Microsoft Fly

Featured Replies

HI guys, I was wondering, what is your opinion on the release of third party add-ons for the new Flight software I was wondering if we could expect a new line of simulation software from you for this. I know that this may be a bit premature but I am looking forward to the new Microsoft simulator after a dry spell and it would be not the same without PMDG leading the way in Third-Party Add-ons again. Cheers Dan Esparon

Well everything is speculation at this point. My opinion is it will be a joke. If you look at MS's portfolio of games right now it is all for the casual crowd. Heck they are even trying to implement avatars in PC games. They have sold out to the console crowd at this point. My only hope at this time is that Flight is coded better than FSX and they allow 3rd party add ons. I dont see them bringing anything to the table that is anywhere near hardcore study sim level.I dont think the loss of ACES was great either. I just hope they bring us a good base sim that is coded well so PMDG and others can give us great add ons in it.

"intr.v. im·pend·ed, im·pend·ing, im·pends1. To be about to occur"I'm not sure Flight's release is indeed "impending". Its more "announced"

you post this question in the PMDG forum, because............... why?+ it's called Flight+ who says it is about to be released?sorry i have to be smart pants.

He posted this in the PMDG forum because he wants to know if PMDG will develop addons for it. If they know more about Flight, then they are probably (as Shane mentioned) under NDA. Also: I guess a decent user base would be required for them to consider developing addons for Flight. So basically, it's too soon to get an answer.

Just 3 days ago Robert Randazzo made the following statement on this forum which you can easily find:At this time, we are prohibited from discussing Microsoft Flight, the impact we feel it will have on the hobby-simmer, or whether or not we wish to support that platform in its currently planned format.

Well with the release of the ACES team, the decline in simulator enthusiast, and the over bearing generation of console users I do not have high hopes for MS Flight. We are so much of an instant gratification society that a detailed flight simulator from a major software developer just seems out of the question.disclosure: All talking points and options are mine alone with no substantial proof

Hi, two things I would like to add A) I have read your comments and they are great but if you read the actual l question you would see that I was asking PMDG about their addons not about the actual software but that is what you may of been thinking about.:( I agree with most of you I would prefer to stay with FSX because after looking at the releases that Microsoft have acknowledged the simulator looks terrible and not a true simulator like 2004 and just another downgrade from realism from the 2004 simulator.just clearing some things up Cheers Daniel Esparon

Hi,MS Flight (or whatever it ends up being called) had better have made improvements to the flight dynamics if it is to have any credibility left as a "flight simulator".FS2004 was acceptable at that time as they were making a half-decent effort to improve the sim, but FSX was just inexcusable. I don't care for a round earth model and "pretty" graphics (yellow ground textures? Really?!) when the core of the engine is very old (the flight model goes back to FS98). The graphics improvements are a joke (AutoGen stutters and is rubbish compared to FS2004, AI traffic leaks memory, and let's not forget the 2 service packs that were needed to fix glaring issues with z-order and transparency issues, among lots of other problems), and finally let's not mention the fact that you use the menus on a long flight at your peril, lest the next mouse click kills the sim. There are some kick-&@($* sims out there now that make MSFS look like a toy (and that is if we ignore Falcon 4.0 from 1998!).Add-on developers do a great job with what they've got, but at the end of the day, the flight model of MSFS is now seriously lacking (I can tear holes in that all day long).I still fly FS2004 far more than FSX, and I'll happy set up for a 12 hour flight. In FSX I have to think twice and then be prepared to dump the flight before I even start. Not fun. :( Best regards,Robin.

You must have a different version of FSX that the one I bought. :LMAO:Mine didn't come with AI memory leaks or autogen stutters, but I did get the one with the round earth model, which I dont mind, since the earth is after all, round. :Secret:Fortunately, mine also included the option to do extened range flights. Yesterday I did a nice one from FSDT's KDFW to Rio, Brasil (SBGL) in the PMDG 747 which lasted 10.5 hours and it worked great. I did make sure to check the "Extended Flying Hours" box inside the options menu before I left DFW. :( In all honesty, both have pretty bad looking ground textures until you replace them with either GE Pro, BEV, or GEX. Alhtough I prefer the higher resolution ones that GEX provides, especially when use with a good looking EMB setting. :( Sean Campbell

And to add what Sean said, mine came also with the fix for the menu problem...
