PMDG forum users sure know how to take a topic (like this one) and run a marathon with it. Good grief. LOL

We don't do private forums that are only accessible to people who bought the airplane. It creates a headache for us moderators to do this, but we feel it's important that people have the full picture on what's being said before they purchase.
This is one of the many reasons why PMDG is top notch and should be applauded. They have and will continue to receive my support ($$). Regards,Bob Lyddy

they are limiting their bandwidth to supporting only paying customers. You gotta admitthere is something to that approach.
These forums are hosted by AVSIM, so bandwidth isn't a concern of the company....and hey! Speaking of bandwidth, you're limited to one image in your signature...

Perhaps for support-specific questions, but then again they have the ticket system for that. Whenever I'm thinking of buying an addon one of the first things I do is head over to that vendor's forum to read up on things like ideal settings, necessary tweaks, possible problems and responsiveness of the vendor when someone has a legitimate problem...Taking that into account, an open forum (at least for lurking) would be the way to go & nothing needs changing.

That's the reason you're required to sign your full name. They cross check their purchase database to ensure you're actually a customer.
I understand that for download users. But what about boxed product consumers such as myself? As this is done through a third party (Aerosoft in PMDG's case), if i ask for support how are they to know that i have paid for my copy? (assuming PMDG don't have access to Aerosoft's serial key info, correct me if i'm wrong.)I find the conversation to be alot more civil, and helpful at forums where this structure is in place.

Great point Philip, why I asked this question was in reference to (non paying customers) and I guess the fact that we sign Our names is proof enough :( Regards, Rich

You misunderstand what I mean by bandwidth Kyle, its not some network thing, Imean the TIME it takes to process and support the posting traffic on the forumshere. The fact that they are hosted by AVSIM has no effect on that. I'm a softwareengineer who also has to support his code, often by interacting on various emaillists, its VERY time consuming. Without advocating it I'm simply saying that itsone way to filter or perhaps just prioritize the content you need to process.

And all the er, drama, you get in these forums isn't a headache as is?
When Ryan said "It creates a headache for us moderators to do this" he was referring to the current way they do things.

Hi Joe another good point I did see it but not sure it was exaclty what I was reffering to that being piracy and having free support, not that would happen I would assume if pmdg can build a payware of this caliber they would have no problem protecting it, thanks Joe.,Hi Doug great point also, I for one am not that concerned about early issues I will buy it, for the most part all the companies I have bought addons from they all are very honest and I think do a great job to make Their products better with future fixes and ongoing enhancements. :( Regards, Rich

http://forum.avsim.n...-ngx-sub-forum/Did you even think of searching before you made a new topic? That topic was active as of TODAY!
That topic was discussing the option to have an NGX sub-forum where all the previews, pinned topics, and pre release info from the dev's would be, to make it easier for us to find it instead of having to pick it out from the general forum. We are discussing an exclusive area for those who buy the NGX where support, downloads, and helpful content from other users can be found for those who have paid for the privelege.

I don't understand why a user would be pro-private forum. I've bought other birds, had some problems, gone into the user only forum and then found out that everyone has this problem, and the only solution is to either live with it or some PITA mod or further add-on or work around. In some of these cases, I regret having purchased the software. So, by and large, now I avoid software that doesn't have an open users forum. I understand the piracy concerns and they are real, but an open forum shows a level of confidence in the product that I respect from PMDG, and others.

Bandwidth isn't a concern???? Let's talk about that after PMDG releases the NG.As to this whole question about restricted forums for purchasers etc., sure, AVSIM can provide that. However, the added demand on the admins would be tremendous. That applies here as well as with any other forum software. Someone has to match purchase receipts, numbers, names etc., with requests for access using email addresses etc to verify. Given PMDG's popularity, I would guess that Rob and guys would have to hire a person just to manage their restricted forum access.

In the case where a "licensed users only" forum is provided by the same entity that issues licenses, granting access is typically automated (user enters order email and order number) and obtaining access is a matter of waiting a few moments for a confirmation email.Personally I don't mind restricted access - as long as it is coupled with a refund option. Although it does not always keep out the trolls ...
