    Dallas TFR

It says permanent on there and it has been established since January of 2009 which would make sense if it is for the previous president because that is about the time Obama took office.

    Dallas TFR

I have noticed that there is a permanent TFR (would it be a TFR if it is permanent?) just east of DFW airport for "VIP movement". It is this tiny little circle that only goes up to 1500 feet AGL. Does anyone from that area know what that is for? Is there a theme park there or something? I know both Disney World and Disneyland get TFRs over their parks. http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_9_2934.html
  3. Very nice, that is where I was born. My dad was stationed at Beale for a few years although it was U-2s while we lived there (I think the last SR-71 left Beale right after he got there). I'll ask him next time I talk to him, he might have some ideas for realistic routes.
  4. I think there is a VA section of this forum, but there is also a VA section on the VATSIM forum that has VATSIM approved VAs if you are interested. I have been part of several VAs, most of them fairly large and well established. The first VA I was ever a part of was Catfish Air which is an online only VA (all flights must be flown on VATSIM) that has a ranking structure, lots of routes, and a fair amount of members. Catfish does not force you to fly any particular aircraft or any particular route if you want. You can fly something as small as a C152 all the way up to an A380 and anything in between. I am currently a hub manager at United Virtual Airlines which allows you to transfer hours from previous VAs or VATSIM hours which would allow you to fly your PMDG T7 sooner. The minimum requirements for the T7 is 125 hours. Flights maybe be flown online or offline (as long as you use ACARs for offline flights). One of my favorite VAs to fly for is Delta Virtual Airlines. They have a unique structure that requires pilots to take checkrides to obtain a rating for an aircraft. It would require you to do a few checkrides and do flights before you could start flying the T7 but it is very fun. I don't know if I am allowed to post links to these airlines on this forum but if you would like them just PM me and I can give them to you. Good luck with your search and let me know if you have any questions.
  5. Got Southwest on both of them.
  6. There was a question regarding how it flies compared to real world aircraft. I don't see how someone who owns it saying how it flies hints at them being an employee.
  7. MD-11 is well worth it, you will definitely enjoy it. I would say after the NGX it is my most flown aircraft. I don't understand why it didn't sell as well as the NGX or 777. I mean I know PMDG said why it didn't, but I think it is a stupid reason.
  8. Not a bad article, just curious as to why they used the PMDG NGX. Was it that hard to find pictures of a real 737NG cockpit?
  9. I think even by the time the 777 was introduced in the mid 90s smoking was pretty much banned on all flights. I think the no smoking light was just installed out simply because it had been installed on every airplane prior to that. Look at the 737NG which was introduced in the late 90s, by then smoking had been banned on all flights and the 737NG doesn't have a no smoking light at all.
  10. It is an option in the aircraft settings. Some airlines have opted for the electronics sign and just have permanent no smoking placards in the cabin (because you will never turn off the no smoking sign).
  11. That would be the T-28 Trojan, not a T-24 (there is no aircraft with the designation T-24). Nice pictures though, I'll have to check it out.
  12. Very nice, I do miss the battleship colors a little bit. I flew lots of United flights from KIAD to KORD as a kid since my grandfather is a retired United employee. I like the battleship colors but overall I would say the livery right after that one, the Rising Blue livery, was my favorite. The merger livery is ok but I think out of all the ones they've had before the current one is the worst. Bring back the tulip!
  13. In the simulator the difference is that the NGX has winglets and the NG does not. In real life 737NG refers to any 737 in the 600/700/800/900 series (NG meaning "Next Generation"). PMDG just added the "X" since it is for FSX, that is also why the FS9 version is just called the NG.
  14. What I did is went into my FSUIPC settings and turned off the wind smoothing settings and so far I haven't had any issues. My guess is that the two softwares were conflicting with each other or something like that. Haven't had any issues since then.
  15. I usually surf the web and read stuff or I'll play my Xbox or watch a movie(s). Lately though I have been watching episodes of Air Crash Investigation, perfect show to watch while you are flying .
  16. Yes the no voice unicom is slightly strange but I understand the reasoning behind it. Not all pilots are capable of receiving voice coms so if someone is broadcasting all their intentions on voice then there will be some pilots who cannot hear that information. As for your second point I guess it depends on what time it is and the ARTCC SOPs are. I am a controller for the Miami ARTCC and our policy says that whatever the airport's real life hours are is when we will serve the airport. So, for example, Albert Whitted Field (KSPG) in St. Petersburg is a Class D in the Tampa TRACON and the tower is only open from 0700-2100 local time so between 2100-0700 if someone flies out of there they will not have ATC service until they come into the Class B.
  17. I am now starting to have the same issue, the discrepancy is huge too. The METAR from VATSIM and from real world sources will show the altimeter at KDCA as 30.16 while ASN is showing it and inserting into my game as 30.43. This presents an issue because when I am flying on VATSIM the sim thinks the barometric pressure is 30.43 while the VATSIM controller is expecting my altimeter to be set to 30.16. I have checked to make sure ASN is in Live Weather Mode and it still gives me way different weather conditions.
  18. I don't have the enhanced turbulence ticked either. I'll have to play with the settings a bit, but having my speed jump up and down 10 knots and my nose constantly bouncing around is not fun. It is nonstop and I have a hard time believing that I am encountering turbulence at every phase of flight. It has gotten so bad that I can't get my 737 to go below 150 knots on final approach which is a problem because my landing speed is usually around 130-140 knots. I will have landing gear down, flaps 30, and even have my speed brake deployed but it will not get below 150 knots. This is also not isolated to one area. I have it flying on the east coast, west coast, and Europe.
  19. So I am getting this very annoying bug in my game where my speed will jump up and down and the nose of my aircraft will jerk up and down while flying. At first I thought it was the wind bug but I own a registered copy of FSUIPC and have the wind smoothing option ticked. Looking at my instruments it doesn't display the wind quickly changing speed or direction so it isn't the wind bug. I went into my FSX weather settings and the Disable turbulence and thermals near aircraft was unticked so I checked it to see if it would help but no luck there. The weather setting in free flight would default to fair but it didn't seem to affect ASN controlling the weather but on my next flight I changed it to User Defined just to see if that would fix it but not that either. It doesn't seem to effect one particular aircraft either; I have it happen when I am flying the PMDG NGX or MD11, it happens in my Aerosoft Airbus series, Milviz B350 King Air, A2A C172. So I am out of ideas and it is starting to irritate me having my aircraft bouncing around. In case it matters I am flying all these flights on VATSIM using vPilot and I checked the settings in vPilot for weather related settings but there are none.
  20. Not exactly, but I did have an issue where the weather in game did not match the METAR that either ASN or real world METARs were showing. ASN and real world METARS matched up and showed clear skies with 10 mile visibility but in the sim I had clouds all the way down to 800 feet and about 2 mile visibility. Not sure exactly what caused it but it hasn't happened again yet.

    RIP Air Tran...

I still disagree with your opinion, but I respect it. It won't really matter anymore though because AirTran no longer exists, so problem solved I guess. I don't blame you for not flying any African airlines, not the greatest safety record over there lol.

    RIP Air Tran...

Of course you have a choice to boycott them I was just saying that I don't agree with the reasoning. As far as other airlines, I know they had many that were unavoidable or out of their control but there have been plenty that were due to negligence. There have been plenty of cases of negligence from maintenance crews, air crew, or corporate practices and some of these have led to incidents as well. My point being that if you refused to fly AirTran based on a incident 19 years ago you might as well not fly any of the major airlines flying today because most of them have had at least one incident in the past that was caused due to negligence on someone's part. Just my opinion on the matter.
