    Sad Day

    My sincerest condolences, Noel.
  2. I have the joystick and and the throttle with flaps and spoiler. I'll try to answer your questions. I have only P3D v5 installed on my computer. They work very well. I use mine only for the FSLabs A319/A320/A321 aircraft, but I'm sure that they could be used for any aircraft, small or large. If you have the payware FSUIPC, yes, you should easily be able to assign 2 engines per throttle. Yes, the detents on the throttle quadrant can be disabled. I haven't done so, though, as I use the this throttle and joystick exclusively for the Airbus aircraft. Yes, there is a slider on the joystick. It could be used for the throttle, but again, if you have the payware FSUIPC, you could assign that axis to anything (e.g., spoilers).
  3. Air-source.us went down yesterday (in the middle of one of my flights, actually) with a "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable" notification and hasn't been back up since. The VA has been around for more than a decade. Does anyone know what's up?
  4. I was wondering about that. I know that hand signals are used, so I thought it strange when the pilot announced that there were problems with the headset, causing a further delay. Why not just use hand signals, then? Anyway, thanks for the detailed response. Incredibly interesting, valuable info.
  5. Thanks, Chock. Really interesting. This past Sunday, I flew on Air Canada from St. John's, NL (CYYT) to Toronto (CYYZ) on an Airbus A220, and then on a 787-8 from CYYZ to my hometown, Vancouver (CYVR). Our connection in Toronto was delayed three hours because apparently there is a shortage of ground crews to load the planes, and once a crew was located, they had difficulty loading the plane with a cargo pod (or whatever they're called). Also, the pilot told us passengers that there was also a delay because the headset wasn't working (again, apparently). So ... a question: delays at major Canadian airports such as CYVR and CYYZ have been in the news lately, probably due to the difficulty in rehiring ground crew, who may have left the field during COVID to do other things. Are you seeing that in England as well?
  6. I just reinstalled this, and it looks pretty good, all things considered. I haven't found any P3D-specific repaints, but there are lots for FSX. Does anyone know if the FSX repaints work in P3D v5?
  7. Nice to hear about the 777-300ER. My university is paying for my professional development opportunity (the two conferences I'm attending), so unfortunately, I won't be able to upgrade. I've flown many times on Q400s, e.g., on Horizon down to KSEA and KPDX and back. I'm not sure where I'm sitting, but I'll keep that in mind ... although it seems to me that it doesn't necessarily matter where you sit in the Q400: it's loud no matter what. 🙂
  8. Thanks. Good to hear. As for the east coast, I'm originally from New Brunswick, so this is a homecoming of sorts. 🙂 Concerning flights (all on Air Canada), I'll be taking three aircraft I've never been on before: two 777s and an A220: YVR-YUL - 777-300ER YUL-YHZ - A220 YHZ-YYT - Dash 8-400 YYT-YYZ - A220 YYZ-YVR - 777-200LR
  9. I'm going to two face-to-face conferences (one in Halifax, the other in St. John's, NFLD) in June--the first time I will have travelled on a plane since just before the pandemic started. I'm excited to travel again, but ... I don't know what to expect.
  10. Sounds wonderful, especially after two years of hunkering down. Bon voyage!
  11. "Death by Ru Ru!" A classic ...
  12. I just traded in my Model 3 for a Volvo C40. If you've ever seen a Volvo XC40 (ICE or BEV), it looks very similar, the exception being that the C40 has more of a swept-back look to it. It doesn't look nerdy at all.
  13. Still a lot of myths about EVs out there, including range anxiety and stressing the power grid. In British Columbia, the provincial power utility, BC Hydro, has been planning for EVs for some time. Last year, BC Hydro posted a webpage called "9 Myths Busted, from Range Anxiety to Higher Costs." Have look for more info: https://www.bchydro.com/news/conservation/2021/ev-myths-busted.html. One more myth busted, source of electricity: Some critics of EVs state that the majority of electricity is generated from coal-powered plants (and therefore the carbon footprint of EVs is much worse than people might think), but in my province, about 91% of electricity comes from hydroelectric sources (see the territorial information from the Canada Energy Regulator, a federal government body, here: https://www.cer-rec.gc.ca/en/data-analysis/energy-markets/provincial-territorial-energy-profiles/provincial-territorial-energy-profiles-british-columbia.html).
  14. I owned an Long Range All Wheel Drive Tesla Model 3 for three years, and I just traded it in for a Volvo C40 Recharge. Of course, both vehicles are BEVs--battery electric vehicles. Battery electric vehicles can't be towed in a traditional manner (hook-up in front or back only, no dolly under front or rear tires), but can be towed either with a dolly or on a flat-bed truck. As for the battery, most manufacturers guarantee the batteries for 8 years or 160,000 kms, whichever comes first, of course. As for how long BEV batteries might last, check out this page: https://www.evconnect.com/blog/how-long-does-an-electric-car-battery-last. One more thing: a BEV battery actually comprises a number of cells. For example, the Tesla Model 3 has about 3000 cells. If any fail, they can be replaced, so it would be unlikely that the entire battery wouldn't hold a charge--unless there was some catastrophic failure of all of the cells at the same time.
  15. Thank you, Aaron, for the detailed explanation. I appreciate it. I'm pretty happy with running the 717 with the legacy renderer, but it's really great to know what's missing.
  16. Sorry, but ... no. The legacy renderer has rain effects. I've just started P3D and ASP3D. It's raining like crazy right now here at CYVR (we're experiencing another atmospheric river) and my 717 has rain effects and window fogging. What other effects might I be missing out on? I ask only because I'm curious: as I mentioned, I was never able to use the 717 without the legacy renderer.
  17. I've only been able to use the 717 with this workaround, so I haven't experienced otherwise. What features does it take away?
  18. Directions on how to fix this issue can be found in the TFDI Knowledgebase here: https://support.tfdidesign.com/support/solutions/articles/62000211537-dxgi-device-removed-or-dxgi-device-hung-errors-on-p3dv5
  19. I have both and enjoy them. I’m flying a lot of the iFly 737 recently, though, and I bought the expansion. I find the sounds to be somewhat better in the iFly, and the cockpit to me just seems sharper. One major difference between the two is that the PMDG 737 has rain effects on the windshield, whereas the iFly doesn’t model any rain. That’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it is for some people.
  20. I've found such issues before, and I've had to go through the P3D settings all of the joysticks, yokes, throttles etc. etc. to ensure there are no conflicts. I'm not at my home computer right now (lunch break at work), so I can't quite remember what the P3D menu is called ... something like "joystick assignments" or "controller assignments." Anyway, to lessen the likelihood of this issue recurring, I ended up going through all peripherals, removing assignments that were unnecessary, and then saving my configuration. Every now and then, things go wonky, so I just go back into that menu and re-load my config file. So ... I suggest doing this to see if there are any conflicts there.
  21. Gotta say it ... it's an instant buy for me.
  22. CYYC and CYYJ will be instant buys for me (P3D, that is).
  23. ^^^This ^^^ The post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy in a nutshell. Basically ... "A happened before B, therefore A caused B."
