I like the look of some wear, too new and i would be afraid to scratch it, kinda like a new car. Hit this wing into the building as i turn too sharp and i am ok with it. Insurance will cover it any way. spilled coffee on my seat np. wax on wax off just like new next flight please...

I'm a little OCD about fingerprints on my monitor. I wonder if we can get an option to swap the fire extinguisher for a bottle of Windex?Clown.gif
+1 The GUNK in the cracks on some of the Ivory knobs, is quite disgusting. I hope 737 pilots wash their hands after takeoff, before meals are served, otherwise I can see regular occurances of announcements :- "If there are any passengers with 737 piloting experience, please can they make themselve know to the Flight Attendants" The latest "Must Have" Addons for the 737 can be found at http://www.discountedlatexgloves.com/

I like the realistic used look. These planes are flown several times everyday by different flight crews, they are not going to look brand new and nobody is going to take the time to wipe everything down.

I really like brand new myself as well. I kinda wonder if Devs assume the preferred appearance is worn/realistic. I'm not so sure it is, especially as you broaden the audience. Maybe diehard realists would prefer worn, but I'm thinking they are a minority. Be useful from a sales point of view to do a poll on that, if sales matter, and I'm pretty sure they do. My guess is that the majority of all buyers will prefer brand spankin' shiney and new over old and worn. Who knows, maybe if enough chime in PMDG might consider a patch for clear/clean glass. A few other vendors do and I appreciate it. Plus, you can't beat choice. Maybe a nice control thru the FMC seteup mode for new glass Idea.gif Noel
I see your point on preference, but your point on the realism of the look is off base. Clearly, you've never been up front, or were in a little of the "oh man, I'm up front" shock that you filtered out the negativity of some of it. If you want pictures, I have them. Airlines don't let planes sit. When they're not flying, they're not making money. The only time they're normally "permitted" to sit is when they cannot physically fly them (maintenance, no market for a 3AM departure, and so on). Furthermore, the cleaning crews generally only grab the trash bags off the deck because most carriers don't want people up there without crew there to make sure nothing gets touched improperly. The result? Only the crews clean, and few of them bother at that.

All I said was that I thought perhaps more of the total audience would prefer squeaky clean and brand new over old and worn, and then politely hinted I would love it if the Dev considered making this a choice. What the heck are you talking about?

Ok, we will ask for Boeing in Renton, Washington to produce more aircraft worn for added realism!this is not a vote, but it is obvious that everything new is better.

... but it is obvious that everything new is better.
Not for me, I prefer the worn-out, dirty look anytime.

In my opinion the level of wear and tear in the NGX is *perfect*, and closely resembles all the 737 cockpits I've seen in real life

I am thinking of the man hours necessary to redo all of the textures to remove the wear and tear elements. Even if all the data were on their own layers, it would still take time to remove the layer and export/convert to the respective dds format. If this is a matter of minutes, well perhaps the developers may consider, if not, I am thinking they have enough on their plate with SP1 and subsequent projects. I for one like the look as it is, reminding me of the general appearance of the few real world ng cockpits I have had the chance to see close up. Andrew

Plus One to that, I have no idea why PMDG focusses so much about creating a filthy dirty cockpit. It might appeal to the 0.001% of people who will use it who are actually NG pilots, but I don't see the commercial sense in doing that personally. The knobs on the pedestal have seen better days, and the dust and finger prints on the displays just get on my nerves. But all that aside the 737 NGX is a fine product. Better add that otherwise this thread will be removed by the thought police.

The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that they posted screenshots of the dirt and gunk, and publicly stated that it wasn't an option, yet you all still bought it. If it's such a big deal, why did you? I don't mean that offensively, but if you're going to argue business sense, they still got your money, despite your apparent objection to it, knowing full well it was there. Why bother changing it if those so outspoken got it anyway? Again, no offense is meant by that.I guess I'm part of the 0.001%.Partially because I've been on the decks enough to know they are nowhere near clean, and that plastic-looking effect of "new" in the other payware models definitely isn't "as real as it gets," which is what PMDG stives for - again, publicly.

yup im part of the 0.001. Btw did you know 99% of statistics are made up? The dirty look is more realistic. This thread needs to be locked.

If it is not IFR conditions it is not fun.
