November 16, 201114 yr Author Is the NDB part of your active route ?If it is, your new waypoint should be 10 miles before it and also on the magenta line. ( Alongtrack Waypoint )Maybe you are trying to get a Place-bearing/Distance waypoint ?? Fred. Frederic Steiner.
November 16, 201114 yr This has been an excellent thread. Thanks Fred for the great tips. A tutorials topic would be a great addition to the NGX forum "To most the sky is the limit but to me it's home" Rick Harms (CYVR) i7 [email protected] (for now) asus p6t v2, 6gb ocz 1600 CL7 ram. BFG 285 oc, vista 64, Samsung 52" 1080p lcd track IR5. PMDG j41, 747-400x, 747-8i/f, NGX.......Finally!!!!
November 16, 201114 yr I know that the NGX has a couple of problems regarding this, but in the real bird couldn´t you simply create an along-track waypoint 30nm after the present position fix you just inserted by entering "/30" after lineselecting it?Yes, but in this case it should be on the same track you already are flying! I've mentioned Bearing/Distance from the ppos fix if ATC told you to maintain a CERTAIN heading for X miles, which is a common request from them!Regards ___________________________________________________ Rafael Henrique Carelli
November 16, 201114 yr Very handy! Thanks for the heads-up for the thousandth time Rafael! Cheers,Victor M. Lima
November 16, 201114 yr Great thread. But how do i create fixes for a self- positioning for say an ils approach. I know how to create the final fix in the app/dep page. But if atc starts to vector me away how do i create a fix for a base leg turn to 10mile final for an ils. Are there any techniques. Thanksluke

November 16, 201114 yr Is the NDB part of your active route ?Maybe you are trying to get a Place-bearing/Distance waypoint ??Fred.1 Yes its chosen as the active NDB approach.2 I don't know......I'll be happy with anything that works as an waypoint, I'm just trying to get the NDB app. to work so I can fly it in Lnav/Vnav as per app. chart. Kind regardsR.G
November 16, 201114 yr Author 1 Yes its chosen as the active NDB approach.2 I don't know......I'll be happy with anything that works as an waypoint, I'm just trying to get the NDB app. to work so I can fly it in Lnav/Vnav as per app. chart. You could enter the NDB waypoint (OU1NB) in the FIX page and enter /10 in the line underneath to get a green circle 10 miles from the NDB.You could even enter a radial before the /10 if you wish.( In the RW you could then line select this to the scratchpad and enter it on the legs page as a waypoint )( This does not work in the NGX..........................................Yet. )Fred. Frederic Steiner.
November 16, 201114 yr Thanx FredBut does it work for you in the PMDG NGX to create ex. OU1NB/-10 or any NDB xxxx/-10 & you get the correct result? If so..... then maybe something is wrong with mine fms & I should try an reinstall. Kind regardsR.G

(eg......ABC/-15)Then up-select it on top of the waypoint I created it from. For positive values I have to upselect to the next waypoint for it to work properly.I would love to see this fixed in the next SP.Fred. November 17, 201114 yr Author I will finish off this "waypoint tutorial" with an example of how to.........avoid bad weather or maybe even a UFO. I am on a heading of 149 to OED when ATC tells me to change heading to 126 to avoid bad weather. ( see pic 1 )They want me to fly to LKV but the direct heading would be 129 which would still not avoid the weather. ( see pic 2 )After changing my heading to 126, I then enter LKV in the scratchpad and upselect it on top of OED.** Notice the INTC CRS prompt at lsk6R ! **ATC instructs me to intercept the 350 radial to LKV, so I enter the reciprical heading of 170 at that prompt. ( see pic 3 )(170 is the inbound heading to LKV.)To finish I copy RBL to the scratchpad and upselect it to the empty boxes. ( closing the discontinuity )I then execute the modification. That's it..............bad weather bypassed. ( see pics 4 & 5 )(I hope this last part of the tutorial will inspire a bit of experimenting with your routes.)Fred. Frederic Steiner.
November 17, 201114 yr INTC CRS is also great when being vectored to final, particularly if you have been taken off a complex STAR with lots of waypoints.Upselect the IAF (or FAF, or other intermediate fix, depending on the situation) and put the final approach course into INTC CRS.This removes all of the clutter from the STAR. Additionally, VNAV will give you an idea of how high on profile you would be if ATC decided to turn you onto base and final from your current position. November 20, 201114 yr Thanks Fred for these great tutorials. Did print all them and they are at my NGX folder for easy access. Thanks!Allow me a question. Today I was trying something that probably is not possible but don´t understand why.I created a lat/long waypoint and after inserting it into my route, I needed to have an along track waypoint at 5 my from my previously created lat/long waypoint. It seems that it is not possible (I got an error). Could you please confirm?Thank you Edmundo Azevedo
November 20, 201114 yr Author Hi Edmundo !Yes, this is possible but does not work yet in the NGX.I'm glad you liked the tutorial.Fred. Frederic Steiner.
