Bob,I have had several relatives deal with cancer in the past so I know in a way the toll it can take. I'm wishing for the best and hoping you recover soon.

Dear Bob,We've never exchanged messages, but as a brain tumor survivor (had an astrocytoma removed in 2006), I wish you all the best!Tim

Bob,I have not responded only because it is very difficult. I lost both parents to cancer--my father eleven years ago and my Mom just six months ago. That's one of the reasons I am not in these forums much--as the only surviving member of the family I knew when growing up, I have had a lot on my plate handling the challenges one has on a parent's passing. I learned one thing with cancer is key--early detection and aggressive treatment. In both parent's cases, time lapsed between onset of symptoms and treatment. In my Mom's case, she had signs of lung cancer she just dismissed as bronchitis. Then, she postponed the tests she needed out of fear. When she finally did have surgery, her health had deteriorated and it made it hard to fight back. However she did recover and we enjoyed great times together for a couple of years. However the doctor urged her to get another test and she put it off again for some time. By the time a recurrence of her cancer was found and chemo was started, it was already too late--there were signs the cancer had spread to her brain and in the end, it was the brain cancer that took her from us. My Mom did not suffer as many do. She had bad days, but less than 48 hours before she left us she was still joking and teasing. In spite of my Mom being taken from us, her battle is still one of hope. I feel if one is blessed with early detection there is a good chance cancer can be beat. It is quite probable that we all battle undetected cancers and our immune systems keep it at bay. Surgery or other treatment may never eliminate it 100 pct., but I honestly believe it can tip the odds in favor of the immune system. Mental focus can also help. In the case of both of my parents, I think they both felt by the time the end came they had lived long and fruitful lives. I think at that point their focus became less about the cancer, and more about finding peace. I read from your posts that you are ready and willing to meet this challenge. I think that, plus your experience and toughness developed in service to your country, will help you win--not against cancer, but for life.Friday is my birthday, but I will be thinking of you. May 21st has always been a lucky day for me--21 is a blessed number. I hope those blessings are passed on to you in your challenge.Regards,John

Hi Guys,I was released from the hospital on Monday. The surgery went very well and they were able to execute plan "A" (perform two wedge resections on the lung tumors). I am however in alot of pain and thus heavily medicated. I got the pathology reports back today and unfortunately they confirm that the sarcoma has indeed metastasized. That's all for now. Will be in touch again soon.Regards,Bob Modrowski

At present, the course of action is to increase my CT Scan surveillance schedule to every three months. If a nodule or nodules appear in my lungs have another resection or resections. This morning I contacted the University of Michigan Sarcoma Clinic and have set things in motion to get a second opinion from a dedicated Sarcoma Center. From my discussions with them this morning, I should be getting an appointment within the next two weeks after their team has had the opportunity to review my medical records, imaging and slides of my tumors.Regards,Bob Modrowski

Take care, Bob, and enjoy every single moment of your life if only you can! :( Each of them is priceless. I am sure you still have a lot of them ahead of you.PS The '-ski' in your name sounds familiar...
