Timeline for the X Factor

Prior to the release of X-10 the Village was happy and overjoyed, with high hopes flying bliss will soon be had. The happy day suddenly appeared like a rainbow arching across the sky after a cold and dark rainstorm. The arrival of the beloved X-10 was greeted with mixed emotion as few villagers quickly snatched up the first copies and gave it a whirl. The reviews and chit chat about X-10 soon filled the village and the local taverns abounded with stories good and bad. Soon rumors and heated debates caused strife and woe as fights broke out near and abroad. In a small village, one such tavern, was suffering from a well endowed debate roaring into the night. The elder, a wise old man, stood up in the mist of the usual brawl, and shouted for silence. A calm overcame the group, and in a mild, calm voice asked, My brethren, the timeline for the 3rd party scenery development, airports and cities, how long before major landmasses are revamped? Well enough of the campy story, and getting serious. The X-10 makeover was talked about, such as getting groups to modify this and that. Hoping Areosoft of some big player jump in and start selling or giving freeware such as modified airports etc. The core of X-10 appears fantastic, as this video clearly shows some very nice features. http://www.youtube.c...d&v=rfdqiZJZVb0 Aerosoft appears to have interest with X-10 Europe, Orbx a no go, and the community development slow due to the lack of man power, time and life in general. So, how long do you guys think it will take for X-10 to be "Orbx Like" ? When this occurs the village will rejoice and dance with joy. I was thinking, 1 or 2 years but looking at it from a world development perspective, sigh... me thinks longer. I would pay $60-70 for an X-10 PMW and Northern Rockies and $40.00 per additional airport. That is nice to say, but who is going to do this? I stated in prior posts X-10 is a golden business opportunity for 3rd party devolopers. Not much of a buzz from the big boys venturing into those waters other than Aerosoft picking the Europien ball and running with it. Please correct me if I am in am wrong, and I hope I am correct in saying within 2 years X-10 will really be what we want it to be. To clarify, be visually equal to Orbx scenery. For $80.00 X-10 is a fantastic deal. But, my greatest weakness is a gross impatience and severe addiction to eye candy regardless of how glorious the clouds, night lighting and other wonderful aperitif X-10 is endowed with. I should of went to work this morning, as the time spent on this post could have earned me enough funds to buy X-10 and start enjoying it. Time for lunch. Keep well my fellow fliers. I thank you for any comments in advance.

Hoping someone has some new information as to other 3rd party developers jumping onto the party bus. Hopefully some will make some bush type camps / scenery for helicopters. Looking forwards to getting X-10 soon, some payware helicopters and add on's. 2012 will be a good year for flying.

Not meaning this in a negative way, but what makes you think the CURRENTLY established x plane developers aren't capable of making payware aircraft and scenery as good as, or better than current FSX developers.I've seen scenery and aircraft that would rival many top level FSX developers. By all means, they are more than welcome to add X Plane to their current workload, but X Plane already has very high quality products. I'll be more than happy to provide links.

Please do-I've bought lots for xplane 9 and so far not found them in the same quality. In fact the Carenado f33 as nice as it is in xplane does not have the visuals it does in fsx-though I love the fm.I look forward to taking an objective view on your links-if I have not bought them already...I've also found most are not working with xplane 10 including your work which makes it hard to evaluate.I get a message when I try to load your plane that the acf is incompatible and then somehow the acf is eaten requiring a reinstall...

Goran, coverage must be a big issue. Sure, I don't see why existing xplane developers could not do something equally as nice but the FSX developers already have large libraries that would require less work to port over. Those large libraries cover a lot of ground with good detail. Alas some have already said that they wont and it that must just come down to perceived lack of profit to do it right now. If they don't think the numbers stack up then I am not sure how quickly another developer could start from further behind and develop something that will be as good. Surely the xplane payware people have to make a business case as well. This is just based on an assumption that orbx as an example has a correct handle on effort vs profit.

Can easily match up to, if not exceed MegaScenery's Hawaii. I don't have his other scenery, but going from the screenshots, I'd say they can match up to top level FSX payware quality.Keeping in mind, people animations haven't been done yet, like OrbX. But it is being looked into.
Thanks Cameron-I guess I'll read into this-but isn't there a better way to get the message to people that have purchased this product ?..and I downloaded a bunch of xp9 scenery yesterday and none of it worked fyi...

Yes, and no, Geof. Right now we're assessing some things. X-Plane 10 is up and down in beta stages, and Laminar has sent us a directive to refrain from pushing our changes/updates, etc because they are fine tuning for the moment. In the meantime, you'll find us proactively informing you as you've just seen now.I'm quite surprised you choose to speak aloud on the forums rather than ever seek support from the right source, however.

What is the right source-I am not clairvoyent?I am surprised that I learn of the solution only thru a post here-since my email was provided when I puchased the product.

Geof, as someone with smarts like yourself, I'm sure you know how to use a contact form on the website you made a purchase from to get support, right? Surely you didn't think Avsim was the spot to try first?I've already made mention as to why you have not received an e-mail. Let's not make this hard. You have a solution where the vendor went out of his way to find your topic and help you out when you could have approached the vendor and made mention to get help sooner. Laminar is changing things vastly. What works today may not work tomorrow, and until things are actually solidified you won't see much from us. More on this directive from Laminar can be seen on their blog. Over and out on this one, Geof. Not here to argue with you about something so simple.

This isn't directed at you guys as I don't know who you are but seems like you are a developer. I almost always go to forums for support when I need it as my past experiences with product support for almost anything has been a lot worse and a lot slower than talking to someone on a forum who knows what you mean. PS, given I have recently been reading that a lot of people cant get LR to reply to emails I wonder which is the best method to pursue with any xplane glitches right now?

Fair point, Jason. We have forums dedicated to these very products, and not at Avsim. You can find them here: http://www.x-pilot.com The link I provided Geof was in fact on that very forum.

Unfortunately I can't help you there, but I do speak with Laminar on a daily basis. Their inboxes are filled with multiple reports of the same bug. If you need support and don't have a bug report, you may want to try their facebook page. If you're looking for further peer help, you can also try the community forums at the org or on X-Pilot. Plenty of people willing to help there!
