NGX Manuals-European Delivery

Featured Replies

Hi I'm looking into purchasing manuals for the NGX however i have a concern over the price of the recommended delivery method (FedEx $117-$127). Obviously I want the Captain's or Chief's set but they would be outside my budget at those delivery prices which would probably restrict me to the FCTM/QRH. So my question is... are there any Europeans out there who have bought manuals using the cheaper (USPS) method and had them delivered with or without issue? I've been around this here forum a long time but this is my first post so be gentleAny advice is appreciated as it is quiet a lot of money but worth it in my opinionThanks very muchMartin Woulfe

I suggest you learn how to use the search options. I searched this forum for "manuals USPS" and got quite a few posts on the very topic you are looking into.

I had the Chief Piliot set send to Belgium using USPS and if I remember correctly it took labout two weeks. The tracking information proved to be helpfull and the additional charge of the belgium postal services for the last traject was about 10 euro (if memory serves me right.)Peter Jonckheere

Hi Martin.I had the set of manuals delivered to me in Spain via UPS. It took about two weeks and I was able to track their progress. I incurred no additional costs. They are very in depth and for a novice 53 year old, I am finding them quite hard to get my head around them but with a lot of re-reading, they are starting to come together. There will be a PDF manual released with the NGX so it is up to you whether you want to wait or pay for the very professionally made originals. As suggested earlier by Steven, AoA will be producing a comprehensive video tutorial for the NGX so I am hoping that with the combination of the manuals and video tutorial, I will be able to get a grasp of the poper procedures and flying of the new aircraft.Hope this helps.Gary

For the shipping price you are better off waiting for the PDF's that will come with the software and print them out yourself. The money saved can offset printer costs and still save a packet!

Our systems product goes far beyond FCOM Vol 2 as we also draw from other documentation such as the maintenance manual (AMM), and several other manuals, books and internet resources.Nonetheless the manuals from PMDG/Boeing are a fantastic resource and I recommend them wholeheartedly. I went for the FedEx option as it was the only one available at the time. Shipping was prompt but yes, very expensive.

If I had known that the manuals come as PDFs, I would go with any tablet computer like an iPad and read them on that. I neither had the information nor the iPad at that time, so I went ahead and bought them - since the NG is pretty much the only plane the I will use in FS once it's released. Don't get me wrong, the manuals are nice to have, especially the QRH. But considering the costs... I used USPS to Germany by the way - not too much trouble, fairly quick delivery (about 2-3 weeks?) and no taxes. One benefit of the PDF (this is in no way against PMDG): Boeing has some poor colour choices in some diagrams that translate badly in a black and white print (like blue and red nearly look the same).

I ordered the Captains Set via USPS to Asutria - no Problem at all. Delivery Time ~ 2 Weeks, and about 11€ additional Cost for the last Delivery Segemtn in Austria

Don't forget, you get the Captain's set in PDF form with the aircraft, you could print them out! (do it at work, then it wont cost you anything!! :( )oops, just noticed someone above me already suggested that!

Thanks very much guys for helping me make an informed decision on whether I should spend the big bucks or hold off and work with the pdf manuals along with the AoA offering. Also, at least I know from what's been said here that USPS are reliable in delivering to Europe if I did decide on the printed manuals. Martin Woulfe

I don't know if the PMDG QRH has this, but the digital QRH manuals I have (737NG and 747-400) have quick links on just about every failure. So it's actually easier (and a lot quicker) to open them up on an iPad and tap on what you need, instead of browsing through many pages before arriving at the right one.Of course, the cost of an iPad is a tad bit higher than the cost of the manuals :(

I ordered documentation for both MD11 and NGX last year via USPS to Paris (France), took 2 weeks or so. Please not that PMDG packing was 5 stars. To me, do not hesitate, hope it helps.

The manuals will come with the NGX in pdf format as earlier stated. However the manuals are top notch, high quality prints and comes in robust binders. Shipping cost is expensive to Europe and be advised you might need to pay costums fee also. I used USPS to Denmark and it went smooth. I really enjoy my chief pilot set a lot and I can also recommend them. But if budget is tight, wait for the NGX and take a look at the pdf's and think about it again smile.gif
