  1. I use the Internet Download Manager (IDM) program to download just about everything. Should I use it for the initial MSFS 2020 download? From researching the MSFS download and install process, it looks like IDM would interfere with the unique way that MSFS is downloaded and installed. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
  2. I haven't gotten a reply yet from @RTX, but it is the holiday and a lot of people are traveling... I rebuilt me computer recently and just upgraded to XP12. So far I have not been able to get my version of the GTN650 to load. Does anyone know if I need to purchase a new version or if there is an update I can get someplace? Or is there just something I'm missing in the installation that will not let me load into XP12. Thx
  3. I ORIGINALLY POSTED THIS IN THE "RXP Flight Sim (P3D I FSX) DIRECTORY. NOW MOVED TO HERE AS MORE APPROPRIATE. I purchased RealityXP's GNS530w/430w for FSX yesterday from Flight1, downloaded the software and installed. When I launched FSX running Carenado's Piper Malibu JetProp, the Add-On for RealityXP was right there as expected and I configured that aircraft to replace the native GNS 530/430s with the RXP gauges in the panel. The Add-On window seemed intuitive and easy to use. However, after running the RXP configuration, FSX re-launched, and the original 530 (I think, because it said "GNS 530" on the upper right corner) was still in the panel and the RXP 530w was in a separate floating window (which showed "RXP 530w", I think), which showed up when I clicked on the original 530. I couldn't seem to dock the RXP 530w into the GNS 530 spot in the panel. The 430 was similar, except that I couldn't turn on the RXP 430w! Only could turn on the original GNS430. I tried reverting to the original gauges (which worked fine) and then reconfiguring. Still didn't work, and then I started getting a message that the RXP 530w I had an "Invalid License" and that I should contact "Vendor". So I completely uninstalled RealityXP's 530w/430w, and then reinstalled. Still no luck. Now it says "RealityXP Software Expired or Invalid" on the undocked RXP 530w window. Well, I tried Flight1, but they have no technical support and referred me to the Avsim Forum. As far as I could find online, there is no way to contact RealityXP itself. I would very much like get it working. Any advice would be most appreciated! Thank you, JD
  4. Since Prepar3D v3 add-ons should be made to install outside of the P3D folder structure, preferably in the folder of choice of the user. An xml file in the My Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons folder is all that P3D need to make it work in the simulator. Now, for some reason, some developers continue to make life miserable for the user by ignoring good practice by making a mess of the main P3D folders with completely unnecessary negative side effects. Many developers have been graciously awarding us with P3Dv3 and v4 upgrades, only to stumble on the finish line by providing us with poor install routines. So what can be gained by following the prefered method of install add-ons outside of the main P3D folders? Here are some of the benefits: In theory you can uninstall and delete the P3D folders without deleting the add-ons, hence making a clean reinstall simple and easy. When a new install of P3D is in place it will look up all the addons in the My Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons folder and you’re back up and running WITH NO NEED TO REINSTALL THE ADD-ONS ALSO! Of course there are some exceptions to the rule, but stuff like aircraft, AI traffic, avatars etc. will have zero issues with this method. You can delete an addon by simply deleting the folder where YOU chose to install it and the folder containing the xml file in the My Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons folder. No need to track down files scattered all over the place… As most of us have experience, even those add-ons containing uninstallers can mess up or miss files that should have been deleted. You can spread your add-ons over as many drives as you like with zero fuzz. We all know that with a lot of scenery the hard drive containing P3D fills up fast – even worse if you have a few more sims installed as well. It is a nice to have add-ons that are compatible with more than one version of the sim gathered in one place. You have too many aircraft or AI aircraft installed? Just move the folders from the My Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons folder into a temporary folder. When you need them again, it's a simple drag and drop, no need to go through tedious install processes again, find those passwords and go through online license checks. Last, but not least – It lets the user have full control over where files are stored on their own computer. I’ve been slowly adapting to P3Dv4 since my P3Dv3 runs great with everything installed and tuned to perfection. However, I can’t escape the VAS issue, so over the last few weeks I’ve slowly started to install P3Dv4 add-ons side by side. ORBX is in place, and sadly they don’t use the external approach. However I know scenery is a bit more complicated to install, so I will leave them out of the rant for now. The first aircraft I bought for P3Dv4 was the A2A T-6 Texan Accusim. It did just as it was supposed to do and put all the files in the add-on folder, although I wish I could have selected another external folder for everything but the xml file entry. I was also eager to try out the new Ultimate Traffic offering, UT Live. Flight1 has obvisouly both gotten the memo and read it. UT Live installed right where I wanted it to! HiFiSim’s Active Sky 2016 and REX Soft Clouds play nice too. Sadly JustFlight and Carenado were big disappointments. My JustFlight Chipmunks and Carenado C208B Grand Caravan used the old “FSX-method” and messed up my nice and tidy P3Dv4 folders…
  5. I see a lot of threads on the new version. I am going to need this for when FSL releases their fix. I was wondering if there is a step by step guide for installing 4.2 so I don't lose any of my scenery, AS, ORBX, etc. without having to do a complete refresh. Can someone point me in the right direction?
  6. I tried to download the PMDG MD-11 this morning. I started the installer and opened the wizard it then came up with the error "unable to locate fsx.exe. Unable to install. I am not sure if this is my fault as I downloaded FSX to a different loaction then moved it back to the default loaction if this has confused the installer. Is there anyway to manually "guide" it to FSX.exe?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Scott
  7. So I finally got the MCP from Opencockpits (v3, no box, Honeywell with backlight). I thought that this 'Plug and Play' product would be that, more or less. 3 hrs in, still scratching my head. This is for use with PMDG NGX in FSX. I understand that I need the connecting interface, SIOC, by the manufacturer, but there's another plugin required in order for it to communicate with PMDG. And this far I've only found this thing called OC4BA. The software is roughly 50€!!! I'm not in the financial mood to spend that at the moment.. There's a freeware version, but it is said not to work with the latest version of NGX. If anyone here use these products together, please let me know how to set it up in the easiest way. I've found a few tutorials like this one: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?259000-Opencockpits-and-PMDG Which ALMOST takes me all the way, but there's always ONE link to a program I need to download which is dead, stopping me.. At the moment I have come as far as changing the SIOC.ini, that's about it. :( Any help here is greatly appreciated. Cheers, /Johan
  8. I bought yesterday the RXP GTN 750/650 TOUCH, and so far I'm not at all able to install, I did the complete installation, but I can not use the GPS, I registered, I did the installation, I did everything ... ... I can not attach the Garmin GPS to the panel of my aircraft, even if I can not install it in my aircraft, it is like a floating screen, but it is OFF ... my name appears on the GPS screen, I click on continue, but nothing happens... ! Please, can someone help me ? I beg !
  9. Could someone please tell me how long it should take to install the premium boxed edition? I am a small way into Disc#1 and it's take nearly an hour! Thanks in advance. David
  10. Is there a Traffic Add-on for P3D V4, than one can just install without having to do a lot of tweaks? I am not that computer savvy when it comes to the real technical stuff. Would like to have a good add on that I can just install and use. Thank you
