October 27Oct 27 Ugh. Sorry, just venting at this point. This morning a wing on my 182 was clipped slightly by another passing GA during taxi. Got a phone call about it and spent the better part of the day dealing with it. NOT how I expected to spend the next few weeks instead of enjoying the last few weeks of flying before winter hits. To all pilots who get behind controls. It’s not a car! Watch your taxi! Ugh. I am on the way home now. Gonna spend some time in XP and dissociate from real life right now.
October 27Oct 27 Author Sorry, I just realized this is off-topic. Please either move my post to Real Aviation category or delete at your discretion. Wasn’t thinking straight. Oof.
October 27Oct 27 Hi Jeremy and everyone.I am not sure where you live but you may be able to rent somewhere to stay sharp? You may also try to fly with a friend that has a similar acft. The 172 are a little less demanding, but keep going over your ACCGUMPPS (Accessories, Carb heat, Cowl flaps, Gas, Undercarriage, Mixture, Prop, Pump, Seat belts), during important phases of flight. Exclude what you do not need, but this can help in most of the complex acft.I assume it was a fixed gear? If true you can use some of the sims to help along, but I know there are not many good models out there. I had to build a 182 RG for the FSX to keep my scan, procedures.. going. I fly multiple acft and that makes it a little more difficult.I've had a fuel truck hit my acft, the tail section, while I was in it and a couple of other problems while I was on the ground, lucky I never had one hit me in flight.I know the feeling, it takes a lot of effort, planning, money to get a plane, but trust me, things can be much worse as you get older, not necessarily acft related.Keep enjoying what you have and shift some of the things to the sims, other hobbies, family until it gets repaired...
October 27Oct 27 Author Thank you. It’s a bit difficult to stay positive right now because it will still cost a lot (no matter the circumstances). My way out is simulation until my Dolly (her name) gets going again. It’s still disheartening (This will be a thing for a while now; even if Iwasn’t there). This was literally my life’s work investment. It hurts.
October 27Oct 27 Really sorry to ear about that @BostonJeremy77 :-//I hope you find a way to get it back in good shape. Learning to fly gliders since 1980AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB DDR4, RTX 3060Ti (8GB), GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite AX V2 mobo, 1TB + 500GB nvme m.2 disks

It sounds like the other pilot hit you while you were parked, which is even more frustrating I'd imagine. I dont fly IRL, but I'm curious what insurance would do for you here, obviously the other party is at fault, but is this the sort of thing that just gets handled out of pocket? How bad was the damage? MSI Aegis R | Intel i7-14700F | NVIDIA RTX 4060 | 1TB NVMe | 32GB RAM | Windows 11
October 28Oct 28 I recently sold my aircraft after 20 years of ownership.Costs have become out of hand - maintenance, labour, fuel, waiting time for parts, general difficulty in getting work done in a timely fashion, it goes on.Then the stress of things like that happening.I'm a new person. You are right about flight sim being an escape from reality. Sometimes reality is worth escaping from, at least for a little while. I've not idea what insurance costs for planes however, but I assume its not cheap! MSI Aegis R | Intel i7-14700F | NVIDIA RTX 4060 | 1TB NVMe | 32GB RAM | Windows 11

How bad was the damage? No, I wasn't in the aircraft - I was at home when that happened. I am dealing with all of this right now and it's complicated, but it looks like the other person is solid and is accepting responsibility on this, so hopefully this won't be as painful... Having the damage inspected tomorrow and going from there. It shouldn't be too terrible, visible damage is minimal, but there are structural things to be considered too. Thanks for the kind words, everyone!
