just Ice Hockey anymore... 🤨☹️

It's always been like this. No metal cleats however.

Heheh. 😀

Back in the early 80's I attended soccer camp one fine summer. Only it was circa 95 degrees every day + southeast U.S. humidity, and here's the thing -- they only allowed us one (1) water break. So I figure that's what's wrong with me, I had too much heatstroke as a 9 year old. ha ha

My late father had it far worse though. Back in the 1950's, getting a water break was considered unmanly. He said one time the coach allowed them to run through a water sprinkler on an adjacent field. One time. He said guys would quit in August, not because they weren't good enough, but because they were not allowed to get a drink and couldn't take the heat & humidity. Glad we have evolved as a society!

To your point, yes they should do that in Miami. Hotlanta too. Memphis. Nashville. New Orleans. Houston. Yes.

Ah, so the conditions in Atlanta on Wednesday could be almost as bad?

Astonishing really that they can air condition such a huge stadium.

Agreed. I’m not a fan of WCs being played in hot countries. It’s frustrating that England has only hosted it once, sixty years ago. We have a reasonable climate, decent infrastructure and excellent stadiums. What’s not to like?

Probably because we don’t offer big enough bribes to the FIFA committee. 🤨
