  1. I don't think FSX is dead at all. Sure Microsoft has stopped supporting it, but honestly how many of us has noticed any difference? It's not dead as long as people are still using it and until the last add-on developer gives up on it it's not even dying in my opinion. As for FS9 I'm almost willing to agree if it wasn't for the few simmers (and even fewer developers) who still stick with it. The hardware bit was true by the time when FSX was released but today a fairly moderate one will do. Sandy Bridge i5's for instance aren't particularily pricey and will run FSX very well and you don't need a high-end graphics card either. As for the tweaking bit it's really not that much you absolutely have to do. Editing a handful of lines in fsx.cfg is all that is needed really. And they ALL look just as good as their FSX equivalents?
  2. Check out some of the many videos of both FS9 and FSX on youtube and then decide.

    We are all OK!

Bugger! I hoped it could at least wait until after the lunch break.
  4. Well, he do come across to me as someone who like to brag about his stuff and I have yet to meet anyone who actually likes such people, so I'm not surprised he gets the occasional thumbs down.
  5. Nothing strange about that. We all like different things. I will admit that those vids looks great and obviously have had a lot of work put into them, but if forced to choose I'd click the "thumbs down"-button because they do nothing for me whatsoever. Out of politeness I normally choose not to state an opinion at all though since I don't much care for airliners and wing view and know that flight sim vids normally bore me to death. That said if I was very interested in airliners and wing view, and found a channel on youtube called "High quality FSX videos" and then saw the video the OP posted my comments probably wouldn't be kind either. It's nowhere near what we would call "high quality" today. One more thing. Those videos by guitargamery did get a few dislikes, yes, but the vast majority were positive. On the other hand two out of three from the same audience disliked the OP's video so maybe he (and others here) should take that as a sign that he's doing something wrong rather than assuming 67% of the viewers are compensating for their insecurity.
  6. Seem to me like you need to work on your attitude as much as your videos. Stooping to the same level as the haters rarely has the desired effect.
  7. ( Callsign ) Lowflyer ( Flightsim version ) FSX ( Experience in Flightsim ) Can fly anything. Prefer piston engines. Refuse to fly NGX. ( Timezone =/- UTC ) UTC+1
  8. I totally agree. Not being an environmentalist hippie or anything (don't even have low-energy bulbs  ) but this is just idiotic. If you're going to leave your computer on overnight at least make it do something useful at the same time, like protein folding.
  9. I don't know. If I recall correctly these things of the past known as "jokes" were supposed to be funny, but after skimming through this thread and other similar ones I have come to the conclusion that with "memes" humor is entirely optional. :search:
  10. I sometimes use the default C172 for IFR procedure training. Other than that I never fly them. They were fine in 2006 but after trying some of the many high quality payware add-ons available today it's only natural that your standards have been raised.
  11. 1) A2A B377. Since I really don't care much for airliners it's kinda funny that there's one at the top of my list, but it is the plane I've been flying the most, mainly thanks to the COTS upgrade. Also if you're going to pretend you're an airline captain why not pick a period when airline pilots were looked upon with respect and envy rather than suspicion as these days? 2) Baytower RV-7. How to pack 2 million tons of fun into one tiny package. If you get bored when flying this you're doing something wrong. 3) A2A Piper Cub. The J-3 is arguably general aviation's greatest icon and A2A's version is the tribute it deserves. Tundra tires means airfields are superfluous.
  12. I was actually just about to do that. They're both very good add-ons and I have them both. However I have after spending some time with them come to the conclusion that the Concorde is after all best experienced from the ground and not so much fun to fly, unlike the B377 which is pure joy all the way, although not as pretty. I'd like to stress though that FSLabs did a fine job with the Concorde and if I didn't think Airbuses were slightly less interesting than dishwashers I'd happily buy their next product.
  13. Flight1 ATR 72: Not bad at all for it's time but the conversion from FS9 to FSX wasn't made properly and I quickly gave up after frequently not being able to complete flights due to random crashes, usually FMC-related. PMDG 737NGX: Great add-on in every way but one that I've hardly used. Bought it because I wanted to see what the fuzz was all about despite not actually giving a toss about jet airliners except for the 747 and, of course, the Concorde. PMDG did a great job but sadly it was a waste of money for me. Wilco Avanti II: The only add-on that I've bought that I would describe as bloody awful. Seems like the devs spent most of their days modelling a car (!) and a blinking woman in the cabin who despite their best efforts still has her butt stuck firmly in the uncanny valley. This is also the only add-on that, for reasons unfathomable to me, caused a bigger fps drop on my PC (i7, 4 GHz) than the NGX.
  14. Whether piracy is to be defined as theft or not is not up to us to decide I think, but there's one thing I'd like to ask the community: Is piracy morally wrong or not? Are people like for instance the founders or Pirate Bay the good guys and the people who wants to stop them the bad guys? I'd like to know because if you guys think it's ok then there's some PMDG stuff I would like to "acquire".
  15. Yeah, I probably don't want to know anyway. Hope you get well soon!
  16. Well, the Tapatalk line is just one line of text at the bottom of the post, and it doesn't make nearly as much noice as those stupid supporter pics. Still, I'm gonna be diplomatic here and say that I hate both equally much. By the way Ron, have you been boycotting your own teamspeak server lately?
  17. As I see it we have two options. Either ignore this whole patent war malarkey, buy the stuff we like and be happy with it, or let it get to us and spend our days banging our heads bloody against the virtual brick wall that discussing these things on the internet is. I'm going with the former. Bye.
  18. And repeatedly letting yourself get upset over such trivial matters makes your life better?
  19. This again, huh? If you think that a guy (admin, whatever) on a Mac forum who prefers MacOS over Linux is the end of the world then you really need to lighten up a bit.
  20. The ATR was a good add-on when it was released for FS9, but the conversion to FSX was not done properly and I remember is as very buggy. Get the J41 instead.
  21. Being 40+ just turned out to be a not so big deal. Still, I won't heed her advice to try to fix up my granddad's car, because the only car I remember him driving was a Morris Marina.
  22. That's the scary bit. Sent from work while the boss wasn't looking using Firefox.
  23. A guy who runs a forum has an opinion which to my mind seems to be based on experience from both systems. So what? And it's a Mac forum by the way...
  24. My goodness what a bunch of doomsday prophets some of you guys are. I just tried starting up FSX and guess what? It worked! :shok:
