  1. https://www.gog.com/game/falcon_collection $2.49 Includes Falcon 4, so a cheap way to get hold of a legal copy of that, if you're into that sort of thing (BMS, etc).
  2. Thank you so much to everyone for your replies; wonderful videos backed up by an excellent forum. I hope you won't mind too much if I slip in another quick question: What is the (two position?) button on the far left of the control column for (not the elevator trim)? I suspect it's a PTT (one position for radios, the other for intercom)? Thanks.
  3. I believe that in the (cadet) videos you use the AP button on the panel to disengage the autopilot at the end of the approach. I have mapped to control column A/P disc button (pro version) to my joystick and noticed that when using that button the effect is not the same (there's beeping and flashing). I push the button twice (to cancel the alerts?). The control column button seems more natural to me, and I was just wondering which button is usually used (IRL) to disengage at the end of the approach. Also, what is the difference between using the control column button and the panel AP button?
  4. Many thanks for posting the checklist and for your detailed reply, all much appreciated. I´m very impressed with the cadet videos, and look forward to getting the FO course soon.
  5. Hi, Is there any way to get hold of your checklists from the cadet course as a pdf? I've found several references to a pdf but can't seem to find a download anywhere. As it would be nice to replicate the flights in your videos, is there any chance you could offer the plates, *.flt files, etc as downloads to accompany the videos?
  6. From PILOT'S site it appears that we DVD owners have to wait until they release a new installer: "For our DVD versions we are just working on updated installers, which turned out to be more difficult than anticipated due to the variety of versions around. Stay tuned as we will announce their release whenever they are ready." I did a manual installation based on this link. 7-zip was able to open all the bin files without having to rename to *zip. I extracted all the *.bin files with *_10_* in the name, where there were conflicts I always selected files with newer dates. I had to reference my old P3Dv2 installation backup to decide which bgl files to rename*. Although the procedure provides a list, I found that this list did not quite agree with the renamed bgl files I had in my P3Dv2 install. I also referenced my P3Dv2 backup to get the entries for the scenery.cfg file*. As far as I can tell it all seems to work. I'll undo my changes and reinstall when they provide a new installer. *let me know if you'd like me to post these.
  7. Just wondering whether there's been any news regarding release of piston Duke and Legacy into P3D, and what the situation is now v3 is out?
  8. Considering how long they've been advertised as "coming soon" on their website, I wouldn't assume RA's definition of the the word "soon" equates with most people's. C'mon RA, release them already!

  10. "The airport resides at an elevation of 1,334 ft (407 m) above mean sea level." (quote from wikipedia) There is nothing wrong here... what you are doing is correct. "would I not crash is using ILS when landing with these settings." You wouldn't. The ILS is a pair of radio beams you follow down to its (antennas) on the ground, so if you were established on the ILS (in theory) it doesn't actually matter what the altimeter reads, as long as you kept the instrument centered you would get down. In reality, the airport elevation is on the approach chart, and pilots account for this when landing. There's quite a bit more to QNH / altimetry, but hope the above (simplified and brief explanation) is a start to answering your question.
  11. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-Replica-Force-Cougar-Flight/dp/B002HH9TRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425732070&sr=8-1&keywords=thrustmaster+mfd (IMHO) extremely good price for some decent kit, just picked up a pair. Suspect they won't stay at this price for very long. Stick a few of these onto a monitor and you have one of the most cost-effective home cockpit options going. I currently run three stuck onto a 20" monitor. Going to run four instead, and this will leave with me a couple of spares.
  12. I also think PMDG's pricing is extremely unfair on those who have already paid for the FSX version. Fortunately I had bought the boxed version, which is now on eBay, and will make buying the P3D version much more palatable. Since I was only keeping FSX for this aircraft and the RealAir (who know how to implement a fair pricing policy) Duke, I can finally get rid of FSX forever (famous last words).
  13. Not exactly what you asked for, but posting just because I think it's brilliant (and it is free). http://forum.avsim.net/topic/424726-737ng-dispatch-sheet-updated-to-version-495/ (for NGX only and requires Excel)
  14. I haven't tried it, but from previous experience if you were to copy the contents of whatever the new scenery location is to the old scenery location (%program data%), that would most likely sort the issue. A better method would be to create a symbolic link from the old location to the new. I suspect this would get you up and running until the issue is resolved by the dev. http://www.windows7home.net/how-to-create-symbolic-link-in-windows-7/ Sorry, I have no access to a P3D installation at the moment (I'm away from home), so just guessing...
  15. I'll have a go... 270 - 225 = 45 degrees difference Clock code as I understand it 15 minutes past the hour (3 o'clock position) -> 1/4 of the clock 30 minutes past the hour (6 o'clock position) -> 1/2 of the clock 45 minutes past the hour (9 o'clock position) -> 3/4 of the clock 60 minutes (12 o'clock position) -> ALL of the clock As the difference between the track and heading is 45 degrees, you multiply the max drift (12 as you've calculated) by 3/4 = 9 degrees which is the drift you require to get the answer. variation west -> magnetic best so add 4 degrees to get magnetic heading. Hope that helps.
  16. For those who've received it, just wondering whether it was the FTX version or not? Thanks to all who posted about this, a great deal.
  17. anetwis - thank you very much for those, very helpful (the 1st will do for my purposes). ...but... is there anywhere where I can get the actual FPL for e.g. yesterday's FR8163, like it's possible to do for US flights on flightaware?
  18. Hi, I'm trying to replicate the following in FSX: FR8163 / FR8165 (EGSS / LEMG), and would like to find the real world planned routes. I notice that in flightaware, for US routes this is shown, however it doesn't seem to be there for the flights I'm interested in. Can anyone suggest where I can find this information? Thanks for any help.
  19. For FSX/P3D that's right. For the A10 and KA50 in DCS (and Falcon 4 BMS) it certainly does do gauges. Hence my comments earlier about wouldn't it be great if the dev could put in an interface to FSUIPC. Check out this guy's setup. (almost) All the gauges are Helios gauges - Helios "talks to" DCS World and pulls the data to feed to its gauges.
  20. I use Helios with P3D, but in a very limited way. I have a second monitor with Thrustmaster MFDs stuck over them. Helios is very useful to me for producing overlays (text labels) which I can turn on and off using joystick buttons to remind me what all the buttons do. I also have overlays that I can bring up to remind me what my Cougar joystick / saitek throttle buttons I have assigned to do what. With my poor memory and different configs for many different planes this can be very useful. For this sort of usage it works perfectly without any interference or discernible loss of frame rate. There is no Helios interface for P3D (unfortunately), so Helios P3D gauges are currently a no-no (please someone correct me if I'm wrong). I would expect switches to work using keystrokes, but I don't do this, as I find it's better just to use (or create) P3D 2D panels for this. I've been using Helios with DCS World for a while and it really is a wonderful app. I get the impression that the developer is no longer updating it, which is a real shame. An FSX/P3D/FSUIPC interface would be fantastic.
  21. A suggestion. You can give yourself more options when getting to your destination by pressing "0", instead of just reading out the default initial contact message once you change to the approach frequency.
  22. I've never had to do this, in 6.34 or before. Once I tune into ATIS, after about 30 seconds (I suppose to give me time to listen to it), the VoxATC display changes from "listen to ATIS" to tell me the next frequency to contact (usually to get a clearance).
  23. "I have made sure that the corresponding waypoints for the sid and star are in my flight plan" I think you're already doing this, but just in case. I would try to make sure that the last waypoint of the SID, and the first waypoint of the STAR are the first and last waypoints of the plan (after and before the departure and destination airports). I believe that the name of the waypoints must be the same in the flight plan file as in the navdata. I, for instance, have been flying a STAR called VIBAS 1U, which ends at VIBAS. So in my plan I have the departure airport, then VIBAS, and then the rest of the route.
  24. Well, you did ask. It's UK-specific, but a good real-world reference. http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?appid=11&mode=detail&id=3441
  25. Thanks for all the replies, btw, they've been very helpful. Sorry if I'm being a bit dense... Would it not be more correct to say that it's the particular mesh that has been been created with the correct elevation data, and that the AECs correct for the mesh, and not for vector? My understanding is that only airports contain elevation data, and that no Vector items do (since they get their elevations from the underlying mesh). Maybe this assumption is where I'm going wrong. So if you're on default mesh, with default airports, and you add vector, I continue to fail see why the elevations of airports should change if you DON'T apply the corrections for them.
