My experience of smoothness and my settings with 4k are much the same. Although I believe I'm getting much improved visual quality @ 60hz without the micro stutters, despite that I am only in the 27 to 40 fps range. 78" Samsung UHD 4k Curved HU9000 - sitting 44 - 48" to screen Monster hdmi 2.0 3840 x 2160 @ 60hz Color ycbcr444 , ODR Limited Picture set to standard and motion plus -off Win 10 TrackIR 2 x GTX 970's SLI i7 6700k @ 4.8 DDR4 16GB HT- off Really thrilled. P3Dv3 and 4K ROCKS !! Cheers

I believe all Samsung Curved UHD 4K tv's support 60hz through high speed HDMI 2.0 My 78" when I got it a year a ago, didn't support 60hz, but a firmware update a few months later seemed to fix that.

Well after trying both 28" monitors the 4K is much better. An obvious and predictable conclusion. What was surprising is the little difference in fps performance between the two. Same settings basically, Rob's 4k. As well later I felt that the 1080p required 8xsgss to give me satisfactory visuals. My most significant observation or conclusion however was how GREAT !! , P3Dv3 runs and looks on my Samsung 4K Curved television @ 60hz. Anyone wondering or contemplating if these types of high end 4k televisions work well, I really believe they do with P3Dv3! Performance is the same whether 28" or 78" . Colors appear to be just as good if not better and the 4k resolutions and larger screens really add to the immersion. I'll keep the 28" 4k as my second option when the big screen is busy. Cheers Steve

I have picked up 2 new monitors to try and find 1 that best solves my problem, (stated earlier) ASUS VN289H 28" 1920 x 1080 (30hz,60hz and 75hz). Found this for an amazing price $250 CAN. The idea here is to go low rez a complete departure from 4K Met a guy the other day who really new all the monitors and he suggested this for FS. Features: Eye-care function with flicker free and blacker blacks. ASUS PB287Q 28" 4K 1ms, 30-60hz $649.00 CAN Has the same Eye care features. The other reason other than 4k would be as a second monitor and moving windows between monitors. I'll test both with my new hardware build and post my impressions. 6700K @4.8 16GB DDR4 2 x GTX 970 SLI Cheers Steve

I've found ultra-wide monitors just couldn't give me that feeling of being in the cockpit. I much prefer the bigger is better concept and the highest resolution your pc and gpu can deliver. Add TrackIR and the immersion is the best i've seen. A cockpit setup dominated by hardware and monitors used to display scenery (as if out the window) is a different experience entirely. Cheers

For years I've always used wide view. I guess it just seemed logical. However, after moving to 4k I started paying closer attention to other FS's published display settings. It seems most have it off. I too have come to believe that this gives me a more realistic perspective and being a bit cramped.

This is my dilemma ! I think my livingroom Samsung 78" 4K Curved is amazing with P3Dv3. Drag in a very comfortable Ikea poäng chair and Ottoman, TrackIR, xbox360 wireless controller and I'm in heaven. Unfortunately I have to share the TV. :-( I never considered I'd have to talk the wife into all day shopping sprees and take the night shift, drinking Redbulls to stay awake. I am now considering a 27" IPS monitor on the side as a bridge between shifts. Not sure if I should go with a 1080p and save some money, or go 4k ??? I think 4K is certainly necessary with large screens but not sure about monitors of 27" size. Any suggestions ? Cheers

Hi Rob I would like to thank you for posting your videos to your youtube channel as I am a subscriber and never miss a video. They're very useful as I too am running in 4k and have little time to spend optimizing p3dv3. I have been following along with your tests and with settings basically the same. I turned off HT and experienced an increase of about 5-7 fps in the Duke. I haven't yet tested VAS. 6700k @ 4.8 2 x GTX 970 SLI G.Skill 16 gb Samsung 78" Curved UHD I'm still doing more testing with both 30hz and 60hz and frames set to unlimited. So far 60hz looks a little better and i'm not sure i'm experiencing stutters. Cheers Steve

Just this week I could finally justify a rebuild of my P3D computer. My 2600k was such a great overclocker that for the last few years any upgrade wasn't worth the price. I run 2 x 970's in SLI in 4K. The Skylake 6700k combined with the z170 motherboards showed a significant boost in benchmarks with SLI. I still can't comment on any personal experince as I am yet to overclock and install addons to P3D 2.5 and 3.0 I'm excited to see what this new build and P3Dv3 will bring. Cheers Steve

Nice build !!! :-) Still waiting for the release of the i7 6700K here in Canada. Estimated to be around Oct 2-4 :-( I have already purchased my other new parts due to signs of early shortages. Bought a new Refine S case, Corsair H110i GT water cooler, Noctua CPU Fans , ASUS Republic Of Gamers VIII Hero mobo, 2 X 8gb GSkill Ripjaw V 3000mhz ddr4 memory, to go with my 2 x EVGA 970 GTX SC graphics cards. Happy to see your OC has been successful. Cheers Steve

There's much more to Win8.1 and 10 than a tiles and touch interface. I never boot to metro tiles or use apps, find them to be horrible. The only issue I had with Win10 was with the OPUS addon. I might have been able to find a work around with their help but decided to go back to 8.1 as 10 is still a moving target. Soon ! :-)

How can I change the fps display, text size and color ? I have noticed in Rob Ainscough's videos that he has it displayed in a way that I would like. Also a single counter would be better for me. I thought maybe changing AverageFrameRate=1,1 would do it but it doesn't. A solution that's easy for my ageing eyes would be nice. :-) Cheers Steve

There's a difference on my machine. P3Dv2.5, FSX-SE, and most if not all other games and sims I use. Either way, dispite the Nvidia fiasco, the card still fits the budget and two is better than one. I think there are some great deals on the 970. I'm very happy with my graphics card setup. Cheers Steve

FPS is all over the place depending what and where but consistantly smoother with SLI. If I had a greater budget I would have gone with 2 980's or the new Titans Newer games are really amazing as well. Games like GTA V are I think optimized for SLI. Cheers

Hi Chris I think it's worth it ! I am running two - EVGA GTX 970's in SLI I chose the 970's for their good performance and great value, allowing me to try SLI within my budget. I do get better performance, smooth and decent FPS, at 4k 3840 x 2160 @ 60hz. P3Dv2.5 looks amazing on a 78" Samsung curved UHD TV. I can't get enough. Cheers Steve

What to invest in FSX-SE vs Prepar3d dilemma
Steve Cannell replied to arnobg's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
All new addon purchases I make are for P3D only. I have deleted FSX and now use FSX-SE for all flights using non p3d compatible addons. However I do go through an anxiety filled ritual every time I make a purchase, hoping that I'm making the correct decision. :-) Cheers Steve
