  1. Statistics like those are very misleading and not an accurate portrayal of overall safety. First, the MD-11 entered service four years prior to the A330. Next, if you consider how many flights the MD-11 has done and only had 9 hull losses (with only 5 being fatal) that is still an excellent record. I would also look to see how many of those accidents were due to pilot error because that has little to do with the aircraft and more to do with the pilot.
  2. Go with Milviz, I have bought many of their products (including the F-15E) and can assure you it is an excellent addon. A buddy of mine has the IRIS F-15 so I was able to try that out on his sim and was not as impressed with the IRIS so I felt I made the right choice. If you are interested in their other military aircraft then I can also vouch for the T-38 Talon even though it is a trainer for fighter pilots and not used in combat it is still really fun to fly. I have the Stuka (WWII German dive bomber) but haven't played around with it too much. I do not have the F-86 but have heard good things about it if you are looking to fly an old school fighter. The F-4E they are working on is available but it is still in beta phase so it isn't complete. Again, I don't have it myself (yet) but have heard excellent things about it as well. I own many of their current aircraft and I have never had a bad experience with Milviz so anything you buy from them should be of excellent quality.
  3. Yes, very true. The Bonanza A36 is one of the few glass cockpit aircraft they have done that I enjoy. I am not a big fan of their glass cockpit aircraft because 1) it is usually a very basic representation of the systems which makes it almost pointless, and 2) I get to see plenty of glass when I fly most of my airliners. Sometimes it is nice to have some pretty gauges to look at.
  4. Valid point. And you are on the right track. I only buy stuff from them when it is the 9.99 sale because they do have a couple of aircraft that I like to fly but are not produced by any other companies. As soon better models are released I quickly uninstall them. Like I said earlier there are a few Carenado aircraft that I like to fly (Bonanza A36 for one), but it I am kind of in the same situation that I am in with the other company. Nobody produces many of those aircraft, so until a better replacement comes along for my A36 I will keep purchasing their some of their aircraft. Luckily we have some really great companies producing more and more GA aircraft (Milviz, RealAir, A2A, to name a few).
  5. Yes, but didn't someone just say on this post that they were working on a fix soon? So there you go, they are addressing the issue and fixing it. I own a couple Carenado aircraft and some of them I really enjoy and a few of them I don't fly so much anymore so I am really indifferent on the subject. And I can think of one company that probably has a sloppier testing process who's name also starts with a "C".
  6. Or maybe people just need to understand that Carenado is one of those companies that produces "lite" aircraft and should stop expecting in depth system models from them. I mean if they have released 25+ aircraft and not one of them goes very in depth with systems why are people assuming Carenado is the one doing something wrong? Maybe everyone else is just misunderstanding what Carenado is advertising. As much as I would love to see Carenado release some aircraft with in depth systems I understand that they are clearly not interested in that. As for bugs, every aircraft released will have bugs. Even companies like PMDG, Majestic, or [insert your favorite company here] produce aircraft that have bugs on their first release. As long as they are addressing them and fixing them in a timely manner I have no issues with that company.
  7. Yes, that is true and I think it applies in pretty much every country. I've noticed that someone from Baden-Wurttemburg is different from someone that lives in Brandenburg. I'll keep the Kilkenny in mind next time I'm in an Irish pub.
  8. Well its glad to know I wasn't the stupid American this time, lol. I think Harp tastes pretty good, I've also drank plenty of Smithwicks and enjoy that too. Not sure why I didn't think of asking for a Smithwicks instead, oh well.
  9. I just want to know if it is seen as an American thing to order one? Kind of like ordering an Irish Car Bomb in an Irish pub (I hear that is not recommended in Ireland), not that I plan on drinking any of those.
  10. I have recently been stationed in Stuttgart Germany for a two year duty assignment. You can imagine how excited I was when they told me I was going to be living in Germany. I have been here for a little over two weeks and have been having a blast. I get along with the guys in my unit and we get to go out and have fun on the weekends. Well one night we went out to a bar for a couple of drinks and they took me to a local Irish bar that they said was a good place to hang out. So me and my buddies walked in there and this (I presume Irish based on her accent) bartender asks what we'll have. My buddies say what they want and I look seeing that the tap only has Guinness and a few other Guinness beers that I can't recall off the top of my head (something to do with flavors). But I am not a dark beer drinker and I can remember the last time I had Guinness (it was a fuzzy memory but I can still remember...most of it anyway). So I ask her, "do you have a Harp?" because I do like Harp Lager and I knew it was owned by Guinness so why wouldn't this Irish pub have it? Her response to me was "no, sorry you aren't in America anymore." I was so confused. Harp is an Irish beer! Right? So my question, especially to any Irishmen in this forum, is it an "American" thing to order a Harp in an Irish pub?
  11. I use EZCA and would highly recommend it. It is very customize-able, I tend to have very subtle dynamic head movement because I don't like having my view jostled around when landing or taxing. I will tell you though that no matter what 3rd party software you use for cameras it will not fix the drifting issue; Mike Tabbs from PMDG even mentioned it in a thread at one point and stated that it was in one of the PMDG manuals (the front of the T7 manual if I remember correctly). I have to reset my camera position every so often even with EZCA, the nice part about that is it is really easy to do in EZCA so it only takes me a second or two.
  12. Not to bring this thread too off topic but, I own both the Quality Wings 757 and Captain Sim 757 and I enjoy certain things about each of them. The Quality Wings 757 is very stable, less expensive (you get the 200/300/F all in one package for one price), and comes with options such as the traditional panel or the retro-fitted glass panel. However the areas I feel it lacks in are VC graphics, system depth (it is supposed to be a mostly lite aircraft), and sound. Considering how old it is and how it is a "lite" aircraft it is still very nice. The Captain Sim on the other hand has a much nicer VC and a little more system depth (not PMDG or Majestic quality but more than the QW). It does have its bugs and the night lighting in the VC sucks, a lot of people talk s**t about CS but I find them bearable until someone comes up with a better 757 especially if you wait until their 9.99 sale (which is the only time I buy any CS products). The 757 and 767 are my favorite aircraft so I have to settle for something because not flying my favorite aircraft is not an option.
  13. Dang, now I just need to get my PC to Germany. I have been waiting almost a year to fly it, military needs to ship my stuff faster!
  14. I just built a new computer with the 4790k and a GTX 780TI Classified edition, and while I did see a noticeable improvement from my previous system (an older intel quad core with a GTX560) it wasn't a huge improvement. However I was only home on leave for two weeks so I didn't have too much time to mess around and try which tweaks I needed for my FSX. I will caution you about the new 4790k chip though. I (and apparently a few other people) have had overheating issues with it. Again, I was only home for two weeks so I didn't have enough time to investigate into the issue but before I left I installed an aftermarket heatsink fan and that seemed to solve the issue however I only got to test it for about four days. When I left I still had issues with my PC freezing while playing flight sim but this time I don't think it was related to the chip overheating. I would say that you current system is more than enough for FSX and the only reason I went with such a powerful system is because I play games besides flight sim on my PC that would benefit from that hardware.
  15. I've only used the trail version of Avilasoft EFB but I think the answer to your question would be no.
  16. Wait so is this a QW project!? Lol, just kidding.
  17. And I want to be able to see each individual Gummy Bear inside the bag because they have clear bags. Oh! And I want to be able to purchase the bag of Gummy Bears and watch my virtual pilot eat them because my virtual pilot often gets a sweet tooth.
  18. I think it is the only trainer I don't own for FSX. How does it compare to the Milviz T-38 Talon? I have the T-38 and it is really nice. I also own the Razbam T-2 Buckeye which was the Navy's carrier capable jet trainer until it was replaced by the T-45 Goshawk and it is one of my favorite Razbam aircraft.
  19. Well with A2A having their sale maybe that helps you make a decision?
  20. I like how the Delta flight was taxing however the title at the top says "Delta pilot lands on the wrong runway".
  21. This has been in the works for awhile now, glad to see its coming along nicely though.
  22. Well personally I would go with the 777X but that is because I am slightly biased towards PMDG aircraft. I have the T7 and it is an amazing aircraft. I haven't flown the Concorde X but I hear it is very nice. And while the B17 isn't really my style A2A makes some excellent addons. Not really helpful I know but you chose some excellent addons to pick from I guess it just depends what kind of flying you are interested in at the moment.
  23. I just built my setup last week and I have the 4790k as well. I am currently sorting out a problem with overheating and while I have not confirmed that I have solved the issue yet (I'm giving it a couple more days to see how it runs) I believe the stock CPU fan that the chip comes with is inadequate for the 4790k. I had an issue with overheating and after testing different things I ended up going down to the local computer parts store and buying an upgraded heatsink fan which I installed two days ago now and so far it has solved the issue, I'm still waiting a couple more days before I can confidently say that the issue has been solved though. Here is a link to the thread I started on the issue if you are interested in reading. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/447678-computer-freezing-and-making-loud-buzzing-noise/#entry3043401
