Undecided and Wondering

Hello,

I'm wondering and undecided in getting a trijet but which one will be best. Can someone give me any suggestion??

First I was looking foward to the Tristar L-1011 which is my favorite by far. But unfortunately the model I wanted wasn't made and don't know if it will be ever made which is the L-1011-1. So,

I'm looking at 2 other possible one which is the MD-11 by TFDI or the B-727-100 by FSS, even thou I prefer the -200 without Hushkit and that one wasn't made either. The other one I'm looking at

is the Aerodynamics DC-10 which I haven't heard much lately. This one I will get once it is done, but don't know.

Can someone please give me a suggestion, thanx I appreciated.

My opinion:-

TFDI MD-11 - by far the best of the addons you mention. A stunning immersive package. Systems are the older generation of 'modern' (90s).

Inibuilds Tristar - I don't own it. Some consider it study level, others that it is a lighter version of that, common with aircraft from Inibuilds. I know that it's not in the same league as the TFDi MD-11, from plenty of vids and previews I've seen.

FSS 727 - I bought the 727-200 cargo and pax versions, and the 'Super 27' enhancement mod. I'll cover that last mod first - it's absolutely atrocious and has a score of 2.7 on the Marketplace. Very little works, the new autopilot is hugely glitchy. I would rate the original FSS 727-200as "okay". I had some enjoyable flights in it but it has lots of aspects that annoy or disappoint me, and it is nowhere near the level of fidelity of the TFDi MD-11.

My summary :-

The TFDi MD-11 is the best by far and it's unlikely you'd regret investing in it.

Haven't got it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about the MD-11 for MSFS2024

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

A long time ago I was really hung up on wanting to fly an AH-64 Apache, for all the usual reasons.

But none was available, and I wasn’t interested in the alternative (the Kamov Ka-50 Black Shark). Time passed, but still no Apache AND none on the horizon. Then a holiday sale popped up and the deal was so good I decided to take a chance on the Black Shark…

Utterly amazing experience, and so satisfying that I stopped caring about the lack of an available Apache.

In the end, I wasted a few years waiting for an Apache when what I actually wanted was a great Attack Helicopter. And yeah, I still kick myself about it…🤣

Flight sim is always a compromise and thus you should always be willing to get whatever is closest to what you want (assuming good quality, etc).

Which is a REALLY long way of saying you should probably get the L1011 and not worry about the relatively minor difference. 🤙

Barring that, the next closest thing is the MD-11, which had a rough reputation at launch, but seems to have been nicely polished over the years.

+1 for TFDI MD11.

I recently purchased it and have been very happy learning its systems. Its also very frame rate friendly on my pc and its now my primary for my nightly cargo ops. (Was looking for a touch more engagement with the systems than the very modern and more automated PMDG 777 which is my secondary selection for cargo ops right now.

I would say if you want PMDG level simulations and something that is still in the screen age while giving you a little more work to do then i think the TFDI MD11 fits in very nicely.

+1 MD11

Can’t go wrong with either the MD-11 or the L1011.

Very different beasts, both of them.

I have both the MD11 and the L1011. They are obviously world apart in terms of technology and it really depends on whether you prefer the old steam gauge setup or the more modern glass cockpit.

Personally , I have a particular attraction to the steam gauges which are more demanding, especially if you intend to fill the engineer seat as well doing the job of three... Having said that, I find myself flying the MD11 quite often too, this is a superb rendition of the original aircraft, to conclude I would be quite hesitant to put one before the other, simply because they are so different and both are equally well done.

I'm a bit in the same boat with quite some winctrl bus hardware in use. Therefore coming myself from heavy Fenix usage I jumped on the A340 instantly as it matches into my hardware scheme (in contrast to the 350/380 which for me personally are too modern cockpit wise). As others mentioned it has grown into a very stable and performing platform and especially I solely fly the older EIS1 version as the cockpit colors and the a bit older touch are just beautifully captured. It may not be as deep on systems as the Fenix but it brings some other nice touch into the daily ops with checking wear and tear on some components like checking oil, tires etc.

And as also mentioned above, if you want a slightly different beast I would take a closer look on the MD11 (and the Tristar). I love the MD11 especially in the freighter ops and its bit different but to be honest very satisfying beast to master. The Tristar def nice if you want to go a step more classic into INS era but atm its already collecting dust in my hangar but more out of not having enough time to fly them all.

Cheers T.

I don't know about the L1101 nor do I know anyone who owns it. Looks pretty solid though.

Yes the MD11 is amazing, but also very automated. Not sure that is what you are looking for.

the B-727-100 by FSS is an amazing aircraft, especially if you do everything by hand.

Simpler if you automate the navigator section.

I love that plane.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

I own the 727-200 and the L-1011.

Of the two, the 727 is by far my favorite.

Very smooth FPS, nice smoke out the back, etc.

Be sure to get the nice liveries people have posted for the 727 as the stock ones are “meh”.

L-1011 seems fine, but I rarely fly it vs the 727.
