My 6 year old PC meets the minimum specs for MSFS2024 but not quite the recommended specs.

I have an i7 9700K not i7 10700 which has twice the number of threads and marginally faster (0.2Ghz) at 3.8Ghz

I have an RTX2060 OC not an RTX2080 which has 2GB more Vram.

I have 16Gb RAM not 32Gb.

Will I notice a problem? With my current settings I get around 40 fps.

6GB VRAM is nowhere near enough for MSFS 2024. That 8GB on an RTX 2080 is the bare minimum required to run it, but you would still have to compromise on a lot of the settings. I also think that 16GB RAM will cause you problems with stutters in relatively dense scenery areas.

Thanks Christopher. That sort of puts the lid on considering MSFS2024 (I have 2020) as an RTX2080 currently sells at around $A400 (an RTX4070 starts at $A1000). Even the RTX2080 would be a stretch for me as I am retired.

How would an RTX3050 8G OC 1807 Mhz go? Still they are over $A400.

I could get 16GB RAM for around $A100 so that's no problem.

Still including the cost for 2024 I'm up for $A600.

The RTX 3050 is less powerful than the RTX 2060. The only feature in its favour is the 8GB VRAM. I appreciate that you are looking to get something that will at least run MSFS 2024, but my rule of thumb with Nvidia cards over the years (and it still applies today) is that the "60" range is the minimum for serious gamers/simmers.

EDIT: Seriously, if I had a spare graphics card that was more powerful than your existing RTX 2060, then I would have given it to you free of charge. That is what happened for me with the 12GB RTX 4070 Super that I have in my new PC. I was only asked to pay the shipping charge, so I am eternally grateful to the AVSIM member who offered it to me........

As Christopher said, the issue with that Nvidia '60' card (the last two digits are perhaps the most important for Nvidia cards) is the small VRAM. I dare say it would work, but you'd need texture resolution set to 'Medium' or for more smoothness, potentially even 'low'.

When upgrading to a new Nvidia graphics card, I'd suggest trying to get a '80' card (RTX 2080, 3080, etc) or at the least a 2070, 3070, etc. I used a RTX 3070 for my first year with MSFS2024 and it ran just fine (but for smoothness, I needed texture resolution set to 'medium'). My RTX 3080 gives similar performance to what the 3070 did, but I can comfortable run with texture resolution set to 'high'.

In the meantime get your arms around the excellent "autoFPS" app that is so mentioned here on Avsim. The developer has the longest running topic in Avsim history and is present and very supportive. His app may provide some interim benefit for you. Sad to see that you are too budget restricted for a new system. The topic is in this MSFS forum and the most recent post by the developer was less than 5 hours ago.

I haven’t flown it in a long time, but I do know you should always check their tablet to see about hardware bindings. Easy to get conflicts with standard bindings.

I'm really happy with the 5060ti 16gb. forgot the price but around $400.

Maybe I will start with increasing DDR4 3200 ram to 32Gb, purchasing 2024 while it is on special, see how it goes and then look to upgrade my RTX2060.

I was unaware of autoFPS and did a search for it here and found nothing.

It is really really nice what it does.

If I were in your shoes yes I would look for a used card. Try to go for 16 gb vram but if you can't then 12.
If I had a spare card I would send it to you.

I booted up in bios 'mode' and it displays ram speed as 3200 BUT it is greyed out, not changable

Would that indicate that it just detects that 3200 ram is installed OR that the ram speed has been overclocked?

I run a 360TI, with 32 gigs of RAM - by all accounts a medium to medium/low system.
I have everything set to medium and high, with TLOD and OLOD at 100.
Cockpit gauge refresh rate at high.
Texture resolution and offline terrain precaching are two of the biggest performance killers - set both to medium.
I have my framerates capped at 30 fps and use AeroTune to balance the system.
Various programs are running outside my sim.

I get - with few exceptions - smooth performance and a steady framerate.

Fly the plane and don't worry about things that only pixel peepers care about.

CEX Australia have RTX 3060Ti 8GB cards listed online at A$370-400, and you get a 5 year warranty with that. I assume that Ricardo41 is running MSFS 2024 @ 1920x1080 resolution.

Sounds ok. Thanks for the heads up on CEX Australia. The vram (8gb) is ok but concerned about only being a 3060. I will consider.

Yes I know. I found that 6 years ago with fs2020. At the time some people didn't think my PC was fast enough for good performance but I get around 50fps with medium to high setting which I find ok. Yes I know that 2024 is more resource hungry but I will start with 2024 32GB DDR4 3200 ram and then think about a better video card.
