November 10, 200916 yr Author Why do you all blame Microsoft for the FSX disaster. Early in this decade Microsoft and IBM designed a PowerPC chip that's found in the Xbox360 with a memory controller on the die and released it at the end of 2005. What's so hard to understand that Intel refused to do the same until just last year, 2008. That's 5 years lead time it's not like Microsoft kept their design a secret... so please don't equate the FSX problem Microsoft had to Air Simmer. As it stands this plane has no functional FLIGHT DIRECTOR or any automation for that matter. The only way to fly this thing is by hand and even that shows the weakness in the FBW system. Like one of the above posters said... you all still have your hopes up, even though we now know exactly what Air Simmer means by "no comprimise"It's statements like this that fan flames. It's false to say this bird has no automation as I've done more than few flights from beginning to end with this bird (ILS approaches included). Some seem to to enjoy gathering in packs when they smell blood. As far as Microsoft/FSX is concerned, the sim was created on the most stable version of windows to date (Windows XP). There is absolutely no excuse concerning FSX and whatever IBM analogy your coming up with... If your example had any validity Microsoft wouldn't have figured out how to get any of their products to run with reasonable success on IBM compatible machines over the years. Microsoft wouldn't be Microsoft as we know it.... In the confines of Flight Simulator there's a 20+ year history pre FSX. FS9, FS2k2, FS98 ran great on my machines with various versions of Windows on IBM compatible machines. I don't see how the lack of vision on the part of a team (who's in the loop IT wise) not to know Dual Core was the way the Hardware market was going versus single core can be justified but there's those of us who will do it. The's no excuss for FSX but Aerosimmer's product can be fixed and improved upon...Hey Les, I too have purchased it late Sunday but haven't had time to test much. I second your mini review and look forward to more testing and learning this potentially great add-on.I did want to check if you've had permanent success avoiding CTD's by converting the vc textures (or did you convert all textures) to DXT3? Cheers,PeteThe CTD's are caused by the gauges it seems. Textures have no effect outside of improving framerates and texture loading... What in the world would you know about the Basic edition unless you bought that too.. and that begs the question why would someone who already paid 55 dollars pay another $40 for a version with less features. This points to the obvious... you guys have no clue what you're talking about when it comes to what was actually released. And even if you did purchase it, anyone who would throw money around like that obviously is just a a really excited user..Case closed...
November 11, 200916 yr dilloll0,Thanks so much for this and the begining post about the new AirSimmer A320. I do find you view to be very balanced and refreshing. I've decided to give AirSimmer's A320 a try next pay check. It will complete my ANA fleet. :( I feel like AirSimmer is becomming the new Captain Sim. :( I've found Captain Sim's 757 to be perfect to what I've wanted from it. So if this holds true then Air Simmer's A320 should be a great experience over all. ...1. Great you made your point...2. Help me find it...3. No one never said just the overhead I'm talking about the whole VC. I'm not going to waste my time going over everything those that own the A320 and the 737NG know there's many switches in the VC on the older model that just don't work.4. Maybe I've missing something all these years but I'd like to know the switch in the 737NG VC that brightens and darken the displays. During dusk/dawn the displays in the 737NG don't lite up until all VC lighting comes up with FS9's timed lighting. If you look at add-ons like Feelthere's 737 the screens have their own luminance no matter what time of the day it is making the ability to read then easy at times like dawn/dusk before all other lights come up in Flight Simulator. I know you know there's periods right before night time where the VC can be very dark especially if you don't have a dome light. The 737NG has a dome light feature that in essence brightens up the VC as if it departed from reality (I won't elaborate as most know what I'm talking about).5. I forgot about that feature your right.6. Adjustable seats can be argued one way or another who cares the main thing I was trying to say is you don't had toddler sized seats in the cockpit of the A320 like what's found in the 737NG. The size of the seats in the 737NG was totally wrong as they were smaller than they should have been (yes I've been in the real bird).7. At least we agree on something...Again (AGAIN), the 737NG like you've stated is a seven year old add-on and not worth flat out comparing with a new model. We all have the 737NG but this angst against the Airsimmer A320 is foolish for those that don't even have the product. I can see being mad about the handling of it but to flat our rebuke it when you don't own it or really know nothing about it is insane. That more than anything prompted me to buy the bird before I let myself fall into this trap. Hopefully Airsimmer fixes all that's wrong with this add-on and releases the Advanced model because I'd love to see many around here eat their words.8. I almost forgot to mention that the 737NG was released with some crappy loud internal sounds. I currently use Des Braban's sound set located here on Avsim which is outstanding. Airsimmer by contrast was released with an outstanding sound set which stands for where things are today with the quality of our add-ons all around. The new trend of sound set's really took off with Level-D's modeling of the actual cockpit environment. Before sounds were created as if one was sitting in the cabin on top of the engines. So the seven year time frame between these two add-ons has been good and like I said to even call up PMDG's seven year old model is a testimate to how great it was/is...I've pulled this post out of the thread to focus on #2 and #4 because I want to voice my feeling on them as well.2. Opinion: I'm a everyday user of the PMDG 737NG and I to have yet get the push back to work. :( I pretty sure I could get dig into the keyboard command list and figure it out, but that is work I choose not to do. I just use Aerosoft's AES pushback for this task now. Shift+P isn't doing a good job anymore.4. I to have experienced this problem on several occasions. As you dilloll0 I'm also a VC only pilot. When this situation comes up I have to switch to the 2D panel till the internal lights come on and fix the problem. At time I have a hard time seeing the LCD panels if I don't increase my TV's brightness. I would like to see a brightness setting for the 737's LCD panels. Just a weird thing about it, but I still love it. Derek RogersPC Specs: Intel i7-4790K 4.6GHz : 16GB RAM : GTX 970 4GB

November 11, 200916 yr Everybody just take a deep breath.......it's just a sim/game.True, but it's also a financial investment for those who purchase it. I'd say they have a right to feel peeved if their investment turns out to be a waste of money. I'd love to see the data on how many requested refunds once it was made clear there would be no upgrade to the Advanced Edition. Massive blunder from AirSimmer if you ask me. Matthew Bellette

Massive blunder from AirSimmer if you ask me.You're not going to get a big argument out of me on that one. I too am disappointed in this release. As a former 319 driver I have been anxiously awaiting this offering, and wasn't particularly pleased with the initial results. But the one constant comment I hear that stands true is that nobody is forced to buy this product. If $40 is a very significant amount of money to someone, than perhaps it could be better spent on something else. If anyone felt duped into buying this product, than get a refund. I would also like to see that data. I don't think this was a great start for AirSimmer, but the negative comments are getting repetative just as much as the a really excited user. November 11, 200916 yr a really excited user is getting old, that's for sure. I think it's a shame what's happening to AS. They have a good basis for making a solid product. If only they had not rushed to release the Basic Edition and had more carefully considered their business strategy and pricing policy. If they'd done that and just slowed down, I don't think they'd have caused such a disaster for themselves. I hope they can turn things around, but recent comments from them don't look promising.Edit: One more thing - it's an even bigger shame this has happened because the MSFS community has been crying out for a PMDG-quality Airbus for years. November 11, 200916 yr Well I've been reading the Aerosoft forums as that's obviously the next place too look for an Airbus. They are saying two things... the product they will be releasing shortly for FSX is for the mass market. Very simplified, yet has the FBW, except no real advanced systems in the FMC. Not even Navigraph support. However, they state that there is actually a second phase to the project and was commissioned to provide a highly sophisticated version of the same airbus for an unnamed customer. What they're also hinting at is that they retain the rights to sell this version of the product to the FSX market as well.Sounds familiar I know... but Aerosoft does have an advanced products division..
November 11, 200916 yr What are "ornithological corporate rules"? Are they for the birds? That was "orthological" wrongly corrected by Google. I could use the word "rational" but there is a small difference in the meaning so I preferred to "adapt" a Greek word. Nevertheless, back to the topic, I still have to see a full flight review of the product. I would prefer something more structured than bits and pieces. So I will try to "remember" a typical flight with my beloved PSS and I will try to outline step by step. I would love is someone could "tick" the boxes that apply to the Airsimmer one so that I can appreciate the new "toy" and establish a minimum "expectations" level from my point of view:1. Batteries ON -> Y/N?2. External power1. Access CDU2. Init Screen to enter Dep and Dest and Alt. Cost index? /Flight Level?3. Access Flight Plan page4. Input way point. They should appear on the Plan Page of the "HSI" (pardon my terminology) in yellow and become green once INS is confirmed5. Select Dep and Arrical airports to set SID/STAR along with runway and transition alt.6. Once completed the "HSI" should display TOC, TOD, magenda point (on the STAR part) and the Flight Plan page to have filled in alt containers based on the SIDs/STARS. 7. Ability to edit constrains by selecting way points and altering Alt and speed via the keypad8. Access Performance page and input V speeds9. Access CLB, CRZ, DES pages and altering speeds1. APU On sequence? -> Y/N2. Apu Bleed On -> Y/N?3. Left (or Right) pack On -> Y/N?4. Apu Gen On -> Y/N?5. Startup the left engine6. Bleeds as required -> Y/N7. Startup the right engine8. Gens on.1. Throttle gate 1-50% for taxi2. Speed in managed mode (push in the button) display ---o3. Dial initial FL and push the button in4. HDB in managed mode - display ---o5. Line up and proceed throttle to FLEX or TOGA6. ND display SRC 7. After Rotate +500 AGL press Ap1Now, in PSS you may get at this point some unrealistic climb rates but if you are careful and fly a little bit more by hand trying to capture the Flight Director, the incident may not occur. The question here is IF the new bird demonstrates the same habits OR it simply does not either because it is excellent or because you must dial manually the climb rate on the FDU.1. ND notifies you about Climb Gate on the throttle2. Aircraft adheres to the constrains entered to the Flight Plan. There are a few issues here on what "adhere" is. If for example you go OVER a constrain manually some FS models have the tendency to dive for ever. Some other to level off and some other loose it all together. What is Airsimmers attitude?Let's play with the FCU:1. Can I switch between Managed and command speed? How does it behave?2. Can I switch between Managed and Commanded Heading?3. If I press the V/S does it level off? And the opposite, does it resume Climb/Descent on a predefined rate?4. If I press the Alt does is resume the Climb/Descent profile?During Flight:1. Can I see the progress page of the CDU? Fuel Estimate?2. Step Climb?Descent:1. Am I notified that I passed the TOD?2. Do I need to dial a new FL on the Alt and PRESS to engage it?3. What about notification about "More Drag"?Approach:1. Do I need to get into Approach Phase? Is it engaged automatically once I pass over the magenta point?2. Does the speed follows the flaps settings3. Is there an APP page where I can set QNH etc?Ok, these are enough for now. Please note that I am looking for a minimal operation's denominator and not for an in depth "airbus firmware" discussion. I am sure that somebody can fly manually without relaying on "magenta points" and "TOC/TOD" calculations. However I am not interested into a discussion along the line "whether you need these automation or not". Let's put it differently, I want to pay for the automations even If I never use them. If there are no automations, I can fly my PSS manually and in semiautomatic.RegardsYiannis
November 11, 200916 yr The bus has amazing potential when it works. I finally completed my First flight after many many ctd's. I will say that when it works, it is great! And when they get all the bugs worked out, this will be a fine piece of art. That says it all really. Gerry Howard

I agree. I also hope that Airsimmer can come out of this and somehow pull out of this PR disaster. From what I have seen so far and if the CTD's people are talking about can be ironed out soon then they have a great product on their hands. It must be a very complex piece of programming for something so difficult to model. I genuinely hope it works out for Airsimmer.Rhydian
