November 7, 201015 yr Is there a add on weather program that someone would recommend for FSX? Richard Spencer Churchill PVT SEL GYSGT USMC (ret)
November 7, 201015 yr I would recommend Active Sky Evolution, by far the most realistic in terms of winds aloft, also weather depiction seems to be getting better of late with the most recent beta builds.http://www2.hifisim.com/node/1044 Craig Sells
November 7, 201015 yr I would reccomend Active Sky Evoloution for weather and get a copy of REX2.0 for the cloud textures. Also a copy of registered FSUIPC for wind smoothing on long haul flights as FSX injects weather rather badly . I`ve found FSUIPC essential in stopping PMDG aircraft making S Turns along the flight path due to the way FSX injects winds aloft data.Douglas Reid My youtube channel for HD FSX Videos http://www.youtube.com/user/Doogiereid?feature=mhee Doogie Reid
November 7, 201015 yr Here's a link to a seperate thread with everyone's likes and dislike with addons they currently have or have had experiences with: http://forum.avsim.n...ns-do-you-have/Hope that helps, it gave me a couple of ideas. Personally, I just stuck with REX 2.0 at the moment. The textures are unbelievable and it comes with it's own weather engine. Probably not on par with Active Sky, but kind of want to save my money for a comp upgrade and of course the NGX. November 8, 201015 yr Don´t ASE already smooth turbulence? Why the need of FSUIPC?ASE's smoothing comes with its own set of issues. I recommend using the standard mode in ASE then using FSUIPC to smooth everything. REX 2.0 s Wx Engine is quite good, but there are just so many programs out there that can use ASEs weather stations data, so you can edit weather or use historical weather data, and have them show up in your flight plan, or your ACARS device. REX2.0s is real time weather or nothing. November 8, 201015 yr I recommend DWC mode when using ASE plus FSUIPC wind smoothing or disabling turbulence. The visual transitions are so much smoother with DWC. It's just awesome when you are on your way to the IAF in IMC and the visibility degrades slowly and smoothly. It's almost like you are really flying into the fog. "A life is like a garden. November 8, 201015 yr ASE, uhhh... I really hope they'll get it sorted out somehow at HiFi, cause with FSX it's causing mostly trouble. I agree with Alexander though, 'Standard' mode = stutters and FPS drop. Matthew Bucholski
November 8, 201015 yr ASE for FSX has been commented on as having a number of issues:1. High CPU loading causing slow down of other add-on support applications.2. Initially it required DWC mode to do weather smoothing for FSX. For FSX this forced Global Weather mode which set the weather everywhere to that of your aircraft location present position. This as you approach can cause instability at your destination forcing AI to follow patterns that will easily not accommodate to the changing destination weather as you approach and traffic conflicts will occur. At the time approach assigns your runway possibly incorrect destination winds and AI patterns will be observed since at that moment the destination weather is not what it will be when you get there. I think but not sure that in global mode weather update periods are also spaced out so the "incorrect" weather might be present if you are in a really fast aircraft. This was outlined to some degree in the original ASE manual I downloaded a few months ago.I'm still an FS9 user with AS6.5 but in the Radar Contact forum here and in the hifi sim forum here many of these issues have been brought up. For the relatively short time ASE has been in release quite a few service packs have been released for it with major changes.I suggest reviewing the hifi sim forum here for user comments on the current release level.
November 8, 201015 yr The newest build of ASE is pretty good. They are definitely going in the right direction. About the update intervals, you can define those in the options. I use 20 minute intervals. "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory." - Leonard Nimoy ASUS Prime Z270-K/Intel i7 7700k @ 4.7GHz/be quiet! November 9, 201015 yr I gave up on ASE because the destination winds were always incorrect. Nothing more upsetting than flying a complete flight, and then landing with a tailwind along with AI issues. Once they get that sorted out, I'll give it another try. Curt Branch
November 9, 201015 yr Commercial Member Guys, following on from title,i use rex 2.0 for textures, but use the IVAO weather engine. active sky is best is it? can it be incorportated easily with the rex textures ?Alex Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
November 10, 201015 yr I was windering when someone would finally say REX. It is amazing! Alexander Brinson
November 10, 201015 yr People already have said REX, responce #3, 4, 6, and #14. REX is really good to have. I have not had those wind problems that people experience with ASE, but the weather injector is a little weak. Good enough for me though, and it is really a small tradeoff for not having any of those bank-angle problems. Eric Vander Pilot and Controller Boston Virtual ATC KATL - The plural form of cow. Once they get that sorted out, I'll give it another try.I bought ASE a cuple of days ago and using it with REX overdrive textures. No problems at all with incorrect winds or AI issues. Also there is a function in ASE for updating AI traffic on the weather before launching a flight.
