TIP! minimize OOM (out of Memory)
El padrino replied to Michael Moe's topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
I run on the same machine (check my specs) FSX with NGX, some kind of scenery (Heraklion, Athens, Stockholm etc) as I fly to addon airport scenery, FS Real Time, GSX, UT2 (100% traffic), REX textures, Aivlasoft EFB (monitor 2), AS2012 (monitor 2), I connect my Saitek X52pro and sometimes (rarely) I also surf the net. I always fly in windowed mode as I switch between FSX and EFB a lot and I get between 10 to 20 fps near the ground and much more at cruise... How I do this? Bought 64bit Win7... I know the fps are not good, but it's still well flyable without losing the eye candy, but with 64bits OOMs are over for ever! One of the best, easiest and cheapest upgrades I've ever done in any of the PCs I have had during the last 17 years!!! -
How recent is your chart?
-
It's because of the wind. The plane will automatically fly into the wind in order to compensate the cross wing effect and follow the correct track on the ground.

How to properly gauge the impact strenght of a touchdown ?
El padrino replied to a topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
At least in theory, if you descent at a normal rate (c. 600-700 fpm depending on GS), follow the glideslope properly (IIRC c. 100 ft height at threshold) , be near the correctly calculated IAS, retard the throttles at 50 ft above ground and flare correctly (not little, not much) at 10 (?) ft, you'll do a great landing... From theory to practice it's a long long way, at least for me. Hadn't "flown" for quite a few weeks and my last attempt was a big mess, although everything was going on very well till almost touchdown. Guess I need to practice more... PS Correct me if the figures above are not true please. -
Need to change your nick name now... Keep going Captain!

How can PMDG simulate this origami thing and writting on paper? PS Love the captain's neck tie!!!

It's been 35+ all over Greece the last days, but this week I happened to take four flights (all were with Airbusses) and none of the others left their flap like this. Actually it was the same plane at Rhodes who started with flaps up and it was much warmer there as it was earlier in the noon. Anyway it's interesting to know that there are cases where flaps stay lowered. Cheers guys!

A couple of days ago I took a flight from Rhodes (LGRP) to Athens (LGAV) and noticed that although tha plane had docked at the gate, engines were shut and we were deboarding the flaps were at position 1 (it was an Airbus) and not fully up. I think the pic says it all... Is this something that happens commonly or they forgot about it? Personally it was the first time I saw not fully up flaps at a parked plane!

[HD Video] NGX Descent and Landing into London
El padrino replied to aceridgey's topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
Excellent video Alex! And the graphics are amazing!! Love the EZDOK effects too. Thinking about getting it so might ask for your profile if you'd like to share. -
If I was worried I would stay in my house doing nothing mate! It's just something that came as a thought when I read the post. :p0502:

That makes perfect sence. What I'm not really sure is how they guarantee that at some point one of the doors explodes at high alt due to the pressure differantiation between the cabin and the outside air. I thought that was exactly the reason why they build (or used to build) all doors opening inwards... Don't say that it'll happen, but from the sound of it is surely is another potential danger. Defective material, human error, poor maintenance... We've seen this happening numerous times!
-
Ain't outward opening doors kinda scary as a thought? Wouldn't feel very comfortable sitting next to one of those.

Might be a windows security issue. Check the UAC and turn it off (if it's not).

Missing things in the FMS / CDU? I'm doing wrong?
El padrino replied to Sudden81's topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
You must downselect GG711 in the LEGS page and then type '/5' next to it. IIRC it doesn't work by simply typing 'GG711/5... -
I really cannot see how a livery can affect the functionality of the aircraft. As far as I know there are some liveries that also include airline specific options, but this is far from what you describe! I can't think of any reason that can cause the initialisation process not to start other than a corrupt installation. For a start you can try a repair installation and if this doesn't work you can uninstall and reinstall NGX. In any case you must avoid loading one plane over the other. This is 100% guaranteed that will not work!
-
I think it happens cause you load a PMDG plane on top of a PMDG plane which has been mentioned numerous times that is not good for FSX. Try to load a plane with texture other than the default directly from the FSX 'Free Flight' screen. If you're in flight and want to change livery you must exit the flight (or FSX to make sure) and then load from scratch...

Headwind component Vref calculation clarification ?
El padrino replied to WilloW_737's topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
Here's what I found: "With autothrottles disengaged an approach speed wind correction (max 20knots) of 1/2 steady headwind component + gust increment above steadywind is recommended. Do not apply a wind correction for tailwinds. The maximum command speed should not exceed landing flap placard speedminus 5 knots." From this I understand that the corrections apply to Vref without the +5 correction which is more like a generic rule in low wind conditions. -
Having trouble building a flight plan from cold and dark
El padrino replied to Curt.B's topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
The flight plan includes SIDs, STARs, enroute waypoints, airways etc... DEP and ARR airports says nothing as long as you don't tell the FMC the route (doesn't work like a car GPS that finds the route). I suggest you read the first tutorial that comes with the plane and some other tutorial available all over the net. After that you might consider the use of planning tools (free or not) that make this easier. -

ILS Approach Santos Dumont - Rio de Janeiro

Don't forget that you need the short field package from the FMC options! -
But you talk to the GSX guy. What's the difference?

Agree with the lads above about the i5 and a water cooler (Corsair H80, H100 or similar). You might also consider getting two smaller SSDs rather than one of 256GB, so that OS goes to one and FSX to the other. They'll save you much of loading time both for Windows and FSX , but more importantly don't need defragging! For music, movies, backups etc the old HDs are very cheap and spacious!
-
First (and maybe single) step to FSX tweaking: http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html Read the instructions, apply and test. Most likely that you won't need much tweaking after that!

Don't know what 3rd party DRM rights are, but I don't use any of these. For music I use Media Monkey only... If the fresh install works, then I'll install NGX and FS2Crew to see if that was the reason or it was a coincidence. Will keep you updated...
-
Sorry Bryan, didn't express myself correctly. I changed the OS almost 2 months ago, just hadn't installed FS2Crew till the day before the crash. Yesterday I tried many things like restoring the computer to a previous date, uninstalling FS2Crew, uninstalling and re-installing NGX, adding-deleting files or lines in fsx.cfg (as mentioned in various sites and forums). Nothing worked and I decided to uninstall FSX. Today I'll install it and see if a brand new installation will work. If not... I'm afraid I'll have to redo the OS
