November 30, 201015 yr Anyone updated yet? Or is it still to be rolled out, mine is still saying its uptodate.
December 1, 201015 yr If you want to have the full installer instead of the web update, go to Additional InformationThe DirectX End-User Runtimes installer contains all of the components installed by the Web Installer in a single package and is recommended for those users that do not have an Internet connection during installation.but then you are redirected to the June 2010 runtimes. This could be a mistake of course but even if they have updated the stuff, can we really expect any changes to the mainly DX9 based FSX there? I mean, believe is a strong force, even nowadays. Nobody is questioning the value of a current DirectX setup of course (some addons need it to work), but I really doubt any major performance improvements in the DX9 section there.Anyway, the web installer has another version tag (9.29.1973) than the runtimes, so I'll give this a try and thank you for the HUEdited: Just like seat183 said, the installer says that I'm current, so no update done since June2010.
December 1, 201015 yr Word to the wise:NEVER EVER install brand-new DX updates untill they are tried and true and proven to not mess things up, It happens!DX is near impossible to uninstall even with using a restorepoint it may not work if its been sometime since the upgrade and then you are left to re-install the OS or wait it out for a fix from MS.Though its a little less painful its the same advice for BIOS updates, chipset drivers and the like, unless you have a major problem anyhow and your left with little choice than to try something, If it aint broke....
December 1, 201015 yr The web updater also installs the June 2010 version as far as I've seen. I think the only thing that changed is the web installer itself (or was that 'Install Bing Toolbar' thingy there before?)As far as updating DirectX goes... FSX SP2/Acc uses d3dx9_34.dll and this dll was not updated since May 2007.Daniel Word to the wise:NEVER EVER install brand-new DX updates untill they are tried and true and proven to not mess things up, It happens! Now you've got all the wise people in the world hoping that there will be enough stupid people left. Otherwise new DX versions will never be tried and proven ;)Daniel

December 1, 201015 yr Based on previous experience, I doubt many people will notice any performance difference after downloading it. Gerry Howard

December 1, 201015 yr Hi all,I downloaded the all in one installer(my computer that runs fsx does not have internet)and now it prompts me for a location to extract the files to.Could anyone please advise me into which folder these files go? Thanks in advance for any response.Terry
December 1, 201015 yr Hi all,I downloaded the all in one installer(my computer that runs fsx does not have internet)and now it prompts me for a location to extract the files to.Could anyone please advise me into which folder these files go? Thanks in advance for any response.TerryYou could use any empty folder, the installer just needs some place to start from, that's why he is asking you (where to extract himself). The actual files that are getting installed will find their place to be, don't worry.Another topic: Guys, where does this anxiety towards a new Directx come from? There's no bad thing in such files and they usually don't put out this stuff without testing it.I'm sure there happened some things to one amongst thousands but we are not talking about some file named "tryme.exe" from a remote webserver or something.Don't get me wrong. You do whatever you think is good or bad for your system but I'm just wondering where this strange fear of updating comes from.As for the Fsx benefit, I think Daniel42 really hit the spot and pointed out that all Fsx related items there are far away from receiving any update. Thanks for that information by the way.So being purely Fsx based, there's no need to think of a Directx update unless some addon dev recommends it.The other thing is: nothing has changed since June2010.
