  1. On its way Ryan and glad to hear it still may be the file. Might save me tons of time.
  2. I'm still stuck in this error after having PMDG send a new dll.xml and also trying repairs / re-installs on the product. I'm a bit baffled and an my next step will be uninstalling add-ons that share the .xml to see if there's something else messing with this. I also want to comment that I believe there's something subtly screwy going on with Windows 8 (besides joystick disconnects). Things just seem to change for no reason. Back to the topic - if anyone can save me from doing 1-at-a-time uninstalls for troubleshooting, please shoot me a tip. Bob
  3. You're a good man Robert. If you don't mind, I'll forward the link to this thread to my own community and co-workers. Bob
  4. In late 1987, I was in a retail store in MA. and a new department with computer software was setup. Always in search for the ultimate game, a title caught my eye. It was Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer. The PC upgrades immediately started. The CGA card went out for a VGA card (1 1/2 weeks of salary). Memory upgrade from 512k to 640k. Math-co processor, then a 286 PC, then a 386pc. In 1989 - FS3 went on my computer and I never looked back. More hardware upgrades came to run it smoothly. The 486 PC (2 months salary) came. Then FS4 came out - and add-ons really started coming. I started a BBS to distribute download files (32 Bit Bus BBS) It grew to 6 PC's and 6 telephone lines. FS5, FS95, FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, FS9, FSX Fly!, ATP, and a few other programs along with all the combat sims starting with subLogic Jet, F-19, all the Jane's titles, Microprose titles, EA, etc. etc. I think of all the scenery I bought - starting with Scenery Disk #12. All the aircraft, weather programs, flight planners, tweakers, gauges, checklists. All the hardware. Processors, cases, motherboards, graphics cards, yokes, peddals, joysticks, button tablets, gaming keyboards. Now I think back over the last 25 years - since I was 20 years old - how many evenings and weekends I lost. I have spent 3 hours on Saturday mornings just planning for a flight. How many blue screens, and resets, and hours upon hours of frustrating tweaking and setups and hardware issues. I think about my kids growing up watching their dad glued to a computer. How many times I was late for events because I just had to get the aircraft up to cruising altitude and engage the autopilot. All the sunshinning days I was locked in my home office completely involved in a hobby - that gave very little back. All the horrible thoughts I had - wishing my family would go out for a few hours so I could have uninterrupted time in a dark office simulating an airline flight. 10 years ago, the secret joy I had when the family went out of town for a week and I was alone doing all the long uninterrupted flights I never had time for. How I had a hard time watching movies with my wife because I was wishing I had these 2 hours to make a flight. The 3 times a day - every day - I checked all the websites to see if any new add-ons were being introduced. I was obsessed with pinball and video games in the arcade when I was a kid, and Flight Simulator as an adult. The hobby has stressed me personally and financially because I couldn't do it in moderation. So before I get much older and realize my entire life passed me by, I decided to clean everything off my hard drive and dump the yoke, pedals and joysticks in the trash. The computer goes on e-bay and I will buy a tablet for browsing and e-mail which is the only other thing I do with a computer. God bless you to those who can do this hobby in moderation. If my story sounds familiar, maybe we should start a support group for those trying to get off the hobby. I will say though, the community for FS is world-class. The simmers, the freeware and commercial developers, and community forum operators are the most helpful and mature group of folks I've encountered in the cyber world. Thanks to everyone I've interacted with over the years. Time to get outside. Bob Bernstein bb1134@yahoo.com~
  5. Guys. Don't believe Robert about the deer. It wasn't a suicide. The deer stopped him and asked for a release date and to be a beta tester. See what happens?
  6. Nothing against xbox crowd (I play sports games and racing games despite the cheesy avatars). But as an xbox user, it's pretty easy to guess where MS is taking the FS brand. If PMDG or Aerosoft develop an add-on, I'm wondering if it gets posted to the Marketplace and we buy it with MS credits with MS taking a chunk of the revenue ... I would think simMarket and others would be pushed out. Just like the App Store dominates apps for iPhone. I was hoping FS11 would be a stable (or completed) version of FSX (like Windows 7 improvements over Vista) with DX10 built out, maybe improved (and updated) ATC and better realism with weather... and updates to navdata... (etc. etc..) I can't wait 3 years for Flight to put all the airports in that I already have today. That's why I don't have much hope. How long until my VA has all the airports in our route schedule? FSX is a good sim, but it's been abandoned, and Flight is a different animal. So my hopes for a stable, improved version of my FSX is gone... I would have rather MS created a virtual "earth" so that racing, trucking, trains, flying, construction, farming etc... all could have been add-ons to the virtual earth. Then we would have a real cool community of life with all simmers in the same world..
  7. Now I have a PC-Version of an xbox game. I'm not happy and have no hope for 3PD's to get involved. How insulting to buy "tokens" .... Will this be the guy flying the airplanes?
  8. Preparing my home office with surround-sound for this one. Maybe rub a little oil under my nose and stick my feet in ice water for the full effect while flying. Can't wait.
  9. Agreed but I'd hate to see you go dormant due to the grief you get when you're simply keeping us informed. The status updates, whether I'm happy about them or not, are MUCH appreciated.I'm still waiting on a status update for that A310 from another developer I bought 9 years ago. I'm sure it will be any day now. :D
  10. AJ - If Robert goes quiet because of all this grief you're causing, then it's a big loss for everyone else.Suck it up, open a ticket, and drop the drama - please.I'll be more than happy to personally refund your money for the product if you delete the software and go find other developers to be angry with. The only proper response to Robert's post should be "thanks for the update".
  11. I think it's nice to know an update is coming and we should all know by now that it won't be released if the developer isn't satisfied with it. I happen to like the status updates/estimates and if they get pushed, no big deal. A sub-par patch will create more support work than none at all. I'm very satisfied with PMDG's communications.
  12. Shot #3 and shot #4 is what I've been waiting for all my life in MSFS. I want to feel like I'm moving when I'm down low and autogen just doesn't do it. That's amazing. Maybe I keep FS for commercial flights and use x-plane for VFR.
  13. I removed all my Wilco software, cleaned up the xml.dll and it fixed the problem for me.Just something for you to try if it applies to your setup. Win7X64
  14. It was a two-year deal where World operated between Toronto and Asia for Air Canada. The livery is in the download library N274WAhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/darylchapman/4097812183/
  15. So.... pretty nice pictures they posted up there aye? I like the dirt in the little grooves on the knobs.
  16. Makes me want to use hand sanitizer just looking at. :wink:Oh .. I was talking about the beautiful pictures posted by Robert. What's everyone else talking about?Seems to me there's nothing to discuss other than PMDG is working on a masterpiece.
  17. I don't know what rock I've been under for 15 months, but I installed this last night and the results (FPS, smoothness, and visuals) are incredible. Thanks for this great mod.REX OD + GEXSpecs AMD 965 Quad @3.4mhz8gb DDR32X ATI 5770HD 4X AA App managed AF[GRAPHICS]ALLOW_SHADER_30=1D3D10=0TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096NUM_LIGHTS=8AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=0COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1LANDING_LIGHTS=1AC_SELF_SHADOW=1EFFECTS_QUALITY=1GROUND_SHADOWS=0TEXTURE_QUALITY=3IMAGE_QUALITY=0See_Self=1Text_Scroll=1SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672[DISPLAY.Device.ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series.0]Mode=1920x1200x32AntiAlias=1Anisotropic=1[Display]BLOOM_EFFECTS=0SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0WideViewAspect=True
  18. I'm glad to see the old front page back. I can quickly scan all the news with my mouse wheel which I was severely missing. BobKMEM
  19. Scandinavian13: Just when I thought I knew a lot, you dropped this obvious one on me....What a great retro-fit Boeing did on the DC-10 to MD-10. Thanks for the good reading tonight. I never knew they did this to the DC-10.Do you know of anyone else besides FedEx that got the MD-10 upgrade?Of course knowing this makes me want to slap the PMDG panel on a DC-10 ... but that's a taboo subject. :DBenny: Good luck with the landings. I have a flight setup downwind on KMEM 18L and change the weights / winds around for practice. From what I've learned, autoland is typically used when visibility conditions make it a safe alternative. I think most pilots prefer to hand fly the landings. And I know the FO doesn't get credit for a landing on autoland - so good luck. It's a great plane to hand fly.
  20. Will there be a FS9 version? Can we get the manuals now?Any updates on your next project?
  21. I had the privilege of meeting a FedEx MD-11 FO on my way home from Hong Kong last week and we had some time to talk on the way.He indicated that the MD-11 vs. MD-10 (he flies both) gets a little shaky <30 ft over the ground. WIth LW >450k, it drops like a brick and your flare has to be early. <450k LW, you can encounter pitch up/down with a cross wind.I guess what I took from that is, you have to be very aware of your landing weight and stay ahead of the aircraft. Practicing approaches at all different LW's will increase your success rate.Interestingly, he indicated the MD-10 (he calls it the MD, not the DC) is a dream to land.I didn't think it would be that different, but I guess so.
  22. Referring more to uiautomationcore.dll . Once over that hump, the combo can't be beat for performance. His Alienware rig (once working should be great.
