How many of you are regularily using the Video Marshaller?

Featured Replies

Fullscreen here too..Plus while it's a cool concept, a video of a marshaller kinda kills the immersion IMHO. Would be cool if we could get a decent looking little animated fella' in the sim... but we're not quite there yet. Either way it's still an innovation, and a nice stab at something missing from our simulated world!
Totally agree: I never use it because it because it is 'just' a video playing. I'd love to see a marshaller in the sim like the AES one.BTW: bought a decent headset yesterday and now it's even more fun flying with FS2Crew JS41! Magnificent product!

I run windowed mode.I used it at first then quit.Like others have mentioned, in it's present form, it doesn't help with the immersion.Somehow having a view thru the windshield would be a huge improvement. Thanks for asking Bryan, nice to see a dev who asks for feedback.cheersParksy

I also feel the same way, while it's nice to have the ground operations simulated, it does take away from the immersion. As a line service worker myself, I can appreciate the idea behind it, but between the all yellow jump suit and the some what hit or miss reliability (not sure what the problem is, sometimes the video works, sometimes not) I've just decided it's better to leave it out of the experience. Until we can get an actual 3d marshaller (like someone said earlier, don't think we're quite there yet) I think I'll hold off. But where the VM falls short, the voice recognition and newest version of Fs2crew makes up for it in spades. Once again, thanks again Bryan, truly an awesome piece of software.

Hi,I also flew in full screen mode until I discovered a program that let you fly in windowed mode with the appearance of full screen mode so now I can use also the Marshaller :( The program is this one:http://www.actualtools.com/windowmanager/You can try before buying. As for the performance I do not see the difference not to say that in windowed mode and with this utility FSX goes smoother.Regards,Manu

Hi Manu,Thanks for letting me know about that program.Best,

Thanks Manu,I will look into this, I use windowed mode all the way up to the taxi out which is after I finish with the Video Marshaller. It is pretty easy running windows maximized and then just ALT ENTER to switch. However, this sounds great. I will look into it and see what I think. One question, what is the performance difference (FPS) between windowed and full screen. I heard that full screen was typical the better perfomer, but would like to know your observations.ThanksJoe

Ok, bought the full version and like some of the features, however the most important feature I wanted it to perform is not available, at least to my knowledge. I want to have it resize the window (in windowed mode) to hide the top windows title bar. I have searched and searched and can't find a way to get it off there, that is the only way this would be of benefit, is to hide the window top title bar when in "full" sized window. Also, there is a significant decrease in FPS when in windowed mode, up to 50% FPS loss. So Manu, if you can give me some direction, I would much appreciate it.Thanks

Hi,Open FSX in windowed mode, you

Banner_FS2Crew_Supporter.jpg

Manu,Excellent, that worked. Can't believe I could not see that in the "start up" options. I got it to work, I was now wondering if there is a way that I can still have my bottom taskbar "auto hide" so that I can activate other routines and programs without having to ALT TAB to get to them? Another thing, with this working as advertised, how do I tell when I am in windowed mode vs full screen mode? It does the job so well that I can not tell. Maybe by using the FSX menu (ALT) I can inspect the status, i.e., full screen vs windowed (actually just checked and I can use that to tell what mode I am in).Anyway, thank you so much. This was very helpful. I do have a difference in FPS performance on my system. I have at least 30% increase in performance in "full screen" mode vs "windowed". Regardless, I like now not having any windows menu bars and borders when I am in my "pre-flight" and "shutdown" phases where I use the video marshaller. I discovered, since I like to run in "full screen" mode for performance purposes, that when I toggle (ALT ENTER) that when I go back to windowed mode that I have to "re-apply" my Actual Windows Manager settings by "window F5". It doesn't seem to keep my settings if I go in and out of windowed mode. Any thoughts?Great instructions . . . thank you!Joe

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been using this program for a week now and 8 flights later and really enjoy it. Once set up, nothing else to do by fly windowed mode with full FPS performance. Thanks Manu!!

Hi,You are very welcome, I

Banner_FS2Crew_Supporter.jpg

I use it, I just switch from full screen to window mode when it is time to use him. He did crash on me once, but FS2Crew and FSX was still running just fine, so I just completed that flight without him. Granted I only have flown three flights with JS41 and FS2Crew so far.

Bryan, I love this Video Marshaller and use it every flight. I've heard some say that they would rather have a 3D man than a video. Not me. The real human is a great contrast within the fabricated 3D world of FSX.I look forward to using it all the time. I think VM is a great idea. For me, it adds a lot to the fun to setting up the flight.I also have the addon VM program and use it a lot too.Bob

Hi Bryan,I am using the windowmanager as recommended here and have been doing so for some time and it works great. I also use the video marshaller on every flight. I just had a question and was wondering if the video could be clipped (edited) to just show the marshaller and not the back ground (pavement, etc) This would be incredible if this could be done, i.e., make the area around the the marshaller to be "transparent" so to speak. This would give an excellent appearance. Just a thought.ThanksJoe
