December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member Nebraska, Ohio, Florida, kcle, klnk, koff, koma,Wyoming. I also downloaded Simons Mariposa and St. Thomas. All give an error message when starting the sim-then all but St. Thomas and koma crash the sim. These are all freeware by the way.Hi, Geof,This could be related to a few things. I don't have all of the scenery packs you listed, but my guess would be:1. Some weird issues going on with normals. If this is the case, it would be listed in your log.txt file located in your main X-Plane folder.2. Crashing the sim sounds a lot like an error I've seen with v9 road data. This started appearing a couple of beta's ago, and is fixed for the next build. I believe this will be released by Laminar sometime in the next 1-3 days.If you're interested in posting your log.txt file I'm sure we could dive in a bit further. Founder of X-Aviation

December 12, 201114 yr Eric,You are too funny. You made 3 posts, they made 2 and you DID NOT get a run around.
December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member Next beta is tomorrow...It may or may not be. I work with Laminar on a daily basis, and have many phone calls going back and forth on testing new builds before they are released. As I said, 1-3 days. Tomorrow would be one. We're doing some FPS testing (with either shell of .bat scripts depending on your system) on larger monitors which will then go public with the next build to help optimize performance. December 12, 201114 yr Eric,What run-around was that? Just so we're fair here and everyone can assess this for themselves: http://forums.x-pilo...i-install-oahu/We received your e-mail. We replied to your e-mail. You appeared to have gotten the answer you were looking for, and when you ran into another snag and contacted us by e-mail today, you received a reply to that very e-mail with the answer you were looking for within the hour (39 minutes to be exact). It took you a day to reply to first email, which if fine. It took you a couple of minutes to reply to my post in your help forum. What I don't understand is why you coudn't just tell me how to install the Oahu Scenery in the forum instead of making me wait a whole day ?And then when I posted same question at the Real Scenery forum I felt like you were giving me the run around. http://forums.x-pilo...opic/827-socal/. The only reason I posted the same question again was because the developer answered another random question I posted earlier, so I figured he might be able to answer my question alot sooner. Anyways, some instructions with the download might help others in the future !And its not X-Plane 10 compatible yet either if there is a bug with XPX.Eric,You are too funny. You made 3 posts, they made 2 and you DID NOT get a run around.LOL.... AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11. Eric Escobar

What I don't understand is why you coudn't just tell me how to install the Oahu Scenery in the forum instead of making me wait a whole day ?Purely coincidental on the timing. Explanations were provided as to why, whether you agree with them or not is not something I will debate! Everyone's systems are different, and by the time you had written in multiple times and with your postings on the forum, circumstances had changed for the direction of support and advice I was going to provide. We answer questions in the order received. It just so happened that your request came in at a time when we were dividing time between support and shipping out a ton of X-Plane 10 orders. And then when I posted same question at the Real Scenery forum I felt like you were giving me the run around. http://forums.x-pilo...opic/827-socal/. The only reason I posted the same question again was because the developer answered another random question I posted earlier, so I figured he might be able to answer my question alot sooner.Giving you the runaround would have been not providing you support at all (my opinion, of course). You received support and answers. Anyways, some instructions with the download might help others in the future !I won't go into this in depth, however, you happened to download and order at a time when we were prepping the new scenery download system (file format changes). The previous version included a manual and installer. The new version is the one you downloaded, sans the installer, which is available during checkout now (you got to the checkout just slightly quicker than I got things back and re-instated) and walks you through the process step by step. It even installs the scenery FOR YOU. This was one of the reasons I had you contact me (that developer you were trying to get the attention of would have just told you to contact me), but you had already started dabbling around and unzipped files. No sense in making you re-download something if the answer you need is just where to place them. Sorry abou that. I know it was an inconvenience. And its not X-Plane 10 compatible yet either if there is a bug with XPX.It hasn't always been that way. Nor will it be. This is the risk you take with beta software (or what Laminar classifies as such). Founder of X-Aviation
December 12, 201114 yr I wasn't told anywhere I was buying anywhere beta software.I was told I was buying xplane 10 plus $10 shipping.Does this seem reasonable?I've been a beta tester on pro pilot 98 and 99, entire fly series, and fs since fs2002.To be honest I don't want to do it anymore..at least I'd like to be informed. December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member I wasn't told anywhere I was buying anywhere beta software.I was told I was buying xplane 10 plus $10 shipping. Are you bitter about it though, Geof? Perhaps I get the wrong vibe here, but if you are, maybe you should take that up with Laminar and ask for your money back?Does this seem reasonable? No and yes. Subjective I guess. No, because if you're a new person to the X-Plane scene and buy into X-Plane only to find out it's a beta and you want nothing to do with it, then I think you have valid concern for refund.Yes, because I view you as someone who has been around the X-Plane track a time or two, Geof. You know perfectly well how it works and has worked for quite some time, and there's never been any indication the update process was about to change. If for some reason you thought it was going to and it was something that bugged you dearly in the version 9 run, then I think as a consumer you should have consulted with Laminar about this prior to giving them your hard earned cash. I've been a beta tester on pro pilot 98 and 99, entire fly series, and fs since fs2002.To be honest I don't want to do it anynore..at least I'd like to be informed.Man, blast from the past. I remember all of these! Fly! was a group of great people. I miss Richard Harvey as a contributor and friend very much! He was a true class act and inspiration. Founder of X-Aviation
December 12, 201114 yr It hasn't always been that way. Nor will it be. This is the risk you take with beta software (or what Laminar classifies as such). I only quote this because I have brought it up a few times as I know it is going to bite people in the asses. The people who dont read this forum but see adverts through magazine and push advertising like emails received from businesses they have supported in the past. http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=80 Nowhere does it say here or on any website selling xplane that this is a beta therefore I don't think anyone selling it can say something like thats the risk you take with this kind of software. As you are in charge of the webiste you could be the first to update it with the prominent 'beta' which shows buyer beware.
December 12, 201114 yr Not bitter about anything. Look at your posts.I am frankly disgusted-and I hate to use that word Ps. search the avsim library on xplane-I've been contributing to xplane for years-perhaps longer than you have been around. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member perhaps longer than you have been around.I doubt it, but it really doesn't matter. Especially not with X-Plane 10 and what it does. You've got a lot of time under your belt with sims, Geof, so I'm not going to dispute your knowledge. I'm not sure how contributions became a part of this discussion, but I've made plenty in my time as well. Founding X-Plane Freeware Project and its associated freeware items being the bigger of them.Nowhere does it say here or on any website selling xplane that this is a beta therefore I don't think anyone selling it can say something like thats the risk you take with this kind of software. As you are in charge of the webiste you could be the first to update it with the prominent 'beta' which shows buyer beware.Valid point! December 12, 201114 yr I think your words speak for themselves-and it is a sad day for xplane..which frankly I have been doing my best to hype-because I think it is great! Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 12, 201114 yr CameronB, perhaps you should clarify what exactly is your relationship, arrangement or agreement is with Laminar and people associated with Laminar.
December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member CameronB, perhaps you should clarify what exactly is your relationship, arrangement or agreement is with Laminar and people associated with Laminar.Hi, m_av,I work with Laminar. Unless you can point out a valid reason as to why I should divulge more and how it changes things, there's no reason to clarify much beyond that. Founder of X-Aviation
