MSFS 2024 installation management is now "piece-of-cake"....
Thanks for that. its really strange. The folder it moves is the the actual 2020 install files. You can go into XBox settings and to the install location. Then watch the the folder 2020 move back and forth between my 2020 install location and 2024 location by simply changing the install path in the XBox app. Cheers David.

MSFS 2024 installation management is now "piece-of-cake"....
In saying you are reinstalling can you adivse where from. Are you installing from the Windows Store or from within the XBox for PC app? I ask because when installing from the XBox app it asks where you want to install and also moves critical files from my MSFS2020 install into the the new MSFS2024 install folder. I have no idea why it does that other than knowing it does not put the 2020 folder back if I uninstall 2024. Cheers David

Apparently Carenado released another Bonanza
It seems I made a mistake with my purchase of the F33A. Just checking if anyone had the same experience before I speak with Microsoft. Running both 2020 and 2024 versions. See promotion for F33A in the 2020 Marketplace. See in description enhanced for 2024. I buy thinking I can use the plane in both versions of the sim. Open 2024 see dialog box about new 2020 plane available. Go to install and it shows as Permanently Incompatible. I can buy the 2024 version if I want. Had I known this I would have purchased the 2024 version instead to future proof. If this is correct I’ll need to be super carefull with the MP in the future. Cheers David.

Just Flight Turbo Arrow and Warrior coming to MSFS2024
Got my Turbo version from PC Aviator in 2021. They still show version 5.8 available. I know it will take time for JF to pass the 6.2 update to them and for PCA to update. This was pretty much the reason why I only buy through the developer store or rarely, via the Marketplace now. Gotta get the best deal when you can. The USD to AUD exchange rate is a killer plus the 10% GST we sometimes have to pay. David.

MSFS2020 won't exit from task manager
Yes for MSFS2024. Don’t recall a City Update for 2020 though. Could be wrong. Cheers, David

MSFS2020 won't exit from task manager
Can't check as its currently shutting normally for me. During my troubleshooting I uninstalled GSX. When I still had problems after several failed attempts to fix I decided to install GSX again and my next shutdown was normal. There are too many users affected by this that I agree with most this is an Asobo issue. I just fluked it with the GSX reinstall I guess. The right click end task is just another option it seems. Cheers David

MSFS2020 won't exit from task manager
Could be. With Win10 end of life Oct 25 I'm guessing (hoping) most users have or will move to Win11. Just another option. Cheers David

MSFS2020 won't exit from task manager
It seems many are not aware that the "End all tasks" function is available in the right click context menu. This saves a visit to the task manager to do the same thing. It has the same effect as the kill batch file while also being able to kill (close) other problematic tasks. No doubt the fact that this menu item is disabled by default had led to this lack of use. To enable. Click Start, then Settings, then System. On the RHS click "For developers" Turn on "End Task" No reboot required. Next time a program does not close right click its icon in the status bar and click "End task" Cheers David

MSFS 2020 uninstalled itself
Are you using xbox for pc to install/uninstall? The xbox app will relocate critical folders for 2020 when you install 2024. You can actually move the folders simply by changing the install location in xbox settings. A gotcha is if you install 2024 after 2020 then uninstall 2024 your 2020 will not work. You have to go into Xbox install settings and change the install location to match your 2020 install. Very strange behaviour. I’ll add that I have 2020 and 2024 installed on a single 2TB NVME drive in folders called W:\MSFS and W:\MSFS2024. The folder that keeps moving is Microsoft Flight Simulator with content etc.

BeyondATC Released (EA)
Good to know. Thanks. Great joysticks but weird side effects. My system will not sleep with it turned on and I cannot use a Xbox controller at the same time. A powered hub with on/off switch on each port helps to work around these issues.

Introducing Pilot's Deck, a StreamDeck Plugin
Thanks for this Fragtality. Just moved to a TKL keyboard and using my Stream Deck for number pad and many other things. Slowly working through all this and look forward to making the most of the SD with my sims. There is a bunch of new terms mentioned I'll need to get my head around. Thank you.

Motherboard For The Poor
Sticking with the 2500k will severely limit your choice to older 1155 socket motherboards if you can find a decent stockist. My 4790k runs in 1150 socket board and in Aus decent boards are hard to buy. The current 6700k and 7700k due in Jan 2017 use the current 1151 socket. Strongly recommend you try and minimise spending on your current system to second hand parts until you can invest in the Kaby Lake processors early next year along with a new motherboard and DDR4 ram. Good luck. Cheers,

Problem with 777-300ER since WIN10 Anniversary Update
Thank you for the update Dan. I've 7 systems running Win10. My main machine has, since installing the AU, blue screened 3 times in the last week. I'm trying to troubleshoot. When PMDG activation for both my NGX and 777 failed with a very obscure error message I was trying to resolve that issue as I've managed to do with several other minor issues. Now I know more about Flexnet I can move on. Thanks for your help. Cheers,

Problem with 777-300ER since WIN10 Anniversary Update
Thank you Dan, I had figured as much and it is referenced in the manual. I think perhaps my question should have been worded differently as I was really trying to determine why it is always running straight after boot up when it is set for Manual. Perhaps it's being used by another product. Can you tell me if your Flexnet service is always running? I did read a promotional piece from Flexnet that featured PMDG and their desire to combat piracy. This bit is understandable. I'm just not sure why after installing and authentication the service needs to be running if the product/Sim is not in use. Cheers,

Problem with 777-300ER since WIN10 Anniversary Update
Hi Kyle, I had a similar issue solved by reinstalling. I had disabled the Flexnet service until I found what program had installed it and why. I see now that PMDG installed it. Can you provide details as to what it does or point me to a link explaining same. Thank you.

win10 really free ?
The answer is correct. The question was not "what can I get away with" or "how can I interpreted the rules to fit my personal agenda". Good luck to you. Cheers.

win10 really free ?
Yes, as long as your original Win 7 was a retail licence. Here is the section of the EULA for Win10 that I had posted in another thread confirming this Clause 4 b of the EULA states Stand-alone software. If you acquired the software as stand-alone software (and also if you upgraded from software you acquired as stand-alone software), you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software to a device owned by someone else if (i) you are the first licensed user of the software and (ii) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Every time you transfer the software to a new device, you must remove the software from the prior device. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between devices. Cheers,

win10 really free ?
If you upgraded a retail licence of Win7 to Win10 then your upgrade inherits the retail licence benifits. 30 days to go back is correct as you have already upgraded. FYI - Microsoft have now changed the rules for -new- Windows10 upgrades to 10 days to go back.

win10 really free ?
To further clarify. Windows 10 free is "tied" to the device it was installed on. If that device lasts 10 years there is no more to pay. This is the same as if you bought a new computer today with Windows 10 installed. The OEM licence is tied to that device. If is dies so does your licence. If you sell it your licence goes with it. I'm pretty sure this rule has been in effect since Windows was released. A retail version of Windows is different in that you own the licence and can reinstall as often as necessary as long as the product is only installed on 1 computer at a time. The mucky water bit it what happens when you need to replace a failed component on a Windows 10 computer, regardless of whether you got it free via the upgrade promotion or on a new PC. From experience it is absoluted accepted that replacement of a component (other than the motherboard) will not lose your licence. Your activation should not be flagged after such repairs. If there are several components replaced at once or if the motherboard is replaced you might be asked to reactivate. If you are unable to sort this out you will have to call Microsoft. I don't believe this will be an issue with branded PC's like Dell, HP but is more for the home builders. This is pretty much the same as with Windows 7 and previous versions. There is a section under Settings called Privacy. I suggest everyone adjusts these to their own comfort level. Cheers,

What to do with the dusty aircraft in our hangers?
Good post. It's very common in the sound industry to sell a licence. Once permission is obtained from the developer the new owner needs to setup an account on their web site then the original owner requests permission to tranfer the licence to the new account. Adobe allow this to sell, for example, a Photoshop licence. Some firms charge an "admin fee" for the process - extra revenue when normally sales may be stagnent. One sound developer I know charges US$50 for the transfer which is very restrictive - but nonetheless doable. I wonder if this might also help those not paid in USD to buy into products that are considered too expensive when new. I know in Australia it's costing approx 30% more to buy products sold in USD than a couple of years ago so any opportunity to save would be most welcome. Especially when an additional 10% GST starts to be charged to Aussies from July 2017. Developers with older products they have difficulty in moving might be interested. I think many would be suprised that their carefully worded EULA's do not trump the laws in the country in which the product is sold/licenced. It would be very shortsighted to quote an EULA when there is the real possibility of money to be made. An example in the recent case of Steam being rapped over the knuckles and fined for not not allowing refunds and making claims about not permitting refunds contary to Australian consumer law. They had to change policy and as we now know, offer refunds to all. Cheers,

Adding AIRAC Cycle to AivlaSoft
My Navdata and SIDSTARS folder is in this location on my system. C:\Users\David\Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\Navdata\Navigraph FMS Data Using Navigraph FMS Data Manager Choose Addon Mappings. Choose Aivlasoft EFB from the dropdown list. After adding go to the folder on far right and browse to the above Navigraph FMS Data folder. The rule is to finish a level above the Navdata and SIDSTARS folders. Run the update for the entry. Good luck Cheers

Would upgrading from Win 7 -> Win 10 make P3D run better?
OEM's such as Dell are still permitted to include Win 7 Pro until the end of Oct 2016. A link to the MS lifecycle sheet for anyone interested. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet Cheers,

Would upgrading from Win 7 -> Win 10 make P3D run better?
No worries - how about the fact that the EULA says you can. Refer to the Windows 10 Licence Agreement Clause 4 b of the EULA states Stand-alone software. Here is a link to the Supersite article http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-10-upgrade-and-installation-frequently-asked-questions Hope this helps allay your concern. Cheers.

Would upgrading from Win 7 -> Win 10 make P3D run better?
I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. Once you upgrade a retail Win7 to Win 10 you cannot reuse the Win7 licence on another computer. You can however reinstall Windows 10 as needed. The upgrade inherits the original retail benefit. Taken from Win Supersite. "If I purchased my copy of Windows 7 or 8/8.1 as a retail license from a store (brick and mortar or online/digital) and I upgrade to the free Windows 10 can I transfer that to a new computer under the retail licensing? (23 June 2015) YES" Cheers,

Do I have to reinstall my applications/games all over after clean install of Windows 10?
Many Steam games save (sync) with Steam and will remember your saved state. I assumed you backed up your Document folder as other games generally save their state in Documents under their respective publisher/game names. I think you also enjoy X-Plane. Whilst its true that its drag and drop method means you have to do very little to get it running again I did manually delete the entries created in X-Plane by certain installers and then reinsalled them. An example would be having to reinstall X-Aviation purchases. I would try running the Steam games. I think you may find the saves are there. Cheers,
