April 30, 201115 yr Is it me or does it seem like were in some kind of Flightsim plateau at this moment. Nothing really big has been recently released. Basically everyone is on there heels waiting for the NGX, fsdreamteam KLAX, Aerosoft Airbus apdate, ect. James Goez - KOPF
April 30, 201115 yr Don't forget the A2A P-51 Mustang and F-4 Phantom II. As well as Orbx's Northern California Inactive
April 30, 201115 yr Wouldn't say stuff had slowed that much, it's just that people expect more these days, so development is a bit longer.A2A's Spitfire Mark 1 was released not so long ago (and is fab if you have not got it, as good as their B-17G), they're doing a Vb version too. A2A have got an F-104 Starfighter on the way which is also the test platform for the AccuSimmed J-79 engine, two of which will be in their F-4 which will also be Accusim and based on the Collings Foundation's F-4D. Captain Sim's Weapon For FSX was quite innovative and recent, and they've got a Triple Seven coming (external model already available), plus they have a B737-200 in the works and some more 707 variants on the way. iFly have an FSX 737NG coming, as does PMDG of course, and in the meantime iFly's FS9 NG has really pushed things for the older sim. If you like old airliners, there's a nice DH Comet on the way too.Flight Sim Labs have their A320 on the way, recently having shown some pics of it. At some point hopefully Dodosim will get their UH-1H out (which I'm looking forward to more than anything else and have been for a long time), but in any case Aerosoft already have their UH-1D out, which again was a fairly recent release. Aerosoft got their DA-20 100 Katana out just recently, and that's a real fancy bit of work, with lots of innovative stuff on it.There's other stuff too of course, but those were off the top of my head.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 30, 201115 yr Both a 737-100 AND -200. As for the 777's, I love it, even without a cockpit. They will have the 777-200 and 777-300 in teh future, then 777-200ER then -300ER and then the 777-200LR and 777-F. My videos (three of them0 showcast all the exterior goodies of this 777 Captain. As for Accusim things, I know all about them and am severly awaiting their release(s). Aerosoft has many sceneries too. May 1, 201115 yr Author Wouldn't say stuff had slowed that much, it's just that people expect more these days, so development is a bit longer.I think that this is probably the best answer. The flightsim community has grown from just game to a very realistic simulation, which causes development time to increase to meet these demands James Goez - KOPF
May 1, 201115 yr Commercial Member Captain Sim's Weapon For FSX was quite innovativeI'm personally waiting for VRS's implementation of weapons, their TacPack, which was announced first and will likely be the best. May 1, 201115 yr My mind tends to lean towards what the current Devs' have or will have planned for the new MS Flight. There seems to be a lot of talk about our current high-end Devs' working in collaboration with MS on the new "Flight" platform. In fact I was feeling the blas as well. There definatley seems to be a lull. I was very excited about the CS 777 but it is also a waiting game before we get the systems, till then it sits unused for me. There are several projects that are absolute game changers from me. The NGX goes without saying. I have been dying for a KLAX. Thank goodness we KSFO now. I have to totally agree with Ryan about the TakPack the jet alone is unbelievable the weapons systems will open up huge opportunities and I think it will carry the sim a lot further even after MS Flight comes out. May 1, 201115 yr Might be a "plateau" for FSX, but definitely something is brewing on the X-Plane side. Just recently got the info, that the announced canceled CRJ project by JRollon is actually finished and will be on sale any time soon (and boy you gotta see the videos for this beauty). In the meantime DCS are not sleeping and they issue a new patch every month, implementing new features into their already amazing A-10C. So, heads up... While waiting for the FSX projects to come to life you can open your mind with other things available. Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931
May 1, 201115 yr Wouldn't say stuff had slowed that much, it's just that people expect more these days, so development is a bit longer. This is very true. As an example: PSX from Aerowinx may not be expected to be released before 2012 or 2013. This is the price to pay if you want to get a professional simulation. The Topcat new flight planner has been in development for ages and may finally be available during the summer/autumn of this year. The list could go on and on for those add-ons which needs thousands of code lines to be up to the expectations of the new brand of armchair pilots. However there is a drawback in this constant search for more sophisticated add-ons which is the learning curve and the time one will have to spend to master them half-way. There may be a day in the non too distant future where you will get two different markets with each its own selection of add-ons. The first one will satisfy those who do not want to invest time in learning / mastering highly sophisticated software or have substantial aeronautic background and a second one which will be the "fire and go" market with much less accurate replicas of the professional softwares for the average simmers.Just my two cents.Cheers Best Regards, Michael A. May 1, 201115 yr Flight Sim has never been better than it is at the moment IMO. There's lots of great new add ons just released or to be released imminently. As has been said there's the Captain Sim 777, and the original Pratt powered 737s, which look great. Another aircraft I recently bought which i've really been enjoying is the Diamond DA20 Katana 4X from Aerosoft. Yes, it's a GA bird, but the attention to detail is stunning. It's the first time in Flight Sim i've ever seen a "living aircraft", one that gets damaged, one that uses fuel and oil each time you use it, one that gets dirty etc. You really have to look after the engine - check and if necessary top up the oil, check the fuel tanks for water. Too many heavy landings will take its toll on the airframe and you'll have problems. It really is incredible. And scenery wise, if you live in the UK, Earth Simulations have the Channel Islands coming up, as well as the Isle of Man. Their scenery is definitely up there with OrbX IMO.Tom Wright Tom Wright, UK PPL(A) SEP + Night Rating + IMC/IR(R) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM | 16GB RTX 4080 Super | 2x 2TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Sidestick + Quadrant | Logitech G Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals | WinCTRL Airbus FCU + EFIS + MCDU
May 1, 201115 yr You should check out a few other FS aircraft if the 'wear and tear' appeals to you. Way back in the distant past, the Aeroworx Beech King Air had a persistent wear and tear/maintenance feature in FS9. More recently, A2A's astonishingly good AccuSim efforts (Spitfire, B-17G et all) have that too and A2A are currently beta testing some stuff which will push that kind of thing even further on their Boeing Stratocruiser, so that is worth keeping an eye on if airliner realism is your thing. In the whirlybird world, Dodosim's stunningly realistic Bell 206 JetRanger has a persistent wear and tear feature on lots of the parts which adds another layer of realism to what is already the best chopper for a flight sim. allowing you to virtually check the integrity of the mythical ******* Nut. It is worth noting too that for FS9, FSX and indeed X-Plane, you can get wear and tear and perform maintenance on any aircraft at all if you use them in combination with the wonderful Air Hauler add on.Back on a more forum-specific related bent, PMDG's FSX NG is going to have a lot of similar stuff of that ilk too of course, so it would seem that wear and tear is the de rigueur thing for simulated aircraft these days, which of course brings us back to probably why development times are a bit longer. It's amazing when you think about the fact that people were thrilled to bits just have twelve-sided polygons on their virtual aeroplane fuselages back in FS98, and an FMC was pretty much unheard of unless you bought that EFIS add-on. It's great that we have all that stuff pretty much built in now, but the cost is the time required to produce such funky and cool stuff.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 1, 201115 yr Well if you're into fighter aircraft then Iris Sim just recently released their F-22 and it is quite a stunner. Trey Akins
May 1, 201115 yr Al, which Comet were you mentioning earlier? I really wish more classic jet airliners would be modeled accurately to today's standards. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
