July 9, 201015 yr "Hearing" that line come from Mathijs, who is in the process of developing a competing product, reaffirms the fact that you cannot slap in any old graphics rendering engine (a la: Crysis and other games) and expect it to function well in an open world flight sim.As far as I know, Crysis is a first person shooter game. Here's another reason why you can't use a first person shooter engine for a flight simulator (Ben Supnik, X-Plane):http://xplanescenery.blogspot.com/2010/04/...d-overlays.htmlYou can also check yourself the FlightGear code. :( Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
July 10, 201015 yr While Oleg Maddox has a great system for his combat flight sims, there is the problem of running into the edge of the map with his previously released game(s). Now what he has in store for Storm of War: The Battle of Britain, but I would imagine much the same. How he could make it into a whole world type of sim is the question. I too await for SoW, but who knows when it will be released. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
July 13, 201015 yr I don't think they will stop making MSFS add-ons, at least until their own simulator is ready. They will need to generate an income during their development and also need to stay active in the market and fs community. besides, it is likely that most add-ons that they develop for MSFS will be made available for their own sim as well.Whether they keep developing for MSFS AFTER their own sim is ready is another matter, but FS9 and FSX might be obsolete by then.FS9 might be obsolete, but it's a different story for FSX as its community and avability of addons will be as gigantic as FS9 is today. Unless the file structures are similar then portovers from FSX are impossible. July 14, 201015 yr They sounded out of their depth to me. Some of the last posts I read on their forum the guy was going on how he just found out that certain aircraft's ceiling is limited by pressurization and how surprised he was about it. The debate then went on to include things like not be able to open the door in flight and so on for a few pages. Overall the things they wanted to include was not that important to a virtual simulator. I did not get much topics regarding fidelity on their forum, that is kinda important isn't it?!? Once that is covered and you have cycles available then include the nice to haves :( I hope I'm worng though.

July 17, 201015 yr Aerosoft have no obligation whatsoever to develop a new flight simulator. Why are some people getting so annoyed at the lack of information or progress? We are not going to see any final product any time soon, so I suggest that everyone forgets about it, and concentrates on what we have at the moment.I agree with you. Roger See my specs in my profile

July 17, 201015 yr Although I can't locate a link I believe I recall seeing a post from Mathijs that they intend to create something that will allow portovers of MSFS add ons.For Aerosoft to convert their MSFS products to AFS2013 is probably not too difficult. Since they have the source code of their own products they may just need to re-compiling this code to another format and tweak/correct a few things manually. although it may still take some time, it will only be a fraction of what it takes to design from scratch.Whether it is possible to convert an end-product to the new sim, I doubt is possible and maybe for the better.
