January 23, 201016 yr I want this simulated in any FS you like, just say a figure and I'll send a check.. :(Anybody here ever played on the very first releases of Microsoft Flight Simulator? 1.0 and son on.. I had that one and played ot in a IBM AT (x8086) 4 bits 2/3FPS at best. There was ONE building in the whole scenery. Lines were so thick you couldnt figure out the runway edges until you were on top of it. But it was the best!On version 3.0 you had relatively improved graphics and you could fly all over the states! And we had a jet! learjet 25! woohoooooo!!Do you remember the first MSFS with VGA graphics? I do. It was version 4.0 and finally after many years we had colors! and circles that looked like circles! and dials that we could read!. It was so good you couldnt believe it. You had a game mode where you would fly in a kind of checkered area limited N and W by a mountain range and you had to shoot down enemy planes which were represented by crosses in the air. It had a base friendly base and two others for the bandits yet you could land on them with no consecuences. On version 5.0 and the upgrade to version 5.1a we had several tones of blue colors for the sky although you saw very clearly the steps and looked like the sky was painted in bands. In 5.1 you got a 747 for the first time and it felt almost impossible to fly, landing was even worst, it was very challenging to learn to fly and it had the very first multiple window cockpit (there was a button in the EICAS to switch between engine power and warnings). in 5.1 you had weather for the first time as well.FS95 was no improvement, FS98 was though and we had a learjet 45 and for the first time something unthinkable: A helicopter!FS2000 was the first one not everyone could play, the hard requirements were high since we had VC's for the first time. FS2002 brought us ATC and better graphics, FS2004 better graphics...28 years have passed since MSFS1.0Please forgive those ungrateful comments from the people that are almost as new as babies in the FS community (FS2004 is just yesterday in MSFS history) because they don't know what they are talking about. In almost 30 years I have had so many computers, spent so much money in upgrades, waited for so many years to buy new hardware that would allow me a few FPS more or a few notches up in graphic detail.. That I can't even remember anymore! And you know what? I dont care!Sometimes I didnt have the money but it made me happy to know new releases were available, new airplanes, more systems, etc.. Because it meant progress and I knew that the day I could afford a new computer they'll be there for me. And that's why I whish you do: Keep pushing to higher levels.Thank you PMDG for giving us something I have (and probably a lot more ppl too) been dreaming for so many years: Ultimate Realism in FS.Thank you, because one day you had the dream to make the most realistic airplane for FS ever made and you actually did it. ----- Jose M Garcia
January 23, 201016 yr This forum is like a bad episode of "Friends". I actually fully agree with you, but enough is enough. You're just adding fuel to the flames, and I would bet that you understand this completely. Quit the trolling and go hang out with your family, friends, or whatever. I have had every sim since sublogic on the atari 800xl. To think we have gone from wire frame graphics 20+ years ago to what we have today! Cheers to innovation!!! and the current companies that keep this hobby the focus of interest. January 23, 201016 yr You forgot one thing in your history lesson: FS2004 did bring somethin FS2002 didn't have.. a fully click-able virtual cockpit, in effect you didn't need to use 2D panels to operate the plane anymore.Although largely impractical if not using a Track IR (which i believe did not exist back then), other than that you are correct. Kind regards Jan H Dahl

January 23, 201016 yr I can remember the wire frame world and trying to shot down the enemy across the river while the PC speaker goes "put put put put." Ha.I remember that game. I was like 12. I think that's where I first figured out that I wanted to learn to fly. Made lots of bad landings and it had nothing to do with the tail wheel Camel. That's it: The PMDG Sopwith Camel. They'll have to figure out the modeling of a hand start, though.... Doug Orvis PP-ASEL-IA (USA), Based at KHEF Picture courtesy of Kyle Rodgers

January 23, 201016 yr When I first glimpse Flight Unlimited (1st edition) for MS-DOS, on a PC magazine I almost freaked out!In that time I had an IBMPC 486DX4 100Mhz with 4Mb of RAM. It was 1994 and a litle PC store (where by the way I bought that PC) had the sim/game on the shelf.Every time I came from school, passed in that store just to grab the box and see the graphics in the back! Me and some other freaking kids saying 'wowww'!!!Some months later I bought the thing in Christmas. I could not sleep. When I tried the sim/game via MS-DOS I got an error. And I will never forget that error because, like Murphy's Law said, '...the only program, game, that actually interests you, will not run on your PC', and things like that! The error said: 'estouro de divisao' (translated: 'division crash', or something). I became mad and return to the store. In that store they told me that was the game because the PC was fine and they could not refund me, bla, bla, bla, etc.I wrote to portuguese game magazines, I phoned to Virgin. Nothing.A sk8 buddy of mine has a brother kind freak of PCs. But he was already mastering informatics. I came to his house because he had a similar PC like mine, only he had 8Mb of RAM. I took the sim/game. The game run just fine! I think for the 1st time I was in a strange house, playing FU, and dont give a damn that it was not my PC but the one of a guy I just met! And the guy was just freaked out! eheheheIt was a saturday. Monday at 9 a.m. I was at the store. With the sim/game in my hand. I must say that I said some nasty words to the guy at the store. But in the end they fixed my PC. Never had bought anything there ever since.I keep the box and its CD-ROM sacredly in my nostalgia shelf, along with other titles like FS5.1, FS95, etc.A bit of nostalgia is good for everyone! eheheBest regards! :( Pedro Lima"The sky is the home of birds... we are just guests... guests of honor" Peter Besenyei"...redundancy is very important in aviation; that is why airplanes have 2 wings instead of 1!" January 24, 201016 yr I remember I started with fs2000, but I honestly don't remember that it had a vc yet. Then when fs2002 came out I bought it the day it came out and loved it. After that I got into other computer games and lost interest in it. Finally in 2005.5 I started putting freeware planes into it and it was a mess...I finally started learning and I had a blast. Soon after I started with fs2004 and finally started buying planes. My first plane bought was lds767 and I bought the stuff like gex and such. Then fsx came out...and I built a new computer and finally bought a bunch more addons such as all the pmdg stuff for fsx. So now I'm not into computer games except for fsx--and that's not even a computer game to me anymore. Flight Simulator can be as realistic as you can get if you do things by the book with planes from pmdg and lds. Steven Penninck
January 24, 201016 yr I started in the Spectrum 48K Flight simulator... and then jumped to the FS5.1 when i finally had a PC.What can i say... things we get for granted now were just in our imagination 20 years ago.Companies like PMDG played a very important role in making it all possible. We just have to say tks for someone in 1997 decided to go for this kind of business.Regards,M Márcio Nóbrega
January 25, 201016 yr Flightsimming started for me when i was like 10 or 11 or so with FS5.1 a friend of mine had it well i am dutch and i was amazed that i couldt also fly in holland with it so he agreed to make me a copy so i couldt play it as well at home 5 or 6 disks if i remember well but the sim messed up the computer wich was from my mom and dads and they said to me that i never was allowed anymore to install that flightsim on the computer wich was a 486SX with 4mb of ram and 214mb harddrive and 1mb video hehe.after few years my parrents got them self a new pc a pentium3 500mhz and they agreed i couldt get theyre old one but that thing only lasted 2 more months before it broke down.2 weeks later i had the same pc as my mom and dad same model with a 500mhz processor and 64mb of ram if i remember well from that point i got into flightsimming for good with FS98 where i also discovered online flying (the zone from microsoft) after that i was hooked forever there was no way i couldt ever get bored from this hobby and i am still flying today. With FS98 my passion for the 747-400 really started got a box bought at the store called flight1 boeing 747 giants of the sky (can be foud here http://www.flight1software.com/747.htm) at that time it was a really advanced aircraft with 3 screens and it even had an fmc and a pedestal and an overhead panel with custom sounds pack to so i was thrilled to fly the queen back then later i got FS2000 and for that i also upgraded my system to 192mb of ram and i was planning to get a 32mb videocard but i was told that it wasn't possible cause of my mainbord didn't accept the new hardware.anyway i kept flying with it also FS2000 with still the same airplane and lateron also the pss 747-400 wich was back then the ultimate queen out there no one was able to match pss in what they made it was the aircraft i have flown for many years all over the world and every continent. Then i got my new pc wich was a pentium 4 2.4 mhz with 256mb of ram and a geforce mx440 64mb videocard and started flying fs2002 also with the pss 747-400 wich made a patch for it continue to fly with the queen then pmdg annouced they were making the queen for FS9 wich was to heavy for my pc at that time so i upgraded my pc with another 256mb of ram and got the ati 9550 pro 256mb videocard to make it ready.i have been flying the pmdg 744 on my old rig i think for about 3 years or so before i got my new combo wich is i still use today the amd dual core 3.0ghz with 2gb of ram and it had then the nvidia geforce 7100gs 512mb wich was what i thought a good card well that was back then lol now i got the nvidia geforce 9600GT wich made dramatic improvementsever have sticked to FS9 but sometimes i fly FSX as well with the JS41 or the 744 or MD-11 but not that much still not runs well here so that has to wait untill i can upgrade to an i7 or something :)That's my history in FS hope you all enjoyed reading itJohan Ketting Johan Ketting MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon Intel Core i7-7700K 16GB @2400mhz 128gb SSD 2TB HDD
January 25, 201016 yr Companies like PMDG played a very important role in making it all possible. We just have to say tks for someone in 1997 decided to go for this kind of business. You could argue that it was Dai Griffiths(sp?) who showed that Flight Simulator had potentional with his Shorts 360 simulation for FS98. PSS, LDS, and PMDG have - in that order - successively made "aircraft simulation" a "simulation".
