Looks better at night than at day...

I remember seeing that first pic sometime last year or earlier this year and thought it looked amazing, almost real at a glance.I agree that I have always though that night was typically the worst looking time of day in FSX or FS9. Granted it looks much better with UTX night lights if you choose to use them, as well as some photoreal packages like MegaScenerySoCal or ORBX that have better looking night textures than GEX offers, as well ORBX has some street lights. Still, even with those sceneries installed, night still leaves a lot to be desired in FSX.I will say, I have never used X-Plane and frankly never have even considered using it, but, if PMDG, LDS, FSDT, FlyTampa, and all my other favorite developers ever get onboard and develope for it, I would consider giving it a try. The only problem is that I see those developers probably supporting P3D before they would support X-Plane.

I Agree,We only want 3D LIGHTS.

Ok......Let's not lose sight of the fact that we really have not seen any Flight night screens yet ........particularly at an airport. Also I assume that X-Pline now uses DX10 as will Flight which makes the lighting seem more realistic. The Flight screens we have seen at dusk actually look very good and promising particularly considering it's still a work in progress. Yes, Flight wiil use certain aspects of FSX as they can be used in Flght because it wiil serve Flight well. "You don't throw out the baby with the bath water" comes to mind. There is no point in starting from scratch simply to do so. However, one must realize that Flight wiil be a new sim, particully in regards to the lightling. .smile.png

I'm going to try both, Flight and XP10. I have XP 9 now, always put it on my system after a rebuild but it just doesn't get nearly the usage that FS9 and FSX get. I like both the heavy iron and GA, and although XP9 GA looks pretty good, there is nothing to really fly in the heavy type stuff, ie PMDG level. If I'm not mistaken, X-plane is Open GL, not Direct X?? Correct me if I'm wrong :) but I can't see Austin using it, he's a MAC guy :)

The September Fight update has two night shots albeit still in development.

Yes, but it is too close to be able to compare it to the X=Plane screen. Like I said, going to DX10 from DX9 can made a world of difference with lighting.Just look at the new lighting effects in the dusk and daytime shots. :(

ORBX Anacortes Airport at night..... Looks better than Xplane 10 IMHO.

Where did you find a screen shot of X-Plane 10 Anacortes Airport at night so we can compare it with the Orbx one?

Well that looks fantastic... I'm sure many developers, just like us, are working on X-Plane capable products. I personally have tried each recent major version of X-Plane (as a user!), and it has certainly been coming a long way... very impressive indeed. I do wish the flight model response to controls would receive some attention, I understand the developer strongly believes that there is no way to improve it and changing it would be wrong, but for me it lacks the feel and response that I enjoy in just about any other sim. Granted I have less than 1000 hours and only flown a few dozen aircraft types, so I probably am not qualified to rate it, but it just doesn't feel right to me? If this would receive attention, for those who desire an alternate "feel" like me, it might really speed up the adoption? Many of my friends and colleagues share this opinion, so I know it isn't just me! Of course, several default aircraft with full VCs is also important but I imagine those things are getting attention... Looks like nothing but good things from X-Plane! As well, the competition between X-Plane 10 and Flight should really benefit all of us in the end.

Hello FolksDon't take this the wrong way (i am only kidding)\but I hope that the latest version of X-Plane is a duffer. Why? If it gets rave reviews and everybody is buying it I would probably have to follow suit. And here I get very afraid. What I like about Msoft FS series is the keyboard layout has basically remained the same. I consider myself to be akin to those virtuoso musicians who play with such breathtaking ease ,each sim session I know every keyboard place ,every short-cut ,all programmed joystick buttons come to hand with-out thought ,even in the gathering darkness of approaching Autumn (although I do allow myself the luxury of a glow in the dark keyboard) in short, each session of sim is a masterful performance (my actual landings now THAT'S another matter Whistle.gif ) of keyboard/joystick dexterity. The thought of having to re-learn all new keyboard commands for another sim is to horrible to contemplate .So next version of X-Plane please be a duffer.biggrin.png
