  1. Yes TerraFlora v2 is a very good option, the best yet. Even more so since they've resolved missing tree textures. The trees look great and there is very high level of coverage that with a few prepar3d.cfg settings can be set to the highest levels.
  2. Hey @charliearon The intent was to show how easy it is to use Steam for the purpose of hosting and posting screenshots. In anycase I thought the rule was no more than 5 if not in the screenshots forum. Additionally you could have left just one given the precendent of those who have also posted screen shots in this thread. Cheers 🙃
  3. I Use Steam as a repository because a user gets 20GB of storage for screen grabs. And Steam upload prep is via SteaScree I just added P3D as a non-steam game to my Steam Library and away we go... Cheers
  4. Pitty, but an org must go where it can use their limited resources to earn where they best can. In all honestly I wasn't even aware they were in development of such aircraft. Cheers
  5. Yes 🙂 a 4000 series with a rumoured 80% more perfomance than a 3000 series. Sounds too good to be true but I hope it is. Cheers
  6. Actually sliders to the left is not going to reduce the GFX ram use in this instance, the majority of use is from customisations in the prepar3d.cfg as well as the custom cloud shader in use. I've terrain textures set at 1024 x1024 via TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 and draw distances of 40000.000000 and 64000.000000. Anyway, it's not about the ram used, it's about maxing out as far as can be achieved, then winding back as needed for smooth perfomance while maximising hardware use. And I wouldn't say P3D is going down the toilet, LM have never publicly stated a release until they release. Yeah it's a bit on the pain side for enthusiasts, but we're not the target market, although doesn't mean that they shouldn't try harder as they still need development support, which no doubt they are getting, only we just don't hear about it. If you can afford to purchase and run one of these @ ~40 million, then you should consider yourself the target market, where you'd also be running image generators with whatever scenery is current plus a ton or two of custom development programming. Otherwise chillout and have a Virtual Beer is what I say, it's never been better for choices. Cheers
  7. No nothing at all is wrong, I'm just running with pretty much maximum settings and then some. Think sliders all the way to the right and many custom settings in the config to drive the display to the max. Like texture size, shadows, autogen and reflections at max config settings beyond the slider limits and a draw distance also beyond that achieveable just via the sliders. All about TTD (Test To Destruction), not literally though 🙂 Just to the point of knowing the max that can be achieved with the current hardware as it helps to learn the limitations for enabling a tighter software to hardware tune. Kinda like a dyno tune. Cheers
  8. There was a time when 12 GB of GFX card memory was considered such a huge amount that it could never be used. Indeed I thought I'd never manage to max it all out yet that's just what's happened. Better start putting the $$ aside for the new 4000 series NVidia cards 😉 Cheers
  9. And thank you gents, I've installed 2 of the 5 purchased. And looking forward to getting the rest up and running (although work and life keeps geting in the way of flight simming). Cheers
  10. A few pics of my recently installed the Porter PC6 from Milviz, bought during their flash sale @ 30% off. Quite a fun plane to fly, and one where you need to be careful with the engine so as to not blow it. I'm liking it 🙂 Cheers Pretty sparten in the back. Lots of nice gauges at the front end.
  11. Heh, cannot say I've ever burned through a CPU as yet and I've overclocked all my CPUs for the past 10 years. In actuality my first overclock was an Amiga 68060 CPU, of course those were Mhz days and an oscillator crystal had to be replaced to overclock, not the Ghz BIOS based OC like we have now. The trick is to not overdo it, keep an eye on the temps while trialling the overclock and gradual is the way. I'm waiting for the new AMD Ryzen 7000 series to drop with their 5.5+ Ghz speeds, not too long to wait now 🙂 Plus the new 4000 series Nvidia GPUs are just around the corner, should be a potent match. Cheers
  12. Interesting topic. I have SMT set as disabled (SMT= the AMD version of HT) as it allows a higher overclock rate while still keeping the temps at a managable level. Given I've 8 cores with SMT off it's no big deal as there are more than enough cores to do the job in this instance. The CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5800x and I have trialled using all 16 cores/threads, different affinity masking and various overclocking levels, where the best result has been SMT=off allowing a higher overclock and subsequently better performance. Yes it's a few points down on CPU benchmarking for apps that drive all cores to max, however for P3D the higher clock speed does equal better performance. CPU overclock tuning involved first running the AMD Ryzen Master CPU utility to understand which were the fastest cores and to also understand the sort of max temps Ryzen Master would push to with safety in mind, which turned out to be 90 degrees C. With the above info I used an affinity mask to put the main thread on core #3 (being the fastest) and then Process Lasso to set P3D to use all cores, result is main thread on fastest core while still using all cores. Then it was a matter of slowly increasing the core speeds and with a slight increase in voltage I've managed to achieve a stable 4.8 Ghz while just touching the max temp on only the very heaviest use occasions. Cooling the CPU is of great importance and I use a Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 which is super quiet while providing fantastic cooling, if it wasn't for the Noctua I certainly would not have been able to achieve the overclock that I have. Cheers
  13. Actually P3D is very much both a heavy user of CPU and GPU. I have a 3080Ti and it's easy to max it out which then results in frame rate loss. In this pic I've maxed the cast shadows (all items ticked) noting the 99% or "maxed" out GPU which resulted in frame rate loss down to 21 fps. Disabling vegetation cast shadows dropped the GPU down to ~76% allowing the frame rate to increase enough to meet the 30 hz vsync I'm using. That is the FPS doesn't go above 30 fps as the monitor hz rate is also 30. At times Cloud Shadows (cast) is the cause and at other times both Veg and Cloud shadows need to be off (Cast), really depends on the weather situation and the time of date as low sun also can equal long complex shadows. Maybe the next gen 4080Ti series will have enough capacity to max settings without also maxing the GPU.
  14. I saw it in Bargain Hunters Shack forum. But you've missed out... It was one day only 30% off all items. Better luck next time. Cheers
  15. So I had in the past purchased a plane from Milviz being the Turbo Otter. Which is quite a nice plane for what it is, although it did take some effort to manage, e.g mistreating the engine would cause it to blow and it was very easy to blow the engine. Essentually flying was not without consequences and whist i was learning just what that meant, there was many a time the engine died and I had to glide into the nearest place to land. Other Milviz planes were enticing, however at the time were quite expensive purchases and due to budget limitations I never bought further. Anyway their dropping of the price by 50% and then another 30% for their trading name change sale ment an easy choice on purchasing. I ended up buying a bunch with the first implementation being the standard DHC-3 Otter. Did the thing I always do and enabled P3D logging just to see what sort of bugs the plane came with. And gauge bugs seemed to be the main ones, not a lot but enough to cause some funny ops and strange intermintant probs. Subsequent affected gauge code review showed the majority being typos like missing spaces and missing or extra brackets, there were also a few dud variables and uncommented left over code snippets, however nothing that wasn't beyond a few quick fixes. Of interest was the code structure was quite clean and easily readable, unlike Carenado's which is messy and includes comments and variables not in the English language. As this was an older plane it didn't have all the nicities of their later releases, e.g lighting is a bit on the FSX side so I added some dynamics. And replaced the default water fx with McCoy types tuning the float contact points to suit (the points were quite out of alignment). And I've been flying around the Western coast of Canada and the Pacific North West taking advantage of the amphibious version's water or runway and it's been a lot of fun. Cheers Has GTN integration and the Milviz weather radar (not compatible with P3D v5). It's a nice looking plane. The landing light illumination appled. Swimming out to the plane.
  16. Just confirming I managed to have both F1 and the RXP GTN's operational concurrently. Took a few trainer databases till I found something Ok with both, this being the 2.6.0.0 version trainer databases. I just worked my way upwards till I had functional F1 and RXP. I do have some later databases I could have trialled however I decided to stop further trialing of DB updates given I'd achieved the goal of having both units operational. Cheers
  17. Yep, or at least using as a base to expand upon. Isn't it all about the votes ? so if enough people voted for a purple sky that's what it would end up with ?
  18. Yep, nothing like giving that really stormy day a repeat just for the experience or fun of it, or that windshear that caused a crash and burn. Cheers
  19. We can also have clouds 🙂 Since LM are not the sharing and caring type given their military and professional status, speculation, hearsay and other interesting tales of adventure are all on the agenda. Cheers
  20. I met this guy where he was building a car racing cockpit and he showed me some of the stuff he was using, carbon fibre steering wheel, inter-changeable steering hubs with different displays and functions, surround monitors, amazing set of pedals and shifter, he was spending a ton of money and it looked pretty good. I guess there are more options overall because car racing is a bigger market with more exposure than flight simming. When it comes to displays though I personally I love popout gauges rather than a 2d panel. Cheers
  21. Yeah I can confirm it, well the very small display in the preview field part at least, it doesn't crash to the desktop in 5.3 for myself. The model is a bit broken and is one of the things I've fixed, could be why it doesn't crash to the desktop for myself. Most of the items offered on the site are flawed in one way or another but suffice to say I liked this one so much I spent the time to find and resolve the issue. Cheers
  22. Alas the dine in Pizza Hut experience is no more... https://www.9news.com.au/national/pizza-hut-marion-last-dine-in-store-in-south-australia-to-close-its-doors-at-the-end-of-june-2022/d3200d00-1c27-4dc1-a78d-2e8f31bbc6b2
  23. Never used GXS. According to those in the link and the author himself, yes it does work in vP3D v5. The author does note specific aircraft where there may already be a custom pushback option should not use his gauge. It's all free so nothing stopping adding the gauge and trialing it out on a single aircraft. Cheers
  24. Having come from a 1070Ti to a 3080Ti I can say the following. I have a 1080P monitor capable of syncing down to 23 Hz and I run a 2560x1440 screen mode @ 30 Hz via NVidia's Dynamic Super Resolution with auto switching to and back from the screen mode using an app named "Display Changer". For myself, being able to maintain 30hz vsync is important in order to maintain smooth fluid flying, and that means being able to maintain an actual P3D frame rate of 30 fps + 10% min i.e. 33 fps. And by fluid i mean like this Vid example where I'm flying the A2A Commanche The 1070Ti provided for the following @ a 30 Hz vsync. I was able to fairly significantly and reliably overclock the 1070Ti GPU and its ram speed, the 3080Ti is the opposite as it appears to be already set at the max it can reliably handle. With my 1070Ti, 2 x SSAA, Medium / Low autogen draw distance, no cast vegetation shadows, no cast terrain shadows and at times no cast cloud shadows, low reflections, volumetric fog disabled, minimal cloud distance and shader otpions. Most other settings were fairly maxed though, it's just anything more than the above graphical settings tended to drive the GPU to 98%+, which in P3D does result in a drop in frames and I would thus loose my very smooth 30Hz vsync. With the 3080Ti it's possible to have everything graphical in the UI enabled and at max in ideal clear sky conditions. For general use it's slightly tuned down settings wise, e.g. 4 x SSAA, no volumetric fog, Dynamic Reflections @ High and Autogen and scenary draw distance @ High, plus I use some custom cloud shaders that put about a 10 to 25% additional load on the GPU. So does the 3080Ti allow for maximum settings of everything... that would be a no... as I can still easily drive it to 98%+ and have resulting frame drops. Is it a great card anyway, yep and I've never had a more fluid experience with near maximum settings. Has the card cost come down, absolutely, when I bought the 1070Ti it was $799.00 and I lamented I could not afford the 1080ti which at the time was $1799.00. Now I see 3080Ti's for $1449.00 AU and the highest price is $1999.00 AU, given inflation this makes the 3080Ti a great buy and actually more affordable than the 1080Ti in the past. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/geforcertx3080ti?page=1 So either there is a glut of cards, or dealers are trying to clear stock prior to a new card release such as the rumoured 4080Ti series with an also rumoured up to 80% more performance, which if true would mean I could run every graphical option at max 🙂 Cheers
