Microsoft FLIGHT in the wrong direction?

What's funny is that I wasn't even responding to him, but to speedbird2001.
Yes I know. I agree Speedbird gets it. He posted a very plausible and logical point. I also think that Flights Hawaii is an enhanced part of the world, like St. Maarten is in FSX. My previous remark was directed at Ytzpilot, who doesn't seem to get it, or doesn't want to.

My guess?MS Flight will be released with the entire world, but only Hawaii will be a super detailed region. You will need to purchase upgrades from the online store to make other regions as visually attractive.....as and when they become available. I would expect the terrain mesh and textures of the rest of the world to be of the same quality as Hawaii out of the box, but not the level of 3D object detail.

My guess: Flight will be pretty much like FSX, only prettier and more up to date with current technology.Microsoft allready have an extensive library of custom 3D models avilable for New York, Paris, London, St. Marteen, Seattle, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Cairo etc. I'm sure all of these won't go to waste and that there will be areas showcased in great detail in Flight outside of Hawaii. The real question is if Microsoft aim at taking a piece of the addon market and make us pay for upgrades of the stock scenery, additional aircraft etc.

None of know what Microsoft intends. In the past Microsoft only sold Flight Simulator and left selling add-ons to others. It's plausible that Microsoft took a look at that scenario and decided that it wanted to increase its future revenue by selling add-ons itself through its on-line store. In my opinion, nothing Microsoft has written, either on its Flight site or in its job advertisements, rules out that scenario.

Although in the time of FS5 and FS5.1 Microsoft released addons themselves. I remember scenery packages for Paris, New York and yes, Hawaii! LOL.gif

Not in detail of course, but Microsoft has stated the following: The new “Microsoft Flight” retains the full fidelity simulation longtime fans have come to expect while offering all players a whole new look and feel, a wide range of new game play and challenges, persistent experiences and social connectivity. It is about time that they offer something new and I applaud it. A career mode, a flight school and scenery creation tools would be most welcome. For "professional" users there is always Prepar3D.

If MS decide to release their own add-ons I hope they don't lock out third parties, main reason being that with a whole world to cover + aircraft + weather enhancements + nav aids + etc. and only one small team of devs trying to do it all, we will be waiting a long time for each piece to be delivered. This also wouldn't be feasible unless they build the platform for a much longer lifetime than previous generations. The more you think about it the less likely it seems. The idea of them sitting back and taking a piece of the pie by letting 3PD's sell through their portal makes a lot more sense.

Definitions of retains are:- continue to have- not abolish or alterThat would be satisfied by retaining the features of FSX unchanged with game play and challenges, persistent experiences and social connectivity added.Read what Microsoft actually said: not what it wants you to believe it said.

I know perfectly well what retains mean. Reading that "continue to have full fidelity" means "unchanged from FSX" in this context is a belief you hold, and please don't project that on me.

It's not a question of belief or of projecting anything on to anyone. It's merely a matter of appreciating what Microsoft has actually written. Yhe words will have been carefully chosen by the marketing department.Anyway continue has similar meaning to retain- remain in existence or operation- remain in a specified position or stateNeither word implies, improve, enhance, extend etc

They wrote about retaining fidelity, not retaining FSX, so I still struggle to see your point?

Microsoft can, by definition, only retain something that exists. It's marketing department would no doubt claim FSX is a "full fidelity simulation" , in the same way as it claimed FS9 was "as real as it gets".They're both examples of advertising puffery and are meaningless. My point is that we should understand actuallywhat Microsoft says - not what we'd like it to have said or what Microsoft would like us to bwelieve it said.

I'm telling you that Flight will get a run for his money...
Excellent. Nothing like a competitor to keep Microsoft on their toes. If Flight turns out as some hope then Flight may well be deemed to be either better or else a wothy alternative.

Give people power to really test their personality.

It's just not that impressive alain... I try to get excited about X-plane but it just looks terrible (only my opinion!!). The exception being the night lighting which looks simply amazing!
