  1. I second the request for a WestJet livery. I bought the P3Dv5 version of the 747NG and like it a lot--even though I've been using the PMDG 737NG since forever.
  2. As a Canadian, I always find it strange that patients in the USA receive itemized bills for their medical care, especially after a stay in hospital. Because of our universal healthcare, Canadians don’t get bills from hospitals or doctors (similar to the situation in other countries with universal healthcare) … and don’t even really know how much procedures cost. What we do know the cost of is parking at the hospital—it can be quite expensive on a hourly/daily basis, especially when visiting family members who have extended stays. One more thing: I know that it’s not free. I’m happy to pay higher taxes if it means that no one should worry about going bankrupt to pay for necessary medical procedures.
  3. True. In BC, where I live, the government funds around 50-ish percent (not sure of the exact percentage, so don't quote me on this number) of a domestic student's tuition, with the rest being made up in student tuition and other income to the post-secondary institution. Scholarships are available, of course, but whether students actually apply for them is another story, sadly. By the way, for an interesting comparison of post-secondary education in Canada and the USA, see here for similarities and here for differences.
  4. I’m Canadian, so I can’t comment on tuition in higher education in the USA. I’ve been a university administrator for more than eight years (Associate Dean) after teaching in post-secondary for a long time, so I do have some knowledge of higher education in my province (BC), Canada, and North America in general. I did my undergrad degree right out of high school in the late 1970s, my masters in the 1990s, and my doctorate between 2013 and 2018, and to my knowledge, post secondary has never been free in Canada. Education in general is a provincial matter in this country, so there is a good deal of variation among the provinces and territories when it comes to grants and other supports for students: we don’t have Pell grants, for example, and we don’t have Titles as you do in the States. If anyone has any questions about how post-secondary works in BC (specifically) and Canada (in general), I’d be happy to try to answer.
  5. I've installed all of them. When I first started with AIG, I installed quite a few at one time (can't remember how many ... 10? 30?), and I did that over a few days. Even now, I run AIG every now and then to check on what's new and install whatever airlines and private jets have been uploaded recently. I fly all over the world, and it's really interesting to see all the different liveries--many of which I don't ever see where I live (Greater Vancouver, so CYVR). Like @Ray Proudfoot, I'm never alone at airports, and I agree that it's a great addition to P3D.
  6. I do so by telling her that I'm going to take real-world flying lessons and that it's going cost a lot more than just one aircraft at X dollars. Works. Every. Time. 🙂
  7. I agree. Doesn't matter which sim (P3D, XP, MSFS) ... I just don't understand why interiors are included. It seems like a lot of programming/design for little return--other than bragging rights. I have never looked inside in any of them, and I don't care to in the future, either. My main focus is flying aircraft, not sightseeing around the interior of buildings.
  8. Have you considered using ChasePlane or EZDok for programming views? I use ChasePlane and have set up a number of views both in cockpit and outside.
  9. I have a dedicated PC in my unfinished basement only for flight simming—mostly P3D v5, but also DCS (infrequently), and perhaps Elite Dangerous (very infrequently). Oh, and I also use my set-up for train simming as well. Anyway, I have a very old, wide and deep wooden desk, on which I keep the PC and other things … as you’ll see below. For flight simming, I have a PFC Cirrus Saab yoke, which sits on top of the desk, and a curved 27” monitor sits on top of the yoke. The weight of the monitor keeps the yoke apparatus (which itself is already pretty heavy) in place quite nicely. On top of the monitor is my TrackIR. In addition, I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS, with the throttle mounted on an old PC case to my left and the joystick on another old PC case to my right. I also have a Thrustmaster TCA sidestick, also mounted on an old PC case to my right as well. I use the yoke for aircraft with yokes, and the sidestick for FSLabs A319/A320/A321. I use the Thrustmaster HOTAS joystick for other aircraft with sticks. Of course, I can easily swap in and out between TCA sidestick and the HOTAS joystick. By the way, to keep the HOTAS and TCA sidestick in place, I used heavy-duty double-sided tape to affix each peripheral to the top of the PC cases I’ve used. It works perfectly. Surprising well, actually. I have another monitor to the right of the yoke (as I mentioned, the desk is wide), and it’s also connected to the simming PC. I can use that monitor for displaying various programs that I use while simming, such as Aivlasoft EFB and Navigraph Charts, etc. But wait … there’s more! 🙂 I have another desk (really, more a small table than a desk) 90 degrees to my right on which I have a 27” monitor connected to my MacBook Pro, which is for other uses while I sim. Since I mostly sim IFR with tubeliners, once I’ve taken off, there is only so much “flying” that I have to do, with rather long stretches of time with only contacting various centres to do, so I use my MacBook Pro for work (checking my Outlook mail, doing research, etc.) and for gadding about the web (YouTube, especially) for the time between climbing to cruising altitude and descending for landing. I’ve developed and expanded upon my simming set-up over the years, and I realize that I’m lucky to have the room to be able to put things where they are. By the way, I’m wondering if this topic would be better off in “Hangar Chat”? Seems to be applicable to anyone flight simming on any platform. Just a thought …
  10. I, for one, welcome our robotic overlords. 😜
  11. I have both FSGRW and AS. I bought FSGRW years ago and have upgraded it as time has gone on. I bought AS afterward (years ago) and have upgraded it, too. I tend to use AS most of the time I sim, since many of the aircraft I use integrate with it, but every now and then, I like to run FSGRW. I find that FSGRW is a little less hazy on the horizon than AS in the area in which I live, so for me, it seems to be slightly more realistic to what I see out my window.
  12. First of all, I agree with @Tim_Capps: you are an inspiration. I hope that I’m swimming when I’m 82. Concerning your question, this sounds like it might be a permissions issue. In which folder is your P3D?
  13. Interesting question. I find myself flying the FSLabs Airbus series a lot, mostly the A320. I've gotten pretty proficient at it, although I'm still a little challenged by landing at consistent rates (currently around 200-250 fpm). I have the Aerosoft Airbus A318-A321, but with my last update to v5, I haven't downloaded them. Second would have to be the NGXu (love the immersion), followed by the Aerosoft CRJ (no autothrottle keeps you on your toes throughout your flight). I also find myself less and less tempted to buy further aircraft. I already have most of the study-level ones, and I'm planning to fly them more in the future, but something about the FSLabs Airbuses just keeps me coming back.
  14. Yes. The camera stopped working after about 6 or 7 years. I bought a new TIR and it worked perfectly out of the box.
  15. I'm so sorry, @sightseer. I've been there. My mom passed away in June, 2019, at the age of 94. She was a feisty, fiercely independent woman who came to Canada from London as a war bride, and she proudly lived on her own until 93. It was her time to leave us, but we were lucky that one of the doctors in the care home told us a few weeks before she passed that she had only a few weeks left. We were also fortunate that the day that she died, the care home phoned me and told me that the family should see her that very day because she was on her way out. My family and I, as well as my brother and his family, got to say good-bye. I'm grateful for that. I'm 61 now, and it's been two years, but I think about her every day. No matter how old we get, our mom is our mom is our mom. I miss her horribly.
  16. I see what you did there. 🙂 ... and it both exists and doesn't exist.
  17. No need to apologize ... no offence taken. 🙂
  18. Well, I have three degrees, including a doctorate (just call me "Dr. Murray"), am a former prof and Associate Dean and currently a Director, and am still at the same university where I've been employed for the last 21 years ... and I'm just a regular kinda guy. And ... I can walk, talk, and chew gum at the same time. 🙂
  19. There are no dumb questions. 🙂 The hotfix isn't labelled as such. On the purchased downloads page, you should see the link for the full download, but just under that you should see another link: + Individual Component Downloads (click to expand) Click the link, and you should see the individual components. There are 20 of them. The one you want to download is Install_Client.msi, which is only 237 MB. Once you've downloaded it, run the file to download.
  20. Bwahaha! Not what I expected at all! Thanks for a good laugh.
  21. Thanks, Noel. Great explanation. So if I understand your signature correctly, setting the monitor to 30Hz would entail changing the settings for the monitor Hz refresh rate setting via NVidia Inspector ... or via the monitor settings themselves? Within P3D 5.2, the setting would be unlimited framerate, but Vsync on, correct? How about the frame buffer (or whatever it's called)?
  22. I echo what Ray said. When I installed AIG, I installed my most highly desired liveries immediately, and then installed the others over the next few weeks.
