  1. Would it be unfair to surmise that you might be falling inside the bounds of your own categorisation here? I have to agree with this. It is no more than your own personal assumption Dillon that ego played any part, I imagine it's not an accusation that could easily be substantiated though perhaps I'm mistaken. If there are instances of egotistical assertion then I would suggest that you are a capable match for them.
  2. The Saitek yoke is both good and reliable but the throttle that comes with it is made with bad potentiometers and eventually starts to get more and more random spiking which eventually means it needs replacing.
  3. Really it has only just dawned on me having read that, that my TIR never works off the bat, I have to start it through the pilot view plugin. Never thought to check out why because it works that way.
  4. I suspect that the announcement that we may have been presuming would come during E3 because of the probably coincidental timing may not actually come to pass. I hope Tom hasn't jumped the gun; looking at you Tom  ! I really hope I'm wrong though.
  5. LOL, this is where I miss the like button and the funny button. It's a pity we couldn't have like without dislike, ah well. I'm well into my fifth beer and I'm practically bulletproof :drinks: fecal matter at the ready. Yeah maybe it's always been this way and I've been looking through rose tinted beer goggles. I dunno, people are strange! Anyhoo, sorry for going off topic.
  6. I've got to admit that after several days of following this thread I've come to not care who bought it because as yet, it's simply not something that will affect any of us one way or the other for some, probably considerable, amount of time. The only conclusion that can reasonably be drawn from this thread and others is that simming is something we all seem to be more passionate about than perhaps we should be :Just Kidding:. I'm not on Avsim that long but it seems to me from what I've seen that we could reasonably be considered a bunch of hard to please cranky old gits  . Now I say this meaning no offence to anyone! It seems that the FS market has become more fragmentend over time with people taking genuine offence to each other rather easily as each is drawn into a my sim your sim kind of position. Personally I think that adopting a position behind one sim or the other to the exclusion of the idea that other sims have anything to offer is a rather narrow perspective to be drawn into. Now I do understand the compulsion to stand behind a given sim having a direct correlation to how much money and effort you may have invested in said sim but sweet jebus we do a lot of bickering for men and women who should at this stage know better. :Peace: I just think we could probably all try a bit harder to foster a sense of community and less hard to score points off each other. Again this is directed at nobody in particular, just a commentary on what we all know at this stage of our varied lives. I do pose the question though, am I the only one who thinks this way? (Wouldn't be a first)
  7. Yeah TrackIR is great, especially if you are doing heli flights, it really increases your situational awareness, plus you can do things like this; some people don't like the fact that you can look outside the cockpit but I think it's a plus. This is from 10.30b3 so keep at it avhpilot, you will get on top of it.
  8. Good advice, I didn't realise there was a lower profile option to go with though tbh I've not had problems yet at least, I just OC with the multiplyer also. Thank you kindly Sir.
  9. None taken, it's not everyones cuppa. I wasn't either until I realised I could see sheep in the fields and their shadows from just above tree height. If you zoom in on Bing maps to the point where you can't zoom in any further without the image starting to degrade, that's what you get, it's a VFR lovers dream. Imagine that with autogen on top. I was sold anyway. Each to his own though.
  10. Given these two Mega Airport London Heathrow VFR Real Scenery Wales, Central and Eastern England in your list I'm assuming that's where in the world you probably are which means that you could spend a lot less to get a lot more if that's where you like to fly. I'm just across the water from you if that's where you are and I recently ditched FSX and P3d in favour of X-Plane 10 because I can download for free the photographic scenery for Ireland and the UK at resolutions not possible to get in FSX (I'm midway through UK) for XP and place realistically placed autogen on top of that to produce some stunning simming. It's just a thought, don't want to start a war :Peace: I fly with some guys who I've recently convinced to give it a try and they've been quite happy that they did. No doubt though that your machine can handle FSX with ease but imo, better can be had.
  11. Brilliant!! That's great news. Will be watching this space.
  12. Well there's no disagree button (not that I would use it) so I'll state my belief in print instead of striking impotently at a button. I'm pretty sure Tom is big and ugly enough to stand up for himself and I had assumed that anyone abusing the systems he puts in place would be dealt with in the appropriate manner (of course I had also assumed the system would stay in place so what do I know? ) I do miss the like button though as a way of showing people that their input is watched and appreciated without having to comment but I certainly don't miss its negative counterpart. I think you may be overthinking the conspiracy angle though but then I wasn't paying it that much attention so maybe you are right.
  13. Hey Tom, has anyone come close or even managed to call it right? Surely you can tell us that? Then sit back and grab some popcorn
  14. That whole section is missing entirely for me, I cleared my browser cache but all I see now is the forum such that I would have to navigate into the individual fora to see what's new. The bit where I could see the topics I was part of that have been replied too is gone. Gotta admit it makes it seem like work to go looking for content. Never mind, a few refreshes later and it's back. My bad.
  15. I'll go with Facebook as the ones with deepest pockets buying it to release a flight sim with Oculus as a demonstrator. Surely it would prompt every simmer to buy into Oculus.
  16. Beyond me but good to see that sort of conversation going on. Anything that might integrate with or further the project has got to be a good thing. Hope it works out.
  17. Would it be possible to get hold of that custom config Tony? I've not attempted any customisations yet, would be nice to see an example.
  18. Don't know why people dislike comments like this, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's just an opinion. Nobody is legally bound to one sim or another. I prefer XP and like to support it with my commenting but I do not require anyone to think as I do. Each to their own.

    AVSIM Connection

Same in Ireland, can take up to ten attempts to make a connection in that timeframe.
  20. Have a look at Hardwareversand. Good prices I've found and then do a little research. If you really want best bang for buck, take your time, don't rush into a build based on the throwaway advice of a stranger. With a little patience and care you can get a really good system for what you have to spend. I personally would start with a good case, I cool on air and really believe that with a beefy cooler air is sufficient. I run an overclock of 4.4ghz up from the stock 3.4ghz with no probs. So a case with plenty of fans. Then look at CPU's and cooler. Then board, GFX card and then PSU to match your power requirements. Then fast RAM with low timings, lower is better and drives if you need them but all of this is just what I do. Remember, this advice is free because that's generally what advice is worth, it's no substitute for research.
  21. It's mostly photoscenery done with G2XPL at ZL18. Each tile is around 30 gigs in size but the extra definition you get is well worth the cost of a dedicated drive. I just do the airfields myself as I fly to them if they've not been done already.
  22. When I'm making airfields I use a combination of WED (World Editor manual here) for runway, taxiway and ramp layouts and for positioning those properly, with Overlay Editor for placing objects from the various available libraries or from libraries created from FSX sceneries with FS2XP. Very often I'll have WED and OE open together on separate monitors because OE displays the photoscenery I use in its window which allows me to use WED to move the hard surfaces and check their new position by refreshing OE until I've got it right. Overall the task of scenery creation is really easy once you get the hang of it and for me it's just another aspect of my simming, one where I get to create and see those creations in the sim which is quite satisfying. Mine stands at 610 gigs at the moment Had to get a 3TB drive just to accommodate XP.
