Terrain ND problem

Featured Replies

Hi folks,Since HF4 I noticed this strange behaviour of the terrain radar once before over the channel.I flew from EHEH to EGSS. The route was quiet short: REFSO UL980 XAMAN P49 IDESI.The picture #1 shows a complet green. The ND range was set to 40. The plane is 8.8 before REFSO.The picture #2 was taken some seconds later. The ND range was set to 80 and the green was gone. The picture #3 shows the same position with the ND on range 20. Works fine. But as soon as I changed the range to 40 again everything turned green. The picture #4 shows the ND set to range 40 shortly before the fix IDESI. As you can see the green disapered. But the problem isn't gone at all. The picture #5 shows the ND range 20 in green again. The first time I noticed this was with HF4 (pics were taken with SP1), also above the channel between France and England.Hopfully this problem can be solved.Jonathan Huschle

The option was deactivated on that flight.

Have the same things (show water in cyan (that is blue not green) not selected). After SP1 yesterday I had the pattern displayed for a minute. Range was set at 10NM, turning off then ON the terrain did not solved, then I tried to climb and the green disappeared.

I get this too on the tutorial flight when heading over the sea. Any fix on this yet?

I get this too, flying over open water, when terrain altitude shows 0.0, it show's for a few second and then it went away again. It doesn't matter if i set show water in cyan or not...

I have noticed the same thing. I went straight from HF3 to the service pack and it only appeared after I installed the service pack. As I understand it HF4 was a sort of beta release of the service pack and your observation in my view backs it up.

Looking into this - it's nothing we've ever seen ourselves though - I just flew a bunch over water and couldn't replicate it. Is there a totally reproducible situation where this always occurs for any of you?

I flew several times over the channel and it happened nearly always. But only at a little range setting like 10NM, and only on the captains ND.

Allways happens here, i have a testflight, PANC-KSEA, over open water it happens, yes, when terrain alt show 0, it's all green displays for a few second. Even on FO's side...

Yup. Its a fairly commom since SP1 but seems to be random. I will see if one of my saved flights produces it consistently.

Apart from this apparent issue, I normally only activate the Terrain display when climbing out of or descending into mountainous areas. When on cruise altitude wouldn't it be a common procedure to turn off the Terrain display?Don't know how real pilots handle this but it doesn't sound logical to keep Terrain on while on cruise.

i get this if only if i set the range to 5 if i set it higher it goes away to normal

The problem appears when terrain disappears, on my system seems to be always at the same time,fsx2011120210572002.jpgfsx2011120210582411.jpgI saved a flight when descending in a test flight, used chrono to check times when reloading the flight. The plane was flying going from mountains to sea, the 2 range selector are set differently, so the problem occurs firstly on the lower settings (as the ground disappears first from the screen)In my flight the problem appears at minute 3 (and few seconds) and minute 4 (and few seconds) of aircraft CPT chrono.Pmdg, do you want the saved flight? May I send a ticket or what?
