There are Sandy Bridge reviews out now, Intel pulled the NDA expiry in by ~1 week. I'm not going to link to any of these reviews as I find their content to be severely lacking, thanks to this. If I feel motivated enough this week I may head over to testing central and get some FSX numbers for your guys. I've got a 2600k and a 2500k sitting there now.

That would be most beneficial. Looking forward! Many thanks!Cheers,- jahman.

That would be great, thanks for thinking about going and doing the FSX Numbers. I have read some reviews today so far and at the moment I have got FSX and FS2004 running on a socket 939 Amd X2 4600 CPU with 4gigs of DDR Ram and ATI 4850 PCIE graphics card etc and I was waiting for Sandybridge to come out and then see where I was going from there. From what I have read so far it seems that the I5 2500K chip is the one for me as the I7 is quite abit more expensive in comparision but has hyperthreading but as I just want to mainly play games and of course Flightsim x and FS2004 on it then I think this is the one to get so seeing some numbers would be great. Thanks againCraig

I stay tuned, waiting your tests!

I'd love to see some results for an overclocked 2600K...... From the reviews I'm reading its on par with 980x on many tests....James

Sandy Bridge looks to be quite nice. In truly CPU-bound scenarios it can out-pace its predecessor(s) by 30% or more. Can't wait to see how it overclocks also.

Here is a pretty comprehensive list of available Sandy Bridge Reviews. As TechGuy said above, content is lacking and it's really hard to tell what these will bring to the table with regards to FSX performance. I will be looking forward to FSX test results as well. Regardless, I will probably upgrade to Sandy Bridge as I'm not willing to wait till LGA 2011 is released. From what I've read, it seems third party motherboards are having a little more difficulty overclocking SB chips than the Intel boards. I expect once newer BIOS revisions are released, things will improve and 4.8 to 5GHz overclocks will be available to more than just 10%. This is good news in the sense that it means the chips themselves aren't what are limiting the overclocks. I think I will be waiting until some of this confusion is cleared up. I would like to be able to do 4.8GHz 24/7, but I suppose I would be perfectly happy with 4.5 considering my current motherboard limits my Q9550 to 3.6.Edit:Just came across this:

current chips comes in two steppings: D1 and D2. Stepping D1 is preferred because it will allow for higher multipliers to be achieved. Eventually all chips should reach D1 stepping, similar to the C0 vs D0 for 900 series Core i7 chips, but in the initial stages you may get a D2 chip. Enthusiasts are encouraged to search for a D1 chip or request a retailer verify the Stepping prior to purchase if at all possible.

This is backwards. D2 would be newer than D1 so the statement "Eventually all chips should reach D1 stepping" is wrong, and makes me doubt the source's knowledge and credibility.

Hi Guys,Well this is most interesting as I have been reading a multitude of reviews all morning. It looks really good, but the confusion is as thick as the data. Let's see what a 4.9 GHz overclocked i7 2600K brings to the FSX table. If it is good, I will make the jump much sooner rather than later.Kind regards,

So, how can we help motivate you properly? Hug, kiss, bribe, threat? What?Kind regards,

Lots of traffic for the site I write for would be a start ;)

I will post a link to it and speak very highly of it over at overclock.net!

Thanks, I'm not sure what Avsim's policy is on this sort of thing though, it might be considered advertising and that's not usually free.

Overclocking to 4.9GHz even with HTon using just a regular updated aircooler sounds like it's the best upgrade we can do for FSX...I wonder if the architectural changes gives any better FSX performance on a clock for clock basis compared with Bloomfield/Lynnfield or if it's just the improved overclocking that will give improvements. To remember that it is only the "k" model CPUs combined with the P67 chipsets that is an option. Otherwise you basically can't overclock Sandy Bridge =(

It's called free publicity.
