Move from FS9 to FSX...

Featured Replies

My own reasons for preferring FSX are the following:It looks a lot better. The air modeling is superior. This is most noticeable on small planes, and not so much on the heavies. Many of my favorite add-ons are FSX: Tongass X, FTX PNW and PF, RealAir Duke, GEX etc.It looks a lot better.

Lose not thine airspeed, lest the ground rise up and smite thee.

I moved to fsx after an addon uninstaller basically removed my years of work on AI traffic files I pieced together. And haven't looked back. Don't even run FSX with AI traffic yet, it's beautiful now that you can build a computer capable of running with sliders maxed.

Cons:- FPS- missing "Active Camera" feature- having to rebuild everything again- no good AFCAD replacement
FPS is no longer a problem with today's hardware.EZDOK Camera is the one to use now.Rebuilding is a GOOD thing. De-clutter! Your new install will run 10x better without those 27 aircraft addons you never fly.ADE9/X is the Afcad replacement and it's so much better.

My main reason to get FSX would be because of the excellent aircraft addons. FS9 doesn't have the Turbine Duke, Lancair IV-P, most Carenado planes, the accusimmed A2A aircraft, Katana X, and so many more. Yeah there are a couple good ones in FS9 that aren't yet in FSX, but they are very few and far between.Another huge reason is texture resolution. FS9 looks like a blurry mess compared to the high resolution ORBX textures.

I am in the same situation, have already loaded FSX but not satisfied yet as I mostly fly airliners. Is it perfectly OK to load both sims on the same computer? Nothing from one interferes with the other?Jim

Yup. I've got FS9 installed just for the iFly 737. No problems at all.

Thanks!

Ah, someone mentioned FSnav. That was indeed the biggest thing I missed after moving to FSX. Is there still no good alternative? Pressing F9 to check available runways and their corresponding ILS was great when flying older jets.

There are options such as FSCommander and Plan-G, but you can't access them like you would FSNav, it is a case of switching applications - nowhere near as good imho. Does get better if you have a second machine so you can use WideFS to view the GPS / Track .. .. Plan-G over WideFS is great, especially useful in a mountainous area with the terrain mapping on !!G

The winner is in my opinion FSWIDGETS - ELECTRONIC FLIGHT BAG FSX.You can plan or import routes, you having a moving map which can be veiwed over a lan. The software can display a multitude of useful information, such as approach frequencies and can even give the recommended ROD approaching an airport. Development of the software seems very much user driven with many options having been incorporated by the developer at the request of users.Bryan.

HiI have been simming with FS9 for 6 years.I have reached a point where I took the most out of FS9 and have a very stable and developed setup.I am going to buy a new computer this summer. The question is whether I should make the move to FSX at this point in time?Apart from enjoying the new PMDG 737NGX, will I get something better when it comes to visual appearance, landclass, clouds, fps, smoothness, etc...ThanksGhiom
I started flying FSX when it came out but stepped back to FS9 very soon and flown till April 2500 Hrs+ online over Vatsim in Europe with lots of pleasure.Even with the i5/GTX275, FSX was horrible with FSXIn April I took the step up to 2600K/GTX580 and WOW... Now it is possible to reach simmers heaven with FSXI also use 3D Vision and gives a realy new dimension to FS.If you want to see what kind of Eye Candy you can get, watch my video....http://www.youtube.com/user/simbanlHappy landings...

If you are happy with Fs9 keep it.FSX will have less fps. However, with a very fast pc you can also enjoy FSX and then even more than Fs9 ( imho ).The ground textures from Fs9 are 256x256 pixels ; FSX groundtextures are 1024x1024 pixels. That means : 4x as sharp !With a large monitor , multimonitor flying and VFR flying you will see the difference very clearly.Other improved things over Fs9 have already been mentioned in this thread.
