April 21, 201214 yr I think we have to understand that FSX is an ancient sim, that Microsoft bolted new bits to. It's bursting at the seams already, the last thing we need are demands for more and more effects. Demanding more, for example ice and rain in the PMDG JS41, resulted in graphical artifacts for many. I say be grateful for what you have. I don't miss rain in the least, and prefer the better frame rate. P.S. I believe the HUGS is in common use with many NG's.
April 22, 201214 yr NGX can do CAT III without the HUD. The reason my airline selected the HUD is because it is way cheaper and easier to keep the plane certified for HUD CAT III than CAT III autoland. Tom Landry
April 22, 201214 yr I'm pretty sure when you "disable" a feature via the CDU, you're just moving it of of view (eg the in A2A cub, when you turn Hedi off she just goes into the tail of the plane.) If this is true, then you couldn't have the option of turning VC rain on and disabling the HUD without closing FSX and switching the model. The issue is they have exhausted the limit of animations in the VC. So PMDG would either have to remove a feature entirely or have a model switching program outside of FSX
April 23, 201214 yr Rain would be nice, but I ain't giving up the HGS... lol.. I'm too spoiled using that thing, and use it on every flight, takeoffs and landings.. But maybe being a pseudo Southwest pilot has a lot to do with that.. They use them that way in the real world.. I think SWA started using the HGS in 1999, or thereabouts.. And naturally, I have my 600 BBJ equipped with it too.. I think that thing is about the best thing since sliced bread.. Makes landings so easy.. And good for tail strike avoidance on takeoffs. The vector cues are handy flying out, but I tend to prefer the flight director I think, as the single cue gives me more of a visible bank indication.. But I watch both. Once I get on my way, I flip it up out of the way until I'm on approach for the landing. Mark Keith

That's why it won't happen sadly! Rgds - Sam Harridann
April 23, 201214 yr the HUGS is an optional extra which is rarely fitted by the airlines, and chances are most real world 737NG pilots will never see a HUGS in their careers. Lots of NG's have it because like people said above me, it's cheaper to keep certified for CATIII landings and Just about all the NG's I've been aboard have had HUGS installed. -Ryan Vince Quote from 911 magazine: "- ...RSR delivers unparallelled performance and stunning looks"
April 23, 201214 yr Read this quote from Ryan, He wrote it in another topic EXACTLY like this one, about the rain effects: This doesn't work like you guys think it does. Every animation on a model is always there regardless of whether the option is active or not - it's cumulative. When you turn the HGS off in the NGX for example, the animations are still taken up despite it not being visible (in fact the very thing that hides it is another animation itself.) We're not going to remove actual cockpit functionality in exchange for a cosmetic raindrop effect. (actually multiple raindrop effects - you need separate routines depending on speed) If it comes down to that type of decision we're always going to go with things in the cockpit that affect the use of the airplane. Doing what you're talking about requires a ton of different models that would have to be switched out before running the sim, code changes to support the disabled parts etc - we're not going there. Summarizing: no rain effect on VC. And use the search function. In fact, that topic in which Ryan posted is still going on. Matheus Mafra
April 23, 201214 yr Commercial Member Yeah, I was about to say, it's a lot more complex than everyone's making it out to be. So: I have to replace the belt in my car. Any takers? It's just one little belt after all! It's simple. Swap the one belt with the new one! Kyle Rodgers
April 6, 201412 yr The default 737 have a nice raineffect on windows.. that for the Pmdg .. very nice.
