HelloI would like to second that. The sky textures in sl-real-sky-pro-edition are some of the best I have seen, Sandon has a great eye for colour.Whatever happened to him, is he stlll around?

REX weather engine can choose textures and visibility setting based on weather conditions if I understood it correctly. Isn't that a unique advantage over Active Sky weather engine?

No its certainly isn't unique ASA already does it with its 'snapshots' and you aren't limited to just REX textures either, you can make your snapshots from any texture replacement product you care to think of including REX if you wanted.

Cheers, Andy.

HelloASA can do this for any texture sets you have installed, even REX textures using its graphic snapshot featureAS6 integrates with Ground environment pro so that it can use clouds from its own Active Sky Graphics pack and sky sets from Ground environment proGround environment pro can then choose ground textures to match the weather data it receives for AS6.No unique advantages in REX , the Active Sky series has been doing this for a long time.I have REX 2 for FSX , both of the above Active Sky products and also ASXWhat do I use the most for weather?FSMeteo Version 8 :(
Hi Guy's.Well, this morning before I went to work I was all for buying this as soon as I got home, but now after reading this post, and the ones in the other thread I am having second thoughts. For example, I do use GE Pro as well as ASv 6.5, I also use FE.If I want to have timed weather up-dates rather than this circle / radius up date thing, then I just un-check a box in REX to enable ASv to set and up-date the weather. Then I do like the GE Pro ground textures as I feel that they are great, especially the desert and rural areas and the night texture sets as well. Then there is the point about the flight planner. For example, I can create a Flight Plan in FS Nav and export it to anywhere from FS9 itself to either PMDG, PSS, or SB4 etc, I'm not sure if REX will do this.If it doesn't, and as with some of the other points I mentioned above, then all I would really be gaining from REX is cloud texture sets! This seems rather an expensive way of aquiring nicer looking clouds to me.This is putting me off buying it now. What do you guy's think!
G-SWIMI use exactly what you are using as stated above with the simple addition of those HDEv1 cumulus textures and I can tell you that FS9 looks amazing and let me remind you, those superb HDE textures are free!! The results I'm getting equal anything I've seen with the new addon. Thanks.

Yep, I don't know either.1) The weather engine is pretty terrible. I have yet for it to show the correct weather depiction that matches the real world METAR. Also, I can't get the weather engine to work unless I go through the main REX interface. If I run just the weather engine, it never locks to my position and when it does it's not remotely close to the real METAR. I went back to ASA for weather for my flight. How off is the weather? The METAR for KEWR is: 26007KT 10SM FEW170 OVC250...REX showed a single layer of fog that disappeared after I took off to a crystal clear sky. The winds aloft are broken too where the true winds at FL 320 are 241/141 -21C...REX showed -21 degrees at 7,000 feet and winds that barely reached 21kts! 2) I'm not sure at all what the "flight planner" is supposed to do but that too is pretty broken. Whether I import an FS9 or FSBuild flight plan it strips all of the waypoints on my current flight from KEWR to KIAH says 5192 NM (the scenic route via Poland maybe). Even allowing the planner to autogenerate is a waste of time since it plugs in a few random waypoints that don't remotely resemble a decent flightplan even in the default FS9 planner! Went back to FSBuild.3) The ocean water is WAYYYYYY to0 blue. Yes, this can be massaged via the editor to make it greener, the default texture makes the water inky blue like someone poured bluejean dye into the oceans! I had GEPro overwrite the water back to the way they were which looks 1000% better.4) The clouds are nice, but you know what, the Free HDEv1 clouds look great too and REX doesn't really improve on that at all. And actually the improved HD FE clouds look just as good.5) The interface is "painfully" slow and is actually slower than the FSX interface for REX.Soooo, in the end if you already have FSBuild, HDEv1, ASA, GEPro & FE and you already like the way your system looks, you may not be too happy with REX. :(

I've noticed that too. I mean for a clouds look. Before i installed REX i used HDE in combination with FS Elemental. Cumulus01 HDE, cumulus02 FSE, well today i've put those again instead of REX, and i don't see ANY difference. Well maybe we expected too much from it. But, thats what you got for 30 euros.Anyway, REX has much more to offer than any other add on of its kind, so like it or not, there is no better.

My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....

REX is simply unusual for those who have used FE since 2005 like myself. It takes time to start like it.

Why would it be "unusual"? You pick the clouds and textures you want to see, you install them in teh sim, you start the weather engine, you start FS9, you fly. I mean seriously. I just loaded the REX engine an it says winds are 104/82 with clear skies meanwhile the REAL METAR and ASA shows 239/131 with few and scattered layers. How much time will it take before I start liking it? :(

Did you buy REX because of WE? :( It's strange, since you do not sound like novice on FS arena. It has been clear from the start (at least for me) that REX is not a competitor for AS/ASA. There is one and only reason I purchased REX - to find better substitution for obsolete FE. And I'm not dissapointed at all. Some GUI glitches do not count - I have no doubts that it will be fixed soon.Again, it's just my opinion at this moment of time. If I won't be satifsy with REX quality within certain period of time, I'll swith to FE again - no problem at all. $37 is tank of gas for my Accord.

REX includes 1. textures, 2. flight planning, 3. weather engine (actually per the website: Full-featured NEW built-in Weather Engine (Built on Real Life meteorological algorithms using synoptic, meso-scale, and micro environment weather formulas for Real and Custom weather)....that's sounds to me like it is set to compete with ASA or any other "real life" weather engine thank you.I know that I'm just being silly, but I've got these silly expectations for the entire product to work. Just like when I buy a DVD movie. I may not care about the first 15 minutes of the movie because my favorite part is in the middle, but that doesn't mean that I want the first 15 minutes of the movie to be unviewable due to defects in the DVD!And please, don't tell me about $37 being a tank of gas. There are plenty of people on this forum who don't make $37 in an entire day's worth of work and in this economic climate $37 means a lot more to more people than you might think.

I'm reading more positive things than negative. I'm sure that the REX team will be happy to look into any bugs and rectify them. Their support is excellent.I would love to buy REX for fs 2004. I just can't see myself abandoning FSX, especially since most of my flying is done in the Orbx world. With PNW on the way, there's no looking back. It's great to see that REX 2.0 is keeping FS 2004 fresh. Good luck to everyone and happy flying.

ASA 6.5 includes set of textures for clouds, however I have never used them (simply used FE instead) neither I complain about "extra" charge on the top of actual AS. That's how market works -you either accept both product and its price or not. The same thing with REX - I wanted textures, not WE engine. So I got the textures, not REX WE... Simple.

You're right. My apologies - this sounded arrogant and rude.
