July 8, 201114 yr Just out of curiosity, I'd like to pose the following purely hypothetical scenario to PMDG...Suppose someone wanted to contract PMDG to produce an aircraft based on an existing GA plane for their own private use (not to be sold). Supposing this were a very specific model, with certain avionics & such, no other variants except the one specific configuration, and a single paint scheme. (like someone wanting to replicate their own plane/systems exactly as it's configured) For a sense of scale, let's say the Beech G58 with the currently offered glass cockpit and G1000 GPS.I already know the answer is probably a resounding NO!!, but supposing you might actually consider it, what's a ballpark estimate of what you might charge? $10K? $25K? $100K? That's USD, of course... Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
July 9, 201114 yr Commercial Member I don't know, but I'm sure the G1000 alone would increase price 100% :D If you were talking conventional 6-pack with Bendix-King... July 9, 201114 yr Question is for PMDG? But if I were them I would ask 1000 for the exterior model, 2000 for the VC and 2000 for the systems, etc. It's only a GA? So 3 months and you will get it :( Sagga Toure
July 9, 201114 yr A PMDG G1000?! I'd chip in if they did something like that! No G1000 simulation I've tried yet (except for the actual Garmin sim) has ever come close to the capabilities of the real thing. But out of curiosity, why would you want them to make such a specific aircraft model for your own personal use and to never be sold? Although it's just hypothetical, it's a peculiar question to me. July 9, 201114 yr PMDG is a smart company. Why would they bother to develop their own G1000?Other tried and achieved only half-baked results.G1000 software must be pretty enormous. Why can't you team up with Garmin and get 100% real stuff instead? Why reinvent the wheel? Garmin already have their own G1000 simulators - it is simply a matter of hooking it up to an aircraft. But I agree with Ryan - the top hypothetical question is pretty bizarre. July 9, 201114 yr Commercial Member Anyone who thinks we couldn't program a realistic G1000 doesn't know us very well lol.. You know the person who developed the Mustang's version of it (probably the best one done in a consumer-level addon thusfar) works here now right? With the help of the rest of the team here we could definitely do a new one pretty darn close to the full functionality of the real thing. Really the only things missing were VNAV, the on-map cursor control stuff, and the TAWS mode if I recall correctly...As to the original question - if you have a serious inquiry (meaning you actually have a ton of money to spend upfront on such a venture), email us privately - we wouldn't ever post a price for something like that in the forum. It would have to be a VERY good offer for us to put the current roadmap we have on hold though, I know that much haha. July 9, 201114 yr What's the point in not selling it? If it was good enough others would buy it! You'd have a hard time getting PMDG to not sell to others I'd imagine! Rgds - Sam Harridann
July 9, 201114 yr Well whatever price PMDG charged .... the customer would have plenty of time to save up for it !!! Sorry ... couldn't resist that one
July 9, 201114 yr Really the only things missing were VNAV, the on-map cursor control stuff, and the TAWS mode if I recall correctly...Ryan,I wish I could agree. Some key IFR features are missing - all the annunciation on the navigation/status bar is missing. No wonder why - this is the hardest thing to do since it probably involves complicated software and ARINC compatible instrument charts so separate phases of the approach could be recognized. This is specially evident for missed approach legs that require for example maintaining heading rather than a course. It is almost a magic seeing it work on Garmin's own sim. No G1000 sim (apart from Garmin's own) has this stuff. And all this is extremely useful for single pilot IFR time. VNAV is really a small fish comparing to this, not that critical. When I politely enumerated all this missing stuff to the known vendor - I was laughed at and told not to expect anything like that at this price range. Fair enough. The said vendor advertised on their 'coming soon' page that a training-version of G1000 was forthcoming (presumably with some of this stuff and offered at higher price point) but it has long disappeared. July 9, 201114 yr Well, if PMDG suddenly cancels the DASH-8 and the T7, we know now who to blame. Watch out Kenneth! :(
