I finally got Sp1 Installed. The root cause: Vista Sp1 is not compatible with BitDeffender Version 10. Disabling was not enough, it had to be uninstalled. MS or BD did not tell be this, I stumbled across it on a MS web page.By the way, if you have BD V10, you can install BD 2008 and use your V10 ser# to get the remainder of you subscription.Ron
  2. Vista SP1 is causing lots of problems. Lots of people are reporting endless reboot loops and trashed system disks.I installed Sp1; it failed to install and boot looped twice and finally failed to boot with a system file "NTOSKRNL.EXE not found",error code OXC0000098.I had to do a repair from the Vista install CD followed by a restore.I think I will wait a while for MS to get that fixed before I try that again.Ron
  3. If you think SP1 is causing a problem, just roll back to the last 'restore point' before you installed SP1 and see if the problem is gone.Ron
  4. I have the 940105 hot fix installed some time back and it does not fix my problem. I am running Vista 32bit with a Q6600, 2 Meg Ram and a 8800GTX and after flying for about an hour and a half, my computer starts to act flaky and then usually CTD. No error code, but Windows will later on report a problem with the NVidia driver and recommend downloading the latest NVidia update. I have yet to find a driver that does not do this. This is the only serious problem I have with FSX, but it is fairly significant.Ron
  5. Hi Steve,I don't have the DreamScenery version, but I have just purchased the Blueprint Simulations KIND. I live in Louisville, and have previously purchased Blueprints KSDF with which I have bee very pleased. The FSX default KIND is pretty bland and lacking in any realistic detail of buildings and taxiways and such. Blueprints KIND looks very nice and hardly made a dent on my frame rate; a great deal for $15Dreamscenery KIND is nearly twice as expensive and my fear was that it would have a heavy PFS penalty.Ron
  6. BitDefender is a very effective AV. However, the overhead and system slowdown when accessing files or starting a program is very high.Ron
  7. >Is there a way to run it on a Quad core in any civilized way>? I get Homo sapiens sapiens 40 fps on the way there and the>fps drop to cromagnon 9 as soon as I hit Heathrow. Is there a>way to enjoy it in FSX ?>>Q6600 @ 3 GHz>4 Gb RAM>Vista 64 bit>DX9I just did a flight into the stock Heathrow and got 14 FPS on the runway with Active Sky X and TrackIR. 9 FPS may not be that unrealistic with a custom airport.Maybe you should ask on the Aerosoft support forum. They might have some good ideas.http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/RonQ6600 @ 3GHz2Gb RamVista 32 UltraDX10
  8. Best place to ask would be the Aerosoft support forums.http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/Ron
  9. Now if I could find a work around to get my tool-tips back with DX10 enabled. I loved getting the long promised DX10 features, but now I can't read/set the baro on my altimeter and setting the Nav or Hdg bugs on the HSI or any of a number of other settings on custom aftermarket gauges is just a guess without tool-tips. Anyone have a fix for that?Ron
  10. "some details just have to fall thru the cracks...to>be filled by 3rd parties that can devote the time it takes to>the little details."I largely agree with that sentiment. I have always considered MFS to be the base platform and the aftermarket products to be the finishing touches. I rarely fly any of the default planes as they all feel 'unfinished' and generally lack attention to detail in all aspects.Ron
  11. >OKflight etc like map view in FS.It was a lot quicker.RonI agree, the moving map access from inside FS was the key highlight for FSNav, and a must for any new planner. It would be great if a new planner could be accessible both without FSX running and from inside FSX when it is running.Ron
  12. I appreciate and will take all the tips I can get.:-) Unfortunately on my Vista system with a Q6600 and an 8800GTX it made absolutely no FPS difference with all the Vista visual goodies on or off.Ron
  13. I have installed Acceleration and my frame rates I am happy to report have increased by around 30% even with bloom and water 2.I am still having jaggies on cockpit shadows and some flashing runway textures. Are these common problems that are yet to be fixed in a video driver update, or have I got something wrong in my setup?Ron
  14. I take the silence to indicate that this was totally unexpected and perhaps they are currently stumped.
  15. EventViewer is indeed a great tool. I just recovered from a problem with BitDefender anti-virus program. I was getting random 'stopped working' errors loading programs along with other unrelated problems. EventViewer pointed to a .dll used by BitDefender so I removed it and all my problems vanised; Voil
  16. >I'm amazed this feature is not built into FSX. Anybody know>why not?I heard it was the usual... Too big a hit on frame rate.Ron

    FS11 Wish List

    >As a developer, my wish is that FS11 not be released for 3>years minimum :-)>>We're just starting to get our heads around FSX and Vista...>and soon it will be FS11 and Vienna.>>My head hurts already :-)>>Bryan>I will second that! When FSX can run with all sliders full right with constant 30FPS in the most dense scenery and autogen and loaded with lots of aftermarket addons, a new expansion pack should be offered to celebrate it's coming of age, and then we can begin to consider FS11 being brought to market.Ron
  18. Hi Geofa,Canada looks great, I download it as soon as I saw it was available. I can hardly wait for UTX Alaska, then "Misty"!Not to go too far off topic, but from your comment about Acceleration/sp2 I take it that it is not necessary to start with a clean install when adding the new MS addon/sp?Ron
  19. It's a small point, but it looks more like the gear is in the unloaded pre-touchdown position.Ron
  20. I guess it bothers me more since I used those views for years for a quick look back at the runway as I am taking off, or a look at the ground as I bank steeply left or right and could quickly snap back to a front view with gauges. It's not something I can't live without, but it sure was handy for low level flying and sightseeing.Ron
  21. In FS9 and earlier (I think also in FSX before SP1), pressing the "W" key from the 2D cockpit gave an unobstructed view in all directions using the direction keys or joystick hat. Current FSX SP1 and SP2, the unobstructed view is only available looking forward.Ron
  22. I have similar feeling about the Xgraphics FEX comparison. Especially at that price point, I don't feel the need to buy every new iteration of the same concept unless there is a significant and obvious improvement. I am still quite impressed with the look of ASX and Xgraphics, and the fact they are linked together is a plus.As I understand there are plans for a weather component to FEX, and in the future simmers may have a choice when shopping for the perfect weather and graphics solution.Ron
  23. I don't have any Wilco aircraft, but that is not the first time I have heard of poor fps.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...01597&mode=full
  24. Poul, I am running Vista Ultimate; see earlier post above for my specs.I see very faint banding in the menu screen but I have to look for it as it does not really slap you in the face. I also looked at the opening splash screen and it has obvious banding. However, I see absolutely no banding in the sky or scenery as I am flying. I am using Active Sky X and X Graphics and the sky looks remarkable.Ron
  25. I have been using Vista Ultimate for about 4 months now. I have to admit Vista still has its quirks, but I like it much better than XP.My XP Pro box now sits idle most of the time. It would be difficult to go back.Ron
