  1. I feel the need to defend myself here. First of all it wasn't my intention to troll and sorry if it came across that way and sorry if I offended anyone with my post. The two day ban certainly made me think about everything. 32 bit architure can only utilise 4gb of RAM so this is going to have an impact on overall performance. Not supporting SLI/Crossfire will also impact performance. It's not uncommon to get double fps rates on a dual card setup. I'm not saying we'll see that in FSX/P3D as it appears to be heavily CPU bound, but it would help nontheless. I admit, the rest is speculation until we can see the code. As far as I'm concerned is though, the proof is in the pudding. And I think by posting a video showing how the CPU is utilised, you would agree looking at the code is not always needed to draw a conclusion. Thank you.
  2. Thanks for sharing! Seems to work just fine in FSX:SE
  3. Nice. Do you use add-on lights for the runway? I'm struggling to get mine to look decent.
  4. The proof is in the FPS, no Crossfire/SLI support and still 32bit. P3D/FSX actually has poor graphics compared to modern games yet we're aiming for 30fps with killer rigs.
  5. I've been an ATI/AMD customer for just over 7 years now (Nvidia prior to that) and I've never had any issues with their drivers. They are rock solid and much better than I ever got with Nvidia. I'm running Crossfire as well which really pushes drivers to the limit. This is for gaming in general, not just FSX. They have a bad rep but those days are long gone. In saying that, the Nvidia 970 is class leading at the moment. That's if you don't mind the fact that it only has 3.5gb VRAM (not 4gb as advertised)
  6. You'll see a Tubo Boost option in your BIOS and is normally on by default. I'm not sure how well this works with FSX though. Turbo Boost only really kicks in if a certain percentage / core usage is reached on the CPU. It's automated and cannot be controlled apart from on/off. Your best bet is to overclock manually.
  7. Fully agree. The code is just not written for modern hardware so cannot utilise it properly. I'm surprised we haven't seen better performance from P3D yet though. They managed to offload some work to the GPU but it's nowhere near modern day standards. It might be a case of too much work to re-do the code from the ground up, which is essentially what's needed. I do seem to get better performance with FSX:SE compared to P3D though but my graphics cards is quite old - AMD 6850 1GB
  8. The i7 4790 (3.6ghz) is locked so you won't be able to overclock it. Better option is i7 4790K which is unlocked and runs at 4ghz stock And you are essentially running 1 x R9 290 as neither FSX or P3D support Crossfire / SLI In fact, if I have Crossfire enabled I lose performance. In saying that, I don't think you'll see much of an improvement, if any, by going for something like the Nvidia 970/980 There are some other threads on this forum comparing cards which you can check out. CPU and tweaking settings should be your main focus.
  9. A seat shaker, now there's something I haven't seen before! Just be careful some of the wav files have loop points that Audacity cannot read or save again so they'll get lost. I noticed this on some of the sounds like the fuel pump and battery switch. Your best option for these is to use a program called Wavosaur
  10. Do you or did you have the FSX box version installed? Your best option might be to ask in the Steam forums or chase Dovetail for an answer. My install didn't require any of those steps but I didn't have the box version installed.
  11. Thanks for the feedback! I ended up running a low pass filter(with a program called Audacity) on the internal engine wav files and it's now much more to my liking
  12. Love these sky textures but I kept the default FSX morning, afternoon and noon textures. They have a deeper blue which I prefer.
  13. Hi Robert. It is a joy flying this aircraft, a true work of art. I'm only just beginning to discover everything it has to offer. A2A does seem to have a headset feature on the C172. Fast forward to 8:51
  14. This explains exactly what I mean with inside vs outside engine sound. It's a third party sounds set, just fast forward to 4:45 I've not flown this plane before though so can't say how much the cockpit is insulated. Does someone have any real world experience? Guessing the internal sound below is emulating a headset but would be nice to have that as an option on the RealAir Duke.
  15. Thanks d33my. Have been playing with the sound levels and seems ok. One would expect the engine noise to be slightly muted inside the cockpit but it sounds like the windows are open. When doing a walk around, standing right next to the engine on the outside is the same volume.
