May 5, 201016 yr David - I have a lot of respect for you and the job that the mods do BUT - IMHO - if anyone is fomenting a "war" between NickN and ******* - it is you with posts like this one. I didn't perceive an inflammatory statement or insult in the "NickN, you always was right" post. Frankly, didn't even notice it until you called it to attention.Vic, I'm sure David, as well as all the frequent 'Avsim' visitors know 'exactly' what my contributions are, so.. I really don't feel 'attacked' or as if I'm being picked on. David is not defending 'ME' as an individual, but the quality of the conversations that goes on in the forum, and, unfortunately, in the past things went south in some threads. David (and Geofa too) are simply preventing that from hapening again.. unfortunately (as I'm sure everyone else have noticed) sometimes this 'negative' comments come from individuals with less than 30 days of registration in the forums... you know, this also gets people thinking and talking :) so, I think that suggesting David is fomenting a war, when, in FACT, he's being preventing it for the past 90 days IS a contradictory statement.Like you, I didn't feel the 'Nick was right' statement was an attack directed at me, it was simply an expression of support by a fan who feels that my advice doesn't apply to him.... he's free to apply the tweaks or discard them as he sees fit. However, the point here is that the poster comment was 'unnecesary' because it clearly shows the poster is 'evaluating' tweak advise subjectively based on his OWN opinions, but he is sharing it in a public forum.. personally, I think you overreacted to David post... that is, of course, my personal humble opinion.EDIT: The good thing, is that David is cooking today :) so no flying or tweaking for him.
May 5, 201016 yr Moderator Vic, I just told my wife you called me "angel".Now she can't stop laughing and I will be obliged to cook the dinner. That's not fair from you!Aw come on - a guy with a flea for a mascot can't be all bad!!:)Now, I respect your opinion and your honesty. But I disgree with you.God knows how much I am closed to Flight1 guys. Some of them are real friends of mine in the "true life".But there are things I am reading in the "Hardware, Software, and Computer Technology" I don't wish to see here. You say that Bojote and NickN are perfectly capable of defending themselves.Yes, they are big boys now!But Nick is not a member of Avsim anymore thus I won't tolerate that someone criticize him here because he won't be able to answer. In another hand I've personaly asked ******* to refrain from answering to attacks here in order to avoid the "war" some folks would like to bring in here. That's why I wrote my warning.I am not fomenting anything. Believe me, I have other concerns in my life now and very few time for this kind of childish behavior.I am just trying with Geof and Jeremy to keep the place as clean as we can for everyone's interest and satisfaction. And sometimes it's not an easy task when we see what's going on behind the curtain... :(Oh how well I know about the curtain.... :( ok - I see your intent a little more clearly now. I'm basically not a rabble rouser, I have opinions but most time I let things go in one ear and out the other. However when your post stuck, I figured that if *I* perceived it that way, others might so I expressed my concern.Tell your wife to savor that dinner!Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 5, 201016 yr Oh my... :--))))))))My English is that bad?? :(Nonsense! You simply created a new word and I think we all understood what it meant. :)Cheers David, now keep yer eyes on the grill!
May 5, 201016 yr Ohohoh, I see one of my phrase was not well placed... Hey David, I never meant it that way!Just for the sake of clarityI respect all the good work of ******* and Nick! They booth are very knowledgeable, kind and helpful to our community and hobby. If a phrase I wrote was insulting someone, than I feel sorry for that. Sometimes it is not easy for me to find the right words, as English is not my first language.cheers, Crash

May 5, 201016 yr I tried simply deleting my cfg to get things back in order. Then I had to tweak to get it working again. :(I don't know about every member, but I'm extremely grateful for all the contributions made by both ******* & Nick.I sincerely hope that one day everyone experiences what I'm currently experiencing thanks to tweaking. May 5, 201016 yr Let's be honest here. If you read carefully all the threads that have to do with the latest surge of tweaks , there are many here which are completely dazed and confused, and there is a reason they are. This is not to say in any shape or fashion that some of the tweaks have not offered up some wonderful improvement. On the contrary. There are 3 which I, after reading the threads have proved to me to be incredibly useful . With may of the other new tweaks, they have either not worked at all for most, or broke something else when trying (read the threads please), and this is a fact. This forum has always allowed for the "Try this" form of help, and the ones that seem to be speaking out (including myself) do so with some legitimacy, but it has been misunderstood by many. I am not saying that the tweaks should stop, but I am requesting that this be done in a manner which leans towards a more structured engineering approach. Do the testing in a controlled environment and try to use as much diverse hardware as possible. A testing methodology must be used if you expect to provide a meaningful outcome. I am sure someone will disagree, but let me emphasize that without this type of approach you will have chaos!!If ACES had released these tweaks without proper testing and documentation, many would be very frustrated and rightly so. RegardsBob G
May 5, 201016 yr Well, I went back to the basic completely now... After rebuilding my cfg and only adding the BP tweak (like I posted earlier in this topic) and still getting lockups with my new Bonanza, I am now completely back to a clean cfg... I rebuild it and didn't add ANYTHING. In order to get smooth performance above default PNW I simply turned down autogen one notch, set water to 2.x low (which is more realistic, so I am told :( : I only had it at 2.x high because BP=0 would give artifacts with lower settings), lowered the cloud distance and after not being able to finish a flight with the Bonanza, all is fine now. I do still use the external Limiter (at 25) but for now that is it. Life can be so simple. BTW This is the first time in years that I do not use ANY tweak at all. Before the BP=0 tweak I used BP at 480 million on Vista. But right now I am more than happy with decent graphics (I re-enabled nHancer's 8xS btw!) and solid performance. BP=0 has been great fun and awesome for a long time, but somehow it just won't work as well as it did somehow... Performance above Orbx's Darrington and Twin Oaks isn't as good as it was without BP=0 but I hardly visit those airfields anymore (payware airfield addons just aren't my cup of tea, I guess), so it's no big problem.Back to basics, back to flying! :(

May 5, 201016 yr I've hit my FSX sweet spot using these only tweaks (see system spec below): BP=150000, TBM=80 and HIGHMEMFIX=1. I run at 100% scenery/autogen with usually no stutters being internally limited at 35 fps. When I hit stutters, I either drop road traffic to zero and/or reduce cloud distance to min and, ta-da, no more stutters. Using 1024 res REX clouds helps a lot too. I used to get (along with stutters) nasty ground spikes, white textures and black squares all the time but not anymore thanks to all the great info here and at simforums :( . I've tried the latest tweaks against the above settings and so far the above settings are still the best overall for my setup (best: smoothness with no artifacts, blurries or hangs/CTD). IMO the absolute No. 1 performance enhancement for FSX: an i7/i9 overclocked as high as practically possible and decent RAM. For me the performance difference is night and day between running default clock and overclocked. May 5, 201016 yr A quick thought:Would it help to have a thread linking to configs based on hardware setups?I've had a big result with *******' own .cfg file, with the odd tweak here and there (e.g. depending on urban/rural scenery).I'm thinking: t'would be nice to say, that with a i7 920@4 with a 280nvidia, I use "x".Everyone seems to agree there is no "one size fits all". Maybe a wiki-cfg-ia might help? Dunno. Not thought it through, but maybe it's worth discussion. I for one would be glad of a "find my hardware setup, try this .cfg" approach. Paul Skol

I for one would be glad of a "find my hardware setup, try this .cfg" approach. An automated web based service where you send your FSX.cfg (via upload or pasting it into a form) and it will 'adjust it' to your specific hardware setup... or maybe creating a module from within FSX to do it and give you a 'critique' of your current config vs. hardware in use ;)
May 6, 201016 yr ...small gears, big gears.. they're all needed to keep a clock running... :(Apparently "small gears" means your a 2nd rate member that has to live by another set of rules that OTHERS don't seem to have to go by.I know that was't what you said Paul, its just the feeling I have from watching how a few behave here that seem to also have the moderators blessing, frankly it is just imature & childish.
