  1. FSCopilot (or some other VATSIM software...) has a taxi speed gauge. You have to manually add it to the aircraft you use it for config file, but it works. I haven't tried it with the NGX, only the default 737, back in the day.
  2. You might have to enable them. While in-game with the 747, go to your Menu Bar (right-click and un-check "Hide Menu Bar") and then go to Add-Ons/PMDG/ and see if you can find the window that has the callout checklist. I can't remember where it is at the moment.
  3. Since you are trying to get VNAV back does that mean you disengaged the whole autopilot? Make sure the disengage bar is up.
  4. I don't know for sure, but I would have it in my head the freezing point of the fuel you are carrying. It would be bad if you found yourself with a block of frozen fuel in your tanks.
  5. If you are in VC, click on the screen of the FMC. A 2D version will instantly appear in the lower-right corner. The FO FMC/CDU appears in the upper-right. You can resize both of these to suit yourself so you can see it. Or you could zoom in.
  6. You can safely ignore FSX ATC without fear of a FP cancellation or have to listen to it if you simply wait until a handoff. Accept the handoff but do not make contact with the new controller. Simple.
  7. I do not know how many lines of code it is, so I cannot tell you, but I did solve how long the entire code for the NGX is when converted to Binary. Assuming ~350 MB for the install (I forgot, that is my estimate), and 1cm for each 1 or 0. The entire coding for the NGX is 17,000 miles. To make it sound even more amazing, that is very close to a light-second. Lets take it down an entire order of magnitude. If each character in the binary for the NGX were 1mm wide, you could go from Los Angeles to Chicago. One measly millimeter at a time.
  8. Check out FCOMv2 page 254. According to the manual, it does not matter which order it is selected. I have not used com2 yet so I cannot judge. Point #2 is what you should be looking at.
  9. Grant admin rights to your FSX folder. Right click on it and choose Properties. Then go into the security tab and edit the user rights for ADMINISTRATORS, SYSTEM, and yourself to have full control. Fixed it up for me.

    NGX Trim

Get a two-way switch for it. I use one of the up/down switches on my Saitek yoke system (more comparable to the trim commands on a 747 than a 37) and it works just fine.
  11. Back when the NGX was first released there were a lot of people asking where all the checklists were. I haven't seen it so much now. Regardless, in spite of this, I went about indexing the checklists and useful tables within the FCOM1. I feel it is pretty comprehensive, but there are still many more references that could be made. Also, I only included the 738 inflight data because that is the most popular model. I might later get on to the others. I would welcome any additional information or suggestions to make this better. Comments as well.
  12. I was flying at 4 ET, or 2100z, and there were no controllers at either airport. (And then SB crashed FSX on approach, oh well.)
  13. Did you ever arrive at your set Cruise altitude? Did you enter in your VREF (landing) speeds?
  14. I don't think you could in the 747. Are you sure?
  15. Check your EICAS fuel page indications as a visual reference. Open and close pumps and crossfeeds to get the desired result. (Example, you do not need to match)http://www.google.com/imgres?q=eicas+747+fuel&um=1&hl=en&rlz=1C1CHNP_enUS418US418&biw=1024&bih=653&tbm=isch&tbnid=NpN6jSc6RUYvYM:&imgrefurl=http://flyawaysimulation.com/images/media/7006/2d-main-panel/&docid=hLIVQsNNpt71YM&w=800&h=598&ei=2OxgTsX7NcqjsQKTxYnrDw&zoom=1
  16. You probably turned a dial after you tuned the radio, possibly thinking it would turn it on (or not). The fact is that the radio receivers are always on. What you hit was the switch to turn on the audio, which is a loose identifier of how close you are. Simply turn the switch back off to silence it.
  17. Its not so much based on climb grade, rather engine thrust level. Airlines will use a derated takeoff and/or climb to reduce noise, and let the airplane ascend as much as it can.
  18. An airway, or Jetway for high altitude flying, is a route that airplanes fly to get from point to point. The airway is a string of airspace fixes that airplanes travel between in sequence to get to another point along that sequence. In a flight plan an airway will look like this "SEA J523 IMB." This is code for start at SEA (Seattle) and take the J523 route to the IMB (Kimberly) VOR. On your FMC interface (whose proper name always escapes me) it would look something like my crude drawing below. BOLD indicates that is something you enter in. VIA_______TODIRECT__SEAJ523_____IMB It is actually quite simple once you get it. As Trevor said above though, the airplanes you see are likely not on an airway anymore. They may be on a STAR (Standard Terminal Arrival Route), which act like a Jetway, except they are composed of altitude restrictions that bring airplanes down into the airport and set the, up for the approach. Depending on where you live, they may be on the approach already. They might also be on ATC vectors, but I don't know how common that is by London. The airways that are in your NGX are actually provided by Navigraph, not PMDG. For the most part they are accurate and near a busy airport I would expect them to be mostly accurate, so I would bet they (Being the Airways, STARs, and runway approaches) are there.
  19. For the 747 I use my own custom made planner, check my signature for the link. The 747 manuals, ahh, what simpler times... I hope to be able to do the same for the 737 once I gather the many many (repeat that as many times as needed) pages of data provided.
  20. Go to the general forum and read the Magnetic variation update. See if that fixes it.
  21. It is possible PMDG has added ground effect to the 747. They did it to the new 37. I do not know for sure though.
  22. ActiveSky "X"-treme. PS, did they take this off the market, I can't find it? I know about ASE.
  23. Wherever you buy it, Amazon, Ebay, the PMDG store, or somewhere else, you need to buy it new. The PMDG store sells it by computer download, so that is ideal. It is also best to buy right from the original seller. Amazon is indeed cheaper, but that is through a third party, so you don't know what you are getting. If you can, buy it through a well-known seller. Looking at the available sellers, Target is on for about $33. If you don't want to go through PMDG, I recommend them. (Although Green Valley appears trustworthy) Buying through Ebay is probably the worst of the three I listed. Most things there are used, and it is important to buy it new so you have your own activation code, and no one else has it.
  24. The NGX uses the same navdata. For the time being at least...
  25. Only Richard's posts have VHXX, so he is most likely just misspelling it. So Richard can you confirm that you are typing VHHX in your FMC?
