Austin Meyer (creator of X-Plane) updates us on his patent troll problem
Drawbridge Designs replied to Mean Aerodynamic Chord's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions ForumNo interest in getting into a politics discussion here either but CyberMike's comment is factually inaccurate. I looked into this a while back. Carry on...

Where do you get US OrthoImagery GeoTiffs?
From what I can tell, they've switched over to .jp2's. I downloaded some tiles from 6-8 different airports and they were all .jp2's.

Best Airport Design Tool?
No options other than what you noted. My advice: keep your objects along with everything else nice and organized.

Where do you get US OrthoImagery GeoTiffs?
I don't think there are any unless you choose to purchase imagery from numerous data sources. While I haven't tried it, there is a way to convert jpeg2000 files to geoTIFF.

Exclusion Zones in XP10
When you plot an exclusion zone, that prevents parts (whatever you choose from the menu) of the autogen from drawing within that boundary. When you add a building via WED (library or custom) that object will draw within the exclusion zone. I guess you could call it a layer.

Exclusion Zones in XP10
Plot an exclusion zone in WED and in the box below the task bar, choose "objects".

Orthoimagary downloads
You can download the JPG2000 files/tiles from the Viewer and covert them to GeoTiff's. I've never done this BUT there's a program out there called GeoJasper that does the conversion.

Progress Update
I'd like to give a big thanks to those who have purchased ILM. For those who haven't, buy it I'm currently working an update to KILM. We've addressed a few glitches and got some bugs resolved. 4K textures have been added to increase the resolution of a few objects. More vegetation is being added as well as an array of 3d objects to increase the realism. I can't give an exact timeframe for release of the update but I hope to have it done in the next 2-4 weeks. WED is being a huge pain in the &@($* right now and it takes me twice as long to get things done. As far as upcoming projects, I've started work on another "boutique" airport just up the coast from Wilmington. It presents a few challenges. X-Plane renders coastlines and islands like crap so I'm going to cut a new mesh as well as include additional orthoimagery. This should add a lot to the overall detail to the scenery. Moving forward, I hope to include a much larger area of imagery for every airport. The deciding factor in most cases is cost and availability. Good, leaf on, green grass, high resolution imagery ain't cheap. I've also put into motion the start of the Florida Keys. I still have a few things to work out but the plan at this point is offer high resolution scenery for Key West International, Key Largo and Marathon. I'm hoping to have the entire chain of islands covered by high resolution imagery. I'm very excited about this because the imagery is beautiful and crisp. But again, because of the default mesh, I'll have to cut a new one and it's not very fun to do That's all for now. DD

First Topic!
Dennis, Thanks for the input. I suspect that next year we'll do something big. KSAT, KRDU and KCLT have been discussed. You never know:) Cheers!! HF

Whats next ! ?
Thanks for the kind words!! I can say that we've talked about animated jetways and vehicles:) The rest, don't know. HF

First Topic!
Thanks for the kind words. As I mentioned in another topic, we're bouncing quite a few things around. Wilmington was a "test" so to speak, on a lot of fronts. We're really happy with the results. In terms of what we're planning to do geographically, that's a great question. Regional fields like ILM are nice for a lot of reasons. But I do realize that people like "the big stuff" too. We're full-time at this so in the end, nothing is undoable. For now, Europe is a bit of a stretch:) The plan is to push the limits of airport detail and airport security:) HF

Whats next ! ?
Good question. Suggestions are always welcome. We've bounced around the idea of doing some airports in California. There's some awesome NorCal scenery coming out soon and it would be nice to ride it's coattails. We'll make our minds up at the end of the month. There's quite a bit of research involved when picking an airport as well as cost. Thanks for the compliments!!

Who will be making addons for XP-10?
Are referring to new developers working on XP alone? If you are, there are plenty. I started a company last year to develop custom airport scenery for XO10, full-time.

How is XP 10 ?
I suggest getting the demo. That should help you out. There are plenty of threads that are full of pro's and con's. Personally, I love it. Not much in the way of scenery but it's coming and coming fast.

My thoughts after purchasing XP10
Tom Kyler's MU-2 is hard to beat. I think it was even reviewed here at Avsim. Tom has spent many hours in that plane.
