  1. This is a subjective issue. People base their opinions on past experience, either in other sims or real world flight. Problem is most non-pilots and even some actual pilots will never get to fly in situations where strong/severe turbulence is an issue (where I live, for example, no one generally flies when there is a strong wind off the mountains, other than to depart for somewhere else as fast as possible, and you certainly would never take passengers up for a joy flight with wind from that direction). Even if they have experienced strong turbulence, it is likely in a tube-liner.
  2. Get a powered hub with switchable ports. That way you can hit the button to disable the USB and enable it again later without all that plugging and unplugging. Something like this:
  3. Well that is one one real world technique you can practice in MSFS , transfer your current attitude and bank to the outside view versus the horizon and then hold your/turn/climb/descent/level flight without looking at the instruments, even turning them off in a glass cockpit. Of course once you do that in MSFS, suddenly stuff like holding straight and level suddenly becomes much easier - just like in real life - what a surprise. The other huge issue sim pilots suffer from in real life training is lazy feet.
  4. Never flown the default TBM 930 - it looked mind numbingly boring I am afraid.
  5. To be perfectly honest a new student is better off getting off the sim and diving into the books and brushing up air law and basic aeronautical knowledge and weather and all the other stuff they are going to need to know.
  6. I believe they are based in Russia so coms may be tricky at present.
  7. Sometimes it saves, sometimes not. There is probably a pattern to it but no idea what.
  8. The TLDR on this is, it is worth it - IF and ONLY IF - you are actually going to fly the planes. (the bonus airports are OK but nothing to write home about ) Early on, when we had a limited choice of planes in the sim, premium/deluxe was well worth the extra money. Even if you only flew one or two of the 10 aircraft, it was a bargain. Currently, some of the included planes have been upgraded, and others form the base for addons like the WB-Sim 172 and Black Square Baron BUT there is also an awful lot more other aircraft available to users now. Still worth it ? Probably, but really depends on the user and what they fly.
  9. There are external NVME about which on a USB 3.2 or Firewire bus are pretty fast, but my experience with them is they tend to overheat on sustained writes, generally the cases are not up to dissipating the heat. Though for MSFS use you are unlikely to strike issues. Just be aware some (most?) external NVME can be problematic if you are using them to do stuff like back up an entire hard disk.
  10. Do not forget the Pipistrel Virus - totally under-rated hidden gem of a plane. Great visibility with the transparent doors and high wing, good cruise speed (about 20 odd knots faster than a 172) has a CSU and with the air brake even does a reasonable job of short field landings.
  11. There may be a few issues with switch mapping apparently.
  12. I think they moved here for some reason. https://www.facebook.com/groups/virtual737course My guess is, they probably were getting spammed by people threatening to report them to the FAA or some such nonsense. I was reading somewhere there are YouTube trolls who sift through aviation videos looking for supposed infractions they can report to the FAA and the FAA is obliged to investigate every complaint no matter how silly or trivial.
  13. 2020 is infamous for needing the CPU and GPU load to be relatively balanced so neither goes into idle states. Perhaps your GPU was under utilised and increasing the work load brought things more into balance.
  14. For me, it is nudging into 850 HP mode without backing off first - it shoots all the way up to 130%

  16. Yeah if you are using the full checklist you are supposed to check them which is hard to do if not animated 😄 Good news is, they are working on that and it may even make the next update.
  17. Also - if you are using pedals, double check you do not have a brake pedal partially stuck on.
  18. If you spawn in a new livery cold and dark it will spawn you with chocks and tiedowns. You may wish to remove them.
  19. There are a few issues with the TBM that come down to the fact they implemented the exact real world electrical system which has stuff like two separate pitot heat circuits and I believe something like a split Avionics system which is going to have issues with addon controllers that are configured for a much simpler system. Interestingly the TBM only has a few minor issues with my Logitech switch gear but the Comanche does insane stuff with random switches turning on and off all over the place. Another example of this sort of issue is aircraft with a single switch for Master Battery and Master Alternator such as the c140 and c170. These planes can get really confused by controllers that are wired for two separate switches.

  21. The Wilga with doors removed (one click to get the doors off) has great visibility. Yo can also paddle the float version about on the water after you land 😄
  22. I think there was more realistic haze when MSFS first came out and it was toned down because it did not look good in screenshots. The Disney Fairy Land night lighting is the same, totally unrealistic with street lamps on every backwoods dirt track - but it makes for good screen shots. A big part of the issue is what people view as "realistic" is based on oversaturated, over sharpened wallpaper landscape photos, not real life. With regard to HDR being over saturated there are config file settings you can edit to change sharpening and saturation that might help.
  23. +1 on the Bronco, fun and pretty good for freeware. Cockpit viz is fantastic. You can find it here: https://flightsim.to/file/61093/north-american-rockwell-ov-10-bronco
  24. Overall HDR is better for me in MSFS. My issues with HDR are when NOT in MSFS, things like chrome windows occasionally are washed out and hard to read, no matter what win10 HDR settings I use.
  25. The change was meant to fix the issue where it worked fine up to a certain number of flights/hours, after which it would get stuck and never add any new flights.
